Will George Wilson be benched for Searcy?
ajzepp replied to ny33's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Brooks and Gilmore will be our starting CBs for years to come...he can't get back on the field fast enough. -
I just think it's funny how it wasn't that long ago that almost everyone - traditionalists and progressives alike - were calling the addition of the wild card format the greatest change to baseball perhaps ever. it was great having more at stake for teams to play for as the regular season wrapped up. I was totally on board with that and I loved the new format....but if it was so great, why did they have to go and screw with it? MLB seems to shoot themselves in the foot time and time again. It's pretty clear that this new format has nowhere near the almost universal acceptance that the previous change to the format had. People are very divided on this change, and rightfully so. Like Chef said, it was fine the way it was...they should have let it be.

Good point...we probably should completely discount his view.

Braves didn't deserve it last year....

I guess the dog smelled something fishy going on?

Felix Baumgartner Space Jump **Sunday 10/14 @0800 EST (live feed)
ajzepp replied to ajzepp's topic in Off the Wall Archives
no doubt....I heard earlier that they got the poor guy up at 2am to try and prepare for a 7am jump....so he's been in that suit all day just waiting. I saw some video of his test jump and even that was riveting....that was only like half the distance of what he's doing this time! I may even be more excited about this than I was the Mars Rover landing, and that was pretty damn exciting. -
I'm with Chipper Jones...when asked what he thought about the new format, he replied, "it's stupid."

That feed was beautiful, wasn't it? Fantastic quality. Im off today, so was super excited when I saw he was jumping...I'm really bummed. Hopefully the video of the actual jump when he gets it done will be very impressive. -

Bummer -
I didn't see anyone else post this, so feel free to delete if duplicate. I remember seeing this guy's test jump earlier in the year, but today he's ascending to 120k feet into the atmosphere and freefalling from the edge of space back to the earth. Below are the links to the mission description and also the live feed information. Looks like it's been delayed until 130pm EST. http://www.redbullst...is-the-mission/ http://www.redbullst...to-watch-live!/ http://www.youtube.com/redbull

I'm so sick of this nonsense about not having players to fit some scheme....we've been hearing this since Greggo was here. What we need is a DC with a brain. Mike Nolan came here to ATL and took a defense with average talent - and one that got slightly worse from the previous year in terms of said talent - and has them playing like champions. We have plenty of talent on defense....the problem is we have an overrated DC who is only here because he is doing a favor for Chan, who can't make adjustments, and has somehow caused our already poorly ranked defense to perform even worse. This is ridiculous....find someone who has some fire in their belly and some firing synapses in their noggin, and someone who can put the talent we have in position to make some damn plays. There is PLENTY of talent here to work with....if Wanny can't get it done, show his ass the door.

100% with you on the disabilities thing....I not only love that AR gives them the opportunity to compete, but I love how often they take the opportunity and just run with it. Same holds true for some of the senior racers that have been on the show....I love seeing the diversity among the contestants and I will almost always be quietly encouraging them as i watch them on the screen. Some of these tasks are grueling, and seeing the competitive spirit come out is really a thing to see. That's partly whey I get so perturbed when the whole "ugly American" attitude starts to creep in with some of them....as I've said before, even though I'd love to win that much money, in this case the journey TRULY would be the reward for me. I don't expect them to stop and smell the roses while they're racing around the world, but at the very least, be mindful of the tremendous opportunity you have and don't allow petty crap to ruin the experience for you or others. This probably the one reality show where I really don't care if there is any drama. It does get interesting when you have a new relationship that is being put to the test by the race, but for me the greatest appeal of the show is living vicariously through the participants and they travel to places and experience things I never will. So glad this show is back, and I hope it's got many years of life left in it.

Eric Mangini Can Turn This Defense Around
ajzepp replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My first choice is Marty, my 2nd choice is Perry. I wish we had just given him the job when he was here. -
I happen to think TJax is the better QB anyway, but Id like to see them sit Fitz just to get the teams attention. And Wanny can take his "Defense is simple" crap and fuggoff.
-
If they had the very same common opponents over that 162 game schedule, I could better understand the hard line position that the diviison champ was the better team. Especially with inter-league play, though, that's not going to happen. There is already an advantage inherent in the regular season schedule, and somehow that has to even out.
-
That happens out of necessity, it's not structured that way. That's like saying the NFL is littered with overtime scenarios for teams that are tied at the end of the fourth quarter. The MLB doesn't structure anything in one game formats, and I dont feel they should start now. I don't see how it does that at all. All it does is make it far more likely that a team with an ace pitcher will take out a team that would otherwise beat them in a "best of".
-
Im just a believer that the regular season should be about qualifying and positioning for the post-season. I feel a true champion is one who can perform at their best when the stakes and pressure are highest. I think a home field advantage and/or a first round bye is enough of an edge for the team that had the better regular season, and I think the post season structure should be consistent. The NFL teams qualify for the post season, they're seeded, and then they play a 60 minute game to determine who advances from there. This whole 5 game series, 7 game series, 1 game sudden death back and forth nonsense is bogus, IMO. I'm more concerned about a team winning when it counts as opposed to winning their division by the end of the regular season. Also, in the MLB regular season, you always hear teams talking about winning as many series as they can....they don't say "I hope we can beat the Braves once"...they want to win the series. The idea of a one game sudden death is just too foreign to the game and it potentially gives one player - a dominant pitcher - way too much influence.
-
Do you think the wc teams in the NFL should face the same thing?
-
Yeah, but part of the rule is that the call needs to be timely. So even jsut the fact that it was late gives the Braves reason to feel slighted. It's a moot issue now, and as we all agree the Braves shot themselves in the foot a few times, but having this go down on top of everything else really sucked. I understand that argument, but I don't like it lol. Underdogs are what sports is all about, and whether it's the NFL or MLB, I wouldn't want to see the wild cards taken out of the equation. Personally, like Chef Jim said, I don't see what was wrong with the way they had it....three division winners plus the wc team. I thought that was great.
-
It did look a bit weird, I agree...basically all they accomplished was winning game 1 of a best of 8.
-
bbb, what if one team happens to have one of the league's top aces, and even though they'd struggle in a series - even a best of three series - for that one game their entire team can ride into the playoffs on the back of one guy? I think that's potentially my biggest issues with it, even though that wasn't the situation today. I just think that baseball should always be a series format, personally....even just a best of 3.

Some of them were throwing glass bottles directly at the umpire/players from what they said on the broadcast. I just don't like Atlanta fans in general.
