I know, right? She's like a more talented Diana Krall, with a more pleasing voice (and that's a compliment cause I love D.Krall's voice), singing music that I enjoy listening to more than what Diana Krall sings lol. I'm not really much into jazz, but when you put a bluesy spin on it all of a sudden it starts appealing to me a lot more. I started listening to the brief samples of each track on Amazon, and I found myself just wanting to hear more. Just a beautiful gift she has! -
I had never even heard of this artist until a couple days ago. I've since become completely captivated by her vocals! Her accompaniment is stellar as well, but WOW what a talent!

I could watch NFL Films videos all day.

I love reading stories like this. The concept of nanotechnology scares the hell out of me just as much as it interests me, but this would be one use that would truly be amazing. Kudos to her!

I think a lot of people on this site would support my assertion that I'm generally one of the more cordial and polite posters here, but for some reason after I read this I really just felt like telling you to F-off, lol. I really do apologize for that, but honestly, if there is anyplace you'll find absolutely zero sympathy for feeling "hurt" about your Packers losing this year, it's here. This would be like a Cowboys fan coming here in January of 1995 talking about how bummed they were that San Francisco beat them. WHO CARES!!! Anyway, nice to have you stop by for a visit.

With all due respect to Mrs JoePa, it's pretty clear what is/was his one true love. This whole thing is just awful. I can understand the sentiment that he failed to act when faced with information about the abuse. There is just no excuse for that. But on the other hand, being a proud Pennsylvania native I've known about and followed JoePa and Penn St my entire life. My father graduated from there (different campus) and I was recruited by Penn St as a junior in high school for a spot on their track team. (I can't even tell you guys what a great feeling it was to have a program of that standard show interest in me as an athlete...it was really an honor.) It's really a crappy way to feel about the whole thing, but that pales in comparison to what alumni of the school feel, not to mention those who were victims of that evil fuk Sandusky. I'm honestly having a hard time processing this entire situation.

True, it really was surprising how open and accessible everything was...I actually want to watch this again, so I'm glad you updated the thread as a reminder. I've never felt so transported by any documentary before...it was very surreal.

LOL Happy Bday to Mead's Wife!

I agree with Buftex about Cadillac Records...very good movie. I'm really surprised to hear this news...It seems as if I saw her on tv not long ago and she looked great. Very sad RIP, Etta!!

lol, in front of her father no less And yeah, typically what has happened in the past is you get someone with some raw talent who just has no look about them at all. The people at AI get hold of the contestant, clean them up, put a good shine on them, and next thing you know they become somewhat marketable. Like you said, some of them have pleasant voices that you can listen to, but I don't see anyone who has that untapped potential that just needs to blossom into a pop performer yet. But the only reason that's bothering me is because of how much spin they are putting on these people. If they just haven't really given any air time to the REAL prospects yet, then great. But if you have to repeatedly spin things and blow sunshine up our butts telling us how amazing it is that so many people are making it to Hollywood, when clearly there is little to no talent here yet, then that is problematic. I don't even really care if we don't get another Carrie Underwood or Chris Daughtry. I'd be happy with finding the next Bo Bice or David Cook...I guess we'll see! mini-Bieber seemed like a good kid, but I agree, can't see him going anywhere. And then there was that one guy who was almost like another Casey Abrahms (from last season). He might keep it interesting, I dunno.

You're an embarrassment to Troglodytes everywhere.

lol, it's definitely a good thing I'm not a judge. You're right, I would have tried to get him to sing for sure. And then after he sang, I would have taken a vote to see how many would have sent him to Hollywood, and then i would have said, "wow man, it's too bad you didn't audition...you would have made it to Hollywood again!!" If I wasn't at work I'd link the youtube video, but I really liked the performance by Ben Folds and the SCS when they sang Ben's songe "Gone" during the finale that year. I've since come to enjoy the album cut too, but the group performance was great. I'll definitely check out the groups you mentioned so I can see what I missed...I really enjoy a'cappela (sp?) music

I'm just comparing it to the first episodes from the last ten seasons...I've never seen them make that much of an effort to over-inflate the talent as they did last night. To me, that's telling. Typically even on the commercials/previews for the show, they'll show a very brief clip of someone that they have auditioning who looks to be a potential winner. I haven't seen anyone yet that would fit that description. Trust me, I'm an unabashed fan of the show. I want to be wrong, cause I'd love to have another season like last year. I thought Scotty was a joke, but I enjoyed Durbin, Pia, and a few others that made the live shows. I just have a feeling those people aren't there this time around, that's all. EDIT: Apparently tent girl is a huge alcoholic with multiple (recent) arrests related to her addiction...niiice lol

I watched Sing-Off last year (the season with Street Corner Symphony) and ended up becoming a Ben Folds fan. I've since bought four of his albums and really enjoy his music. Didn't catch the show this past season, though.

Definitely. It's not guaranteed beyond the signing bonus, but as long as he's on the roster he'll get his full pay.

Well, the good news is that I was entertained by the show tonight. The bad news is that I'm pretty sure once hollywood week is over and the live shows start, I won't even watch anymore. At best, I'll give them the FF treatment, but seeing how they were gushing over people who could barely carry a tune tonight was not a good sign. Whatever was left of the talent pool in amateur land has been tapped to death by all the talent shows. X-Factor this year was the last of it, I'm fearing. I hope I'm wrong, but I didn't see a single contestant who looked marketable or special at all. There were a few who had pleasant voices, and a few others who could sing really loud but not in a pleasing manner. They were stuck having to beg a retread from last year who didn't even make the live shows to audition even though he had chosen not to. I'm sure I'll watch up through hollywood week, but beyond that I just dont know...and that makes me sad, cause there is a huge nostalgia factor with this show for me. I think it'll really start to fizzle this season and limp into season 12 next year, and then that will be it. After that, X-factor will have a chance to run for a while, but I don't see it ever reaching the level of what Idol has been until recently.

I'll echo what others have said...even if this was the 80s and nobody even knew there was still a team in Green Bay, fans of your team have no idea what it's like to be a Bills fan.

You eat one of those and people will start referring to you as Foghorn.

Wow, this is the first season of AI where I had absolutely no idea when it was starting...thanks for the head's up!

I can't click on taht link while I'm at work...does the Texas Double Whopper cause intense gas or soemthing?

Very cool! I don't know a lot about Mike Leach, but I can't WAIT to see this. I don't care if its HS, college, Pro, Lingerie, etc...if it's insider football, I want to see it
-
AStro, I keep seeing Coples as our pick today. Your draft makes it the third or fourth time his name has come up just in the last few hours. I watch more SEC ball than anything else, so I didn't see much of this kid. Watched some highlight vids, and he seems like a solid player but didn't really see any one particular highlight that "wow'ed" me. What's your take on him?
-
I heard about this on my local AM sports talk station here in Atlanta (680 the Fan; Chuck and Chernoff). Apparently Peter Berg is in the process of shooing a documentary on Mike Leach and his coaching adventures. For those who don't know Peter Berg, he is the one who directed "Friday Night Lights", the film (not the TV show). We'll have to keep an eye on this, cause I'm sure a lot of TBD'ers really love shows that get you insider access to football programs. I'm really psyched, and I know one TBD'er who will be watching for sure! This one's for you, Senator!
