Tell me who, at any position, has made the Hall of Fame as a Career Backup and occasional Bridge QB simply because he's "famous"? I'm all for "having fun" and debating points. But there has to be some merit to it. To use your analogy, you're arguing why you think Rob Schneider should have an Academy Award.

Capitol One The Match (Allen Tattoo)

Yeah, I have no clue. It seems like they have a PGA Production Truck going that is used to balls going where they expect to go and shoot in that direction and when it doesn't they just give up. I don't watch Golf, can anyone explain to me how it was determined Brady and Rodgers won the hole when nobody sank a putt? -
I thought he had a shot to make it as the last LB on the roster for his familiarity with the team and Special Teams ability, but that he was going to have to beat out Marquel Lee and Baylon Spector for the job and the team would have to be keeping 6 this season instead of the 5 they kept last season for it to happen. Now there's 0 chance he makes the 53. Though I do think there's a chance for him to be on the Practice Squad again.

Video: Bills Sights & Sounds from OTAs
BillsFanForever19 replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall
As silly as it sounds, Sal C has said he's listed as a LB so he can wear #40 (his college number). As a Defensive Lineman, you can only wear 50-79 or 90-99. If you've watched him (especially the past few years) - he doesn't line up anywhere else but the Edge. He will not be playing Linebacker. Period. We don't run a 3-4 and even if we did, I don't see him rushing from that deep downfield at this stage in his career. -
The Rookie Premiere is held by Trading Card companies to get pictures of the Rookies they feel will be the most desired in the hobby, in their new digs for upcoming cards. They generally only invite the top skill players offensively as those are the players that will be in demand amongst collectors. Literally the only Defensive Players invited from the entire Draft were Travon Walker, Aidan Hutchinson, Sauce Gardner, and Kyle Hamilton. Everyone else was a QB, RB, or WR (and Trey McBride being the top TE selected). Kaiir Elam and all other Rookies that will get cards will be featured in their College uniforms or pictures they request from team practices. I'm actually more surprised Khalil Shakir didn't get an invite than I am Kaiir Elam.

James Cook was at the 2022 NFL Rookie Premiere.

Couple quick little notes from this clip: - Found it interesting that they showed a quick run through of a line that featured Von Miller and Greg Rousseau on the Edges and Ed Oliver and Jordan Phillips in the middle. Could Phillips be getting a look at not only 1T, but starting 1T? - Really cool to see Von showing Rousseau pointers already. - It seems that Carlos Basham Jr. has switched to Jerry Hughes old number of #55.

Could have? Maybe. We'd have had to do even more reworking than we already have to do that (and we've already done a ton of that). And he already has work to do to get to where he said he wants to be cap wise by the start of this season. But Bradberry wasn't going to sign somewhere that didn't offer him a full time unquestioned starting CB1 or CB2 job for at least the whole season. He had multiple suitors who had that available to him. In Phili he might be CB1 over Darius Slay for the year. And if all goes well there for both sides, he'll have the ability to re-sign there and keep the starting role long term. We weren't going to spend our 1st and our 4th on Elam and then make him 3rd Outside CB off the bench in his Rookie season. If they had any concerns about Elam's ability to hold down CB2 in his 1st year, they wouldn't have spent what they spent to get him. And even if Bradberry were okay with starting a few games until White was ready and then being depth behind White and Elam after White returned, we weren't going to pay upwards of 10 million for that role. Bradberry coming here was never going to happen. If we wanted Bradberry for the gig, we'd have made a move for him before the Draft and we would have addressed CB with much less Draft assets than we used for Elam.

How is Fitzy still a free agent?
BillsFanForever19 replied to Dan Darragh's topic in The Stadium Wall
For the same reason some people on this board can't let Jerry Hughes go. Fans form emotional bonds over certain Bills players that cloud their judgement when it comes to age, injuries, and/or degradation in skill. -
Where do we sit on cap space?
BillsFanForever19 replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall
We currently have 89 of 90 roster spots filled. Beane has said he wants to have around 5 mil going into the year. We have very little space right now. If we make a move, it will be a veteran minimum one. The roster is pretty much set going into Camp. Bradberry never made sense. If we were to be in on Bradberry, we'd have been in on him before the Draft and wouldn't have used our 1st on a CB. Bradberry was never going to go somewhere that didn't have a full time, unquestioned starter role for the entire season. We weren't going to spend the 25th pick and our 4th Rounder to trade up for a CB and delegate him to 3rd Outside CB off the bench in his Rookie Season. We were never going to pay what Bradberry commands for the type of role he'd have had on this team, even if he were okay being depth. And if the Bills didn't think Elam had the ability to hold down CB2 in his Rookie year, we wouldn't have spent a 1st Round pick on him. Bradberry was never happening. Our CB's are White and Elam. Dane will hold down the other spot alongside Elam until White is ready. They'll have Taron in the Nickel and Hyde and Poyer behind them. Maybe we bring in some veteran depth. But I don't know that anyone out there is that much of an upgrade over what we have at this stage in their careers. They might be fine with Cam Lewis and Christian Benford (and he could be the next Dane or Levi or better for all we know) behind them until White is ready. -
He was never going to sign somewhere that didn't offer an unquestioned full time starting gig. He had multiple suitors that had that option. We weren't going to spend a 1st Round pick on someone and then make them 3rd Outside CB off the bench in his Rookie Year. Nor were we going to pay that kind of money for a depth player, even if he were okay with not starting. It was never happening. And if the Bills had concerns about Elam's ability to Start in Year 1 - they wouldn't have taken him at 23.

Strongest Conference Foe

There's been SO much change in the Conference this offseason, we won't know until about 3/4 of the way through the season, in my opinion. -

BillsFanForever19 replied to Dan Darragh's topic in The Stadium Wall
He's turning 40 this season, has always been considered a Journeyman level talent, and is coming off the worst injury of his career. I know Bills fans have a soft spot for him, but it's pretty self explanatory as to why he doesn't have a job. -
I know nobody around here wants to hear it. But Taiwan Jones will be here for Special Teams. If they didn't think he still had it in him for the role, they'd have let him walk instead of giving him another contract. Every year he's been here posters have wanted to put him on the bubble and every Training Camp and Pre-Season he's been one of the protected veterans and has never sniffed the bubble they think he's on. He's more important to McDermott than fans view him to be.

I said in the same offseason. As in cut and then brought back a couple months later. Coming to an IR injury settlement and then bringing them back the following season when healthy is not comparable.

You are SERIOUSLY over simplifying things in your mantra of Christian McCaffrey being an All-Pro and James Cook not being a Starter. Christian McCaffrey was an All Pro... in 2019. Since that time he's played in a total of 10 games. And at least 3 of those 10 games involved him exiting the game early or attempting to come back from injury and getting injured again. Dude's got a Medical History that lights up like a Christmas Tree. In large part due to having a total of 1,859 touches (not an exaggeration, an exact number) between rushing attempts and receptions between College and the Pros. And that doesn't take into account pass pro reps. That's a LOT of tread taken off the tires. https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/christian-mccaffrey-1.html https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/McCaCh01.htm And if all that wasn't concerning enough, there's his contract. 9 million cap hit this season that goes up to 19.5 million in both 2023 and 2024 and will cost 18.35 in Dead Cap if we wanted to move on from him after this season. AND we'd have to give up Draft Compensation on top of it. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/carolina-panthers/christian-mccaffrey-21749/ James Cook "wasn't a starter" but still managed to be the leader in all purpose yards on Offense for the National Championship team last season and was drafted 2 Rounds before "the starter". He played in a split backfield in Georgia just like the offense McDermott likes to utilize here. He's a player that stays fresh and doesn't need to get a whole bunch of reps to get going. The best pass catching RB in the Draft, a position we were looking to fill. He has way less wear and tear and usage and costs close to nothing compared to what we'd have had to pay McCaffrey. In that split backfield in Georgia where he "wasn't the starter" - last season, James Cook had 140 touches compared to Zamir White's 169. That's 83% of the touches "the starter" had. That's almost a complete split. So referring to Cook like he's a backup is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/zamir-white-1.html https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/james-cook-2.html

Can you name a single time Brandon Beane has outright cut someone instead of restructuring them and then brought them back in the same offseason? Especially after spending a Day 2 Draft Pick on their replacement. They clearly wanted to get younger and quicker there. We kept 5 on the 53 last season. The only change is Bernard for Klein. Younger, faster, cheaper, with upside, and someone who provides more in the coverage ability department. If they wanted Klein instead of Dodson or Matakevitch, they'd have kept Klein, not re-signed Dodson to a new deal, and/or gotten rid of Matakevitch instead. Matakevitch will be here for his Special Teams. He's one of the, if not, the most important player on that squad. It's why he wasn't cut or even restructured when they were looking to clear cap space. If they choose to keep 6 this season, the final spot will be a battle between Baylon Spector (who already took Klein's #54), Marquel Lee, Andre Smith, and Joe Giles-Harris as depth that probably wouldn't dress on Sunday's unless there's an injury.

Yes, but you don't call someone up and say "I'll give you this for CMC" as soon as they pick up the phone. Especially with a team that Beane has such a personal relationship with. It's more likely they called to gauge what their interest was, if any, in moving him and what their asking price was if they were. Simply calling about a player doesn't mean they made a formal trade offer. If they were interested in moving him and the price was anything close, they'd have gotten it done. My guess is they were not interested in moving him or that their asking price wasn't close to what we would have been willing to offer. In which case, I doubt they even bothered to discuss it further than the "due diligence" they did in making the call.

I know 17-0 is the credo. But my realistic thought is 12-5.
