Professional Sports on the Rise and Fall

But NASCAR is making the same mistake as hockey...abandoning its core markets and taking races away from core tracks to give to markets that don't really care. Hockey took away the Jets and Nordiques. While the Avalanche have been a success, the Coyotes have struggled mightily. Nascar is doing the same thing, taking races away from die hards in VA and NC to stage races in Las Vegas and California that noone really cares about. -
Please keep us posted. I'm curious as well...unfortunately the end of my cigarette smoking is drawing near.

Going in October...perhaps I will post some.

Professional Sports on the Rise and Fall

I am not a soccer fan by any means, in fact, I deplore the sport. But my best friend is an Arsenal fan and finally got me to go out with him to watch the "match" one Saturday morning at Nevada Smith's in NYC. Let me tell you...that was a fun time. Imagine a bar with about 300 people in it at 7:00AM Saturday morning...6 different games, fan groups chanting and singing really obsence and funny songs at each other...all while getting plastered. Walk out of the bar around noon, bombed, and proceed to try and figure something out to do with your day. If thats what soccer is in Europe, I can understand the attraction. The game is secondary, the drinking and back-and-forth between the fan groups is the fun. -
Can you get fired from your job...

Try zipcar for a short term or temporary solution. My buddy is a member and loves it, he can always get a car when he needs it in the city. This way it will buy you some time until you can find a better solution/job for your situation. http://www.zipcar.com/ -
You realize there is one, small beach on Key West right? Key West is not the spot for beaches. Islamorda, Marathon or even Key Largo have better beaches. Nightlife, restaurants, biking and nice pools are definately the Key West vibe...beaches, not so much.

Yes, for "men" who wear Crocs.

Thats why God invented sandals.

Key West is an amazing time. My wife and I are headed to Fantasy Fest this year. Last time we were in Key West, we stayed in the Gardens Hotel. Spectacular. Right off Duval (not in the cruise ship area), and surrounded by gardens. Really, just a nice place. http://www.gardenshotel.com/

Jon Favreau rarely disappoints. Love to see what he will do with Iron Man. I had no interest in the movie until I heard he was directing. Now, I'm excited to see it.

They should never have been charged, as I said in my first post. Reading about the testimony every day in the paper, it was pretty clear that tehre was no crime committed here. DA bowed to political pressure to charge and should pay the price in the next election (of course he won't). Some similarities here with the Duke case and DA's bringing cases they should not simply due to political pressure. In the meantime, three officer or students have to go through the ordeal. Pretty shameful if you ask me.

Which is why the cost of college is going to come down dramatically. The government has made some noise about requiring colleges to abide by the same rules as private foundations regarding endowments (You must spend 5% per year) if the colleges do not use some of that huge endowment to make education more affordable. You are already seeing this at the Ivies.

I work next door to the Wall St heliport...the cool thing is seeing him come in via helicopter, flanked by two other choppers. Same way the pope cam in. They all use this heliport, which is why I see the NYC motorcade. Of course, the motorcade does not count the NYPD who stop traffic on the FDR for him.

125 places to have a beer before you die....

Just did some net research...they were forced toa dmit women in 1970, not the early 80s. Apologies for the error. -
My position is not that hard, notice the hypothetical question. Gus2378 really made some good points, primarily about us not being one player away, although I think the net effect of Taylor coming to Buffalo only two years removed from NFL defensive player of the year would be a positive in several ways. More Junior Seau/Rodney Harrison to the Pats* than Bledsoe to the Bills. He has been a very good football player and would give us another pass rusher, again, if committed. I just have visions of us going into that last game 9-6 and getting waxed again by NE* because we let Brady sit in the pocket all day.
-
You make good points. I just saw the way to beat Brady is to hit him early and often. I have never seen Brady look as rattled and defeated as he did in the SB. We don't have all the rushers needed for this strategy and I'm sick of losing 32-10. Stroud and Schobel are not young, Crowell is a FA after the season. Lets get after the Pats* and take the division. Our team needs a little leadership and if the D is championship caliber, it can buy time for the passing game to grow. I have little concerns with respect to the running game, bringing our OL back intact with Lynch and a FB will be the way we control a game. Strong running game and championship level defense is always a pretty good formula.
-
I wouldn't even dream of trying with respect to our offense. Our defense, on the other hand, will be playoff claiber IMHO and could be championship caliber if we added Taylor.
-
OK...3rd and goal, 9-6 BUF leading 10-5 NE 20-16 with :35 seconds to play...Brady has the ball at our 7, who do you want rushing him Kelsey/McCargo/Johnston/Schobel or Taylor/McCargo/Johnston/Schobel?
-
Some of you make me laugh....draft picks are gold and every one is the next pro bowl whatever right? How many 1st rounders do we have from the last 8 years who will start for us this year? 3...Whitner, Lynch and Evans. How many times has Jason Taylor beaten the Pats* in the last 8 years....how many times have we? We have 4 DEs...right, we may have one in Schobel. The others are solid players, not difference makers. Taylor won the Defensive MVP of the league two years ago. Who was the last Bill to get individual league-wide honors? Taylor, yeah, he wants a career in Hollywood. If he gets the Bills to the playoffs and takes down Brady on national TV, he'd raise his profile a lot right? You'd get 2 good years out of him and one mediocre. Thats more good years than any of the 1st round picks we made this decade (save Lynch or Whitner, too young to tell on either). Think about that. I'd be all for offering Miami our #2, but if it took the #1...go for it.

You really need to consolidate those. Right now it is a very good time to do that, in fact, it is probably the best time in the last 25 years and for the next 25 years. With conolidation, you lock in a fixed rate payable over 20-30 years. Forget the variable rates, lock in now since the Fed is done with rate cuts. Last time rates were almost as low as now, crica 2002, we locked in my wife's loans for undergrad and law school (about 80k) at very reasonable terms.
