Shouldn't Pres Obama be Shouting from the Rooftop
stuckincincy replied to BillsNYC's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Technology marches on. More science. The little men and women in their cubicles inexorably figure out how to reduce labor costs, how to save money, how to develop databases for ever and ever more data mining from the people. Perhaps the Luddite were right... -
Your local police force...the ones we see on tv with the military insignia...Generals' stars, Colonels' wings on their collars, have at their disposal, large stocks of full-automatic assault rifles. Care to comment on those paramilitary forces?

That family lived several years in the Greater Cinncinati area. The news stories, neighbors, here spoke of them as decent folk. -
Shift in the Republican party
stuckincincy replied to Fingon's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Forget it. The U.S. inexorably is moving to one-party government. There is a complete generation of voters, cultivated by leftists, that are increasingly dependent upon the State. It's over. Folks that saved up, put down 20% for their mortgage have the government leg lifted upon them. It's bad behavior that gets rewarded, because there's where the preponderance of votes come from. Success, good sense is punished. Crummy behavior is rewarded by free money extracted from those that tried to do right, who acted responsibly. -
The Cincinnati police have repeatedly said that whites and hispanics should stay out of some of the city's black neighborhoods, and have a history of racial, violent attacks to prove their advice. A black person can walk the streets of any area of the city, the region; a white or hispanic is at grave risk in some. I think this repeats across the nation. Comment?

This spending bill that was such a big rush has sat for 4 days. I guess it gets signed today... -
A Realistic Draft Day Trade Scenario

Blurb about Cushing: By Rob Rang, Senior Analyst, NFLDraftScout.com 2/11/09: ..."By most accounts Cushing was among the more impressive linebackers throughout the week of practice at the Senior Bowl. Rather than focusing on his athleticism and instincts on the field, however, scouts in the stands were buzzing about reports that Cushing spends thousands of dollars a month on nutritional supplements. While no one is claiming Cushing's supplements should be confused with illegal steroids, it does raise questions about how maxed out Cushing might be -- questions that could push the All-American down the board considering the top-end talent this year at linebacker."... http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/risersandfallers -

Combine Attendees Should be in the Starting Block
stuckincincy replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The offense, be it TE taking the safest option or the plays called by the coaches, need to change philosophy if they want to pursue a WR in the 1st round. Unless they are going to change their philosophical stripes, I'd like to see them contemplate a TE in the 2nd. -

? He said 270 degrees. It was clear to me he was referring to a heading change, not bank angle. Commercial, general aviation craft don't execute roll maneuvers. -

I'm so sorry. May they R.I.P. -
Off-topic. I have a memory of SD's Speedie Duncan whacking at John Mackey over the middle, and Unitas completed the pass. Speedie jumped on his back, wrapping his legs around Mackey, and was beating him on the head with this, then that fist for 20 yards or so until they fell down. Remember Chief's Fred "The Hammer" Williamson? Always seemed to have a wrist injury, so he could wear a heavy cast to club people with. Rich "The Sheriff" Jackson and his head slaps. If T.O. and his mouth played back then, he'd be sporting false teeth, uppers and lowers.

If today's QB's went back in time, with bump and run coverage, single-bar helmets or no bar, goal posts planted at the goal line, and personal fouls assessed (maybe) only if you were unconscious and bleeding to the point you would sully the field...they might not shine so brightly. Crackback blocks, receivers being constantly pummeled after the snap, slaps and elbows to the face, 2 goal posts on the goal line, not 1 at the back of the end zone and so on. "peyton mannings, tom bradys, john elways, joe montanas and dan marinos" might have been weeping and sulking on the sidelines. Who knows?

Nope. I'll toss a nickel in for Kenny Stabler. Certainly far from the top, doubtful at best for a HOF berth, but I always liked the way he played the game. Of course, he had the advantage of a fine supporting cast, and a memorable head coach.

Major Plane Crash in Clarence Center (50 dead)
stuckincincy replied to PTS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I got up at 2 AM to take a wizz, and turned on the tv to check the weather report. The Weather Channel android with perfect stage make-up mentioned the crash, so I flipped over to the cable crowd. The national tv news crowd are in the main, beyond insipid. How they get to adulthood without a whit of general knowledge about anything is a curiosity unexplained. -

Got it. I see what you say about a stall. I noticed that the wing width looked shortish. I listened to 3 perhaps 4, of the - phone in pilots. They were complimentary of the craft in general - one mentioned that it's an easy plane to fly. None mentioned stall propensity - but they wouldn't. In contrast to the tv yahoos, all properly avoided speculation. That flight is the one that my sister-in-law takes to visit Bflo. for holidays. It used to be jet service, but as Continental parceled out the flight to a "Connection Partner" the past few years, the route was serviced by a turboprop. -

Yes -de-icing boots. The high wing placement was mentioned by one the phone-in pilots, in the context that it is not very viewable from the cockpit. He did mention that the wipers can be a tip-off. -

I heard a pilot on one of the cable channels talking about the Dash 8. He said that the engine intakes are heated all the time. He also said that pilots have familiarity with the Bflo. area, and icing. He felt that the wing de-icers were likely on. They are the bladder type on that craft. One witness said he heard the engines sputtering, while several others said that the they were throttled up. That nose dive makes me wonder if there was a mechanical/electrical/hydraulic malfunction that caused the elevators to snap fully down. -
And his period.
