  1. at the pats-bills game a few years ago at foxboro they had a stealth bomber flyover (how great is the internet that you can just find this stuff you remember from 4 years ago?)
  2. is that when jeff wright crawled on his knees at about the 5 yard line to sack the vikings qb?
  3. he did an interesting podcast with adam carolla last year - lived an interesting life... http://www.adamcarolla.com/ACPBlog/2009/10/08/adam-and-robert-schimmel/
  4. this was interesting to read (minus the teaching debate). How about bands on the college / fraternity circuit? In the mid 90's we used to pay between $1000-$1500 per night for bands (a few times per semester), so I always figured that wasn't half bad for those guys. Of course, they can only make that 2 nights a week and the other nights they probably make $300 at a random bar...
  5. and the guy who got the red card for the handball is suddenly the hero of the country - incredible.
  6. Unfortunately there is no such thing as liver dialysis. the world of transplants is very interesting, and it is depressing that only 10% of New Yorkers are donors. I read that in Utah the number is 60% - go figure. Steve Jobs set himself up on the transplant list in tennessee, where the wait for organs is much shorter (not saying that is a bad thing).
  7. If so let me know, otherwise i'll have to buy one on ebay thanks.....
  8. I went to the main island (Provo) with 3 other couples about 5 years ago. Rented a big house and had a great time - BUT... It's not a lush tropical island like the virgin islands. Very few trees, mostly scrub / desert like. There isn't much to do there, but if you are just looking for a beautiful beach and crystal clear water (we were fishing at one point in 90 feet of water - and you could still see rocks on the bottom) - it's a great place. Go to bugaloo's conch shack one day for lunch - cool place. have fun.
  9. GNR all the way. Did anyone go to the 1992 GNR-metallica-faith no more show at Rich Stadium? Besides being an incredible concert, the entire stadium turned into a "throw sh*t around"" free for all for an hour between GNR and metallica - stuff everywhere in the air, including giant toilet paper rolls being thrown from the upper deck. Saw GNR a few times afterward without the rest of the band, and they were still awesome (even 4 years ago at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NY) - Axl has incredible energy on stage.
  10. the chances of it being an off color joke are .000005%
  11. i think that was either a repeat or they redid one of there own programs - I know I had seen it before.
  12. they are the best in the world - the exact concept of the olympics. Do you also think that Bode Miller and Lindsey Vonn should be replaced by some 17 year old kids from KB who don't compete in the world cup circuit?
  13. never thought I'd be considering a Buick, but the enclave gets great reviews, and it drives better than any other similar car we've been in (MDX specifically). still a bit nervous about the GM thing though.... the acura has much cooler technology package (voice control for navigation, weather etc) but the ride isn't as smooth and the blind spot is much bigger.
  14. yes, the yankees play in NYC - just like the mets.
  15. I was in the midwest for work once and mentioned I was from Buffalo, and the person responded with something about me being a yankee fan. He was surprised when i mentioned there were 5 MLB teams closer to me than the Yankees.... (though I just checked and i lied to the guy...it's only 4. nyc is officially 399 via yahoo maps, while philly is 406 and even cinci 429. good thing he didn't call BS on me)
  16. i live in NYC and use the term upstate as a general descriptor. doesn't bother me.
  17. very sad. A ton of tourists drown in hawaii every year - don't realize they are dealing with the pacific and not a pretty postcard.
  18. same exact thing with the summer games - but worse, though I think short track speed skating is far more exciting than ping pong or sailing. i don't disagree, but it's not his fault for that graphic - blame NBC and the state of media today. Ono is still pretty good at what he does.
  19. I don't know what i'd do if my teammate tried to pass me and lost me a medal with 1/4 lap to go and all 3 of our team guaranteed medals. unbelievable.
  20. cool concept for a show, but like everything these days way to scripted and overproduced. Of course they put him with sympathetic figures and really hard workers. They aren't going to put him with one of the thousands of grubby, foul mouthed guys that surely work those same jobs. It is a giant PR win for the company involved more than anything. I liked the michael moore show (though i don't like much he does) where he went to people like the CEO of ford and asked him to change the oil on a taurus. He did all the detroit companies, and one of the CEO's was able to do it. you work at GSI? whereabouts? My rep sucks.
  21. Back from Florida, got to see the launch - absolutely incredible. Went through all the motions on Saturday (sunday morning) for launch - killing a ton of time at the space center, taking a bus to viewing area - about 45 degrees outside. The day started out 80% chance of launch, but was 30% by an hour before launch. Just before the 9 minute countdown started, they decided the weather was too iffy and scrubbed the launch. 7 hours at the space center down the tubes.... Decided to stick around one more day (tough decision - weather was still very iffy and saturday-sunday had been pretty miserable given the scrub - didn't want to have that happen again). This time the launch went on time and was incredible. We ended up getting special tickets so were 3 miles away (the best other options were 6 miles (if you can get tickets) and then about 12 miles) - this made a big difference. It is hard to do it justice, but when it literally turns night into day, and you see the shuttle slowly rise over the tower with the awesome white smoke all around it. Just so majestic looking and powerful. It picks up speed and after a few more seconds the sound hits you - a very loud ripping type sound that is hard to describe. here is a video by someone else taken where we were - the only thing it doesn't show is the shuttle itself - which you could see fine with the naked eye on launch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gg9JrtancNM thanks for all your thoughts ahead of time...
  22. i walked by it the other day - it's down to about 15 stories now. talk about a clusterf*ck.
