If this defense can never just be above avg in a critical playoff game, doesn't that tell us everything we need to know. I feel like we're just fooling ourselves thinking it's going to magically just work out. There's systemic issues on defense. The 3rd down defense for example is getting worse exponentially Bruce Smith isn't walking through that door Maybe if they had a truly great pass rusher someone could talk me into thinking that the talent could overcome some coaching deficiencies
-
This is sadly the most obvious Truth but ppl are pretending like oh it was different this year. What was different lol The defense was avg mostly in the regular season. We still can't get a real pass rusher and the defense was historically bad in the playoffs again. Like so the answer is let's load up more resources on defense again, Sean then won't play them because of their inexperience as rookies and they'll get torched again in the playoffs. Oh and the 3rd down defense will be a joke I hate that ppl think we made progress this year lol. Yeah we got a real OC that actually used a scheme to open up things but he's going to be gone in a year or two. Then what?
-
I really wonder if we had a truly great pass rusher like Myles Garrett opposite Rousseau, you'd probably see Rousseau get 12-14 sacks. But I get your point. He's not really a true difference maker. I really wish Beane would trade up for Abdul Carter similar to when we traded for Cornelius Bennett We just don't have" that guy" on defense.
-
They forced 2 punts man. Like it was terrible There was multiple drives where they didn't even need to convert a 3rd down
-
They'll probably keep Rousseau just because he's really the only true talent we have up front and only 24. Him and Oliver They really do need to overhaul the defense tho in the draft Like 2 CBS A safety A linebacker And probably 3-4 dlineman 7-9 picks need to be spent on defense. The cb rooms athletic ability needs to be upgraded dramatically.

Resign Hollins 1 yr -3 mil Davidson Clapp Ty Johnson 2 yrs 6 mil Gilliam 2 yrs Smoot vet min Ankou A. Johnson vet min Maybe Jordan Phillips on a vet min Toohill or Jonathan Damar on a cheap 2 yr deal Probably Douglas for a 2 year deal
-
It's disturbing how many assets we have used to try and build this dline and how it continues to actually regress. This dline isn't as good as the 20-21 dlines One of the worst signings in Buffalo Bills history.

If Allen asks for a new staff he should get it.

@poblano What do you think burrow would've done to this defense if they got in? Maybe then McDermott truthers could see the light -
If Allen ran the no huddle spread he would literally have 5000 + passing yards and 50 + passing touchdowns. It really is bonkers lol. Can I ask you a question. Will this defense ever do for Allen what the KC defense did for mahomes and win the AFC championship 17-10? How about Brady winning the Superbowl 13-3? Kelly an AFC championship 10-7.... How about 23-20? Is your premise that Allen needs to score 35 -40 points to win a playoff game and then just let McDermott clap to the heavens for motivation? We all saw the number one seed on the line vs the rams and Allen scored 6 tds in 21 minutes. They lost ... I'm tired of this man Tell me what exactly does McDermott do here? He's a pretty good leader, but so was dick jaroun. What are we doing man. Yup. 120 million dollar contract was a devastating mistake. Who knows what would be different but that's a terrible terrible mistake

Giving a RB a big contract would just tell me this front office is worse than I realized.

This is because of Josh Allen.... As soon as Andy Reid got mahomes he won the super bowl in year 2 and rex did it with a game Manager QB to put it mildly There are answers. Sean Payton was a real answer Trading for Kyle Shanahan is something I would think about Ben Johnson was just available.... Maybe he's a young bill Walsh We have to try man -
The defense is historically atrocious in the playoffs. In 20 the defense was 16th in pts against , they won 13 games In 24 the defense was 11th in points against and they won 13 games lol He's dick jaroun with an all time great QB It's astonishing to me that ppl cant see the distinction

Some thoughts on why we can't get over the hump
Kelly to Allen replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
If Chess player A is always losing to chess player B, the matchup in theory could be perceived as close in a micro sense , but is it really? Or is there a clear demarcation when you step back and take a 30,000 foot view? The bills 4th down play compared to the chiefs 3rd and 9 couldn't be more different, and so much more goes into that then just a mesh route etc. We don't have the offensive philosophy, coaching infrastructure or front office that is on the chiefs level. I believe they're trying to transition to an offensive philosophy where Allen depends more on the scheme rather than his raw talent. But it's not as smooth and mastered like the chiefs. This game and loss by 3 is not just the sum of a few plays. It's the sum of many decisions over the years and different organizations with different levels of development and philosophy. Long story short we need to get Allen his version of Andy Reid or shanahan. Because with McDermott he's playing chess without a queen basically. We aren't beating Bobby Fischer without our queen Again, it's time to move on. The part that is astonishing and extremely hopeful is Allen is coming extremely close check mating Bobby Fischer even without a queen. They gotta get him this eras Bill Walsh imo -

I'll go back to my chess analogy. If person A is constantly losing to player B , do you honestly think it's actually " close"? Or is the micro view giving the illusion that is blinding you from a clear demarcation. The bills lost this game because of some plays etc. but from a 30,000 foot view there are a collection of decisions and moments over a number of years on a macro level that shows KC is a few steps ahead. We all know what they are.... I'll give you a perfect example that shows a major gulf but it's just two plays. Look at how the bills coaches handled the last 4th and 5 to extend the drive. Then look at how smooth and easily schemed open the KC RB was on 3rd down and 9 to ice the game.... We don't have the caliber front office, coach and philosophy that is conducive to winning a championship. That is clear as day to me. It's good to avg but it's not an elite championship level The offensive philosophy and scheme isn't elite enough to win in many moments that don't necessarily depend on the raw ability and talent of Josh Allen. All of that is coaching, preparation, being innovative and that's the difference. Here's the sad part. Despite playing the chess game shirt handed without a queen Allen is still almost winning these games. Like Allen's talent Alone is still almost beating Bobby Fischer even without his queen. The queen as an analogy here is coaching and offensive philosophy. They got to find Allen's version of Mike shanahan -
He's a good leader. But he's dick jaroun with this eras John Elway. He's not that guy. And Beane is overrated

The difference goes beyond a game plan and just a few plays. I'm not saying you don't realize that. It's the whole order of operations and there's just a big gap imo between the two organizations. It's a lot of things that Together tell me this regime isn't it Allen absolutely is that guy tho. He really is. So there's hope -

There is a difference between a person who studied to be a good chess player and a genius chess player who can just through his natural intelligence see things others don't. This regime is a good chess player The chiefs are Bobby Fischer. I'll keep saying that until ppl get it. It actually speaks to how great Allen is. He's entering the chess match without a queen and he's still almost winning. It's pretty incredible... In fact in 13 seconds he check mated mahomes and Sean McDermott spilled milk all over the board game
