Hurts and Purdy don’t have to go through Mahomes to get to a Super Bowl. The bolded part cannot be stressed enough for people that keep on blaming the defense. They held KC to a fg so Allen and the offense could go be heroes. Flipped it around the other way. If KC’s defense held us to a fg with 3 minutes left so Mahomes could go win the game everyone would say that’s a great defensive stand etc. The difference is Mahomes and company usually come through, like in last year’s Super Bowl winning drive, and we falter. Two years in a row now with the exact scenario. At least last year we got to fg range. This year we couldn’t even do that.

Yes. Spags was setting them up. It’s his MO. Sometimes it feels like we’re so outmatched and outclassed. Year after year.
-
Setting the correct protection pre-snap was the issue here. He didn’t recognize what was happening and got fooled. But that was one heck of a throw for sure.

Still cracks me up that we gave Mahomes to the Chiefs

Agreed. That’s the point. Realizing that and letting it affects your play is something he hasn’t learned to fully control. Some fans just don’t want to see it. There’s a reason we’re 0-4 against KC in the playoffs. -
It would’ve been nice if he slid protection to the right pre-snap.

That was a legacy defining moment for him. It could have changed everything regarding his narrative with the media and NFL fans in general. A missed opportunity for sure.

These two guys have been starting for 7 years. They’ve been in multiple big games. They don’t need to be eased into games. Allen starts the game throwing to KC defenders. All because of jitters. That’s just how he’s wired. When he really wants a game his emotions sometimes get the best of him. The Houston game is year was the same way. -

Yes, I do. At least in the beginning of games. That’s who Allen is. He gets himself too hyped up in big games. It takes him a little to settle down. Whereas Mahomes is ready to go in big games from the get go. That’s not coaching or anything external. It’s their personality. One has his emotions under control at all times and the other not so much. -
It’s not as simple as Allen vs Mahomes. It’s a team game. With that said the defense made the stop for Allen and the offense to go win the game. That would’ve been a legacy defining drives. As was last year’s drive against KC in the playoffs. Unfortunately couldn’t get it done. Those situations are what shape narratives.

Hard to beat the Chiefs and the refs every post-season

Not sure about that. Philly’s DLine was ferocious today. Saquon is also playing like a man possessed. Those are two of KC’s weaknesses. -
Spags fooled Allen with a well disguised blitz. Allen slid protection the wrong way. He was still able to get an incredible pass off that should’ve been caught. That’s not throwing up on themselves. Sometimes you gotta tip your cap to the opponent.

I’ve been saying it’s a team loss. The defense, despite losing their best cb very early, still managed to hold KC to a fg at the end so the offense could have a chance to win. Offense couldn’t. Team loss. People just want to blame the defense. This is the 4th time KC has knocked us out of the playoffs. The defense is not going to shut down Mahomes. The offense has to out score them. They had a chance tonight and couldn’t. They had a chance last playoffs and couldn’t. Let’s hope they could next time they’re in that position again. -

Cool. Guess we’ll have to settle for that moral victory until next season. -

Unfortunately the opposition scored 32. Needed 33 not 29. -
Choke is a little much. We needed great and good from him.

I’m trying to be levelheaded but you’re making me depressed. Haha. I don’t want to quit football next season. -

If you really believe this I suggest stop watching football. It’ll be better for your mental health. For me… if Kincaid made that catch we’d win. -

Still had a shot to win at the end. Just couldn’t do it…this time. -

I’m usually critical of Allen but this is on the whole offense to me. He did slid the line protection the wrong way on that 4th down but you can tip your cap to Spags on that one. That blitz was well designed. -

That’s an opinion that I didn’t share. We’re better in the Oline and running attack. KC has better DLine and receivers. Besides, the better teams don’t always win. Especially in the playoffs. I thought the refs did a decent job aside from a couple spotting issues. -

You’re right. Benford leaving so early made the defense a lot more vulnerable. Which made holding KC to a fg in that last drive even more remarkable. Offense needed to step up at that point to win the game. It does hurt worse given that context. -

They do what’s necessary to win. That’s why I was more nervous about this game than the Baltimore game. Lamar and Mahomes are such different quarterbacks. Couldn’t understand why so many fans on here predicted an easy win in the pregame thread all week.
