Buffalo may not have much going for it
SilverNRed replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Western New York's leaders are so imcompetent that I think they'll not only drive the Bills out of town but somehow get Erie County stuck paying to build the Bills a new stadium in Anaheim, CA. -
God has to have a sense of humor. He created us.

We have become a nation of apologists
SilverNRed replied to dib's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's not my bubble. We don't need a law to explicitly state that English is the language of the United States. Common sense tells us that -

The last two days, the student newspaper here at The University of Texas has printed letters from people who claim that English really isn't "our" language and that the United States shouldn't have "a language." Therefore, no one should have to learn English ever because that would be giving in to the demands of the "white supremecists" in America. -
At least then we know that crashing on a desert island with a monster on it is only the second worst thing that has ever happened to them.

I don't remember exactly how he said it but it was something like:"What am I supposed to do? Call the cops and tell them there's a guy in a butterfly costume shooting a laser at my robot?" The Monarch: "If anyone needs me, I'll be in my room.....cry-ing!"

I definitely thought it was WNY.

Venture Brothers is outstanding. Although it's taking them forever to get a second season made.

They aren't criticizing Family Guy for being lowbrow. They criticizing FG for being stupid, and there's a pretty big difference. People don't remember episodes of Family Guy - they remember the jokes, because the jokes have nothing to do with the plot. Pretty much every episode is: "This is almost as bad as the time _________________ ." (Cut to joke referencing TV show or movie from 1970s or 1980s) Over and over. Which means Family Guy is pretty amusing but the shows have no lifespan. They lose a lot of their appeal the second time you see them (compare that to classic Simpsons or South Park). So I laughed the first time I saw Peter drive the Dolorean from Back to the Future, but when I saw that episode as a re-run, it did nothing for me. Meanwhile, episodes of the Simpsons and South Park develop their jokes over 30 minutes each episode. That's the reason the pay-off in the "Scott Tennorman Must Die" episode of SP was so awesome that we're still laughing about it. That episode will still be funny 5 and 10 years from now. South Park has its fair share of poop jokes, but Family Guy will never come within 200 miles of making a pair of episodes so full of cutting satire as South Park just did.

"That little boy over there is trying to get Family Guy off the air altogether." (Cut to Bart Simpson) I couldn't believe it....but they actually surpassed last week's episode by quite a bit. The Bart Simpson cameo instantly became one of my all-time favorite South Park moments. The manatees with "idea balls" was hilarious. The "What is this so-called First Amendment?" bit was amazing (as was the portrayal of reporters). I even liked the quick nods to King of the Hill, Ice Age and 24 with the FOX posters in the background. Great episode. South Park is better than ever.

Was that an offer?

Horrible, horrible link So I remember back in high school when Britney first showed up and she was really hot. And that was something I guess we all just took for granted. But now, just a few short years later, she's gone all Kirstie Alley on us and went from super hottie to plumpified mom. I feel old. And watching her dance and try to do her thing just makes me sad.

What is it about ILLEGAL aliens
SilverNRed replied to The Merovingian's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Wasn't it obvious? The demonstrations were about....dreams....families.....marching peacefully......um.....dreams.....people....stuff..... Look, that one guy in his car stuck in traffic thought it was amazing, OK? -

Lou Dobbs (of all people) is killing the media over how they're portraying this. Link The local news coverage of a march here in Austin yesterday was pathetic. Their guy/gal on the street might as well have been marching too. They talked about the march like it was the single most amazing accomplishment in the history of earth ("So many people - young, old, different races and backgrounds - coming together...for a dream."). The absolute worst was that the march was downtown around 5pm, which means it screwed up Austin's already-horrible traffic problems at rush hour. When the reporter touched on this, he added "But one Austinite didn't mind one bit" and they cut to some dumbass sitting in his car who said "I think it's great. What a great country." I'm sure they were unable to find anyone who was pissed off at not being able to get home on a Monday because of the protestors. The opinion page of UT's school paper has been demanding that college students protest and "speak out" for weeks now but has yet to offer any actual ideas for fixing the illegal immigration problem (aside from a few vague calls to "stand up for human rights" that barely mean anything). What would be amazing is if the news reports could shut up about all the people and how great it is for a minute or two and actually mention how policy could or should be changing. I know, I know, seeing people walk and wave flags and bring their kids along is hypnotic, but that probably won't fix the fact that there are 12 million people here illegally that we aren't sure what to do with. -

Keifer Sutherland in new 24 deal

If the show ever gets too hard to produce as a gritty action drama, they could easily rework it as a sitcom called "Jack & Chloe!" where the two main characters are roommates who get into all sorts of misadventures and drive each other crazy. "DAMMIT, Chloe! Hurry!" "I'm trying Jack, GOSH!" "We DO NOT have time for this! My boss is going to be here for dinner ANY MINUTE NOW!" "I'm cooking as fast as I can, GEEZ!" Secretary of Defense Heller: "Bau-ERRRRRRRRRR!" At the end of season 2 or 3, they'd finally give in to all the sexual tension and hook up. Then the show would suck for like 5 more years before finally being cancelled. -
I don't know if we're ready for a TV show that shows a man being completely cut in half by a .50 calibur bullet. But when we are ready, I know that FOX will broadcast that TV show. Hell, it may even be a reality show....

I don't think I ever saw the last three episodes from last season so that must have happened pretty late. Beh-ROOOOOOOOZZZZZZ!!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
-
You mean Beh-ROOOOZ? I thought he made it out OK. When did Marwan get his hands on him?

They knew too much. It wouldn't make any sense to let them live. I actually really enjoyed last night's episode. It's cool that Heller is back and THANK GOD the President finally has a backbone (even if he's an evil SOB). I couldn't stand another "I'm the hapless President; tell me what to do!" scene. What's happening next? Looks like more gunfights.
