The Federal government isn't responsible for evacuating cities; local governments are. The whole reason they ordered a mandatory evacuation before Katrina hit was that the city was going to be leveled and getting in to rescue people wasn't going to be easy. This is why you evacuate before the worst happens. And I don't expect the Feds to be responsible for having an evacuation plan for every U.S. city while local officials sit on their hands.

....yeah, good one...... Anyways, I'm not saying that everything every person over the age of 80 says has to be discounted. I'm saying we don't hold them to the same standards we hold younger individuals to and for good reason.

There's video of that online. I'll find it. EDIT: All I could find was the transcript but here it is. EDIT AGAIN: Here's a link with video

Sweeping generalizations can be true - again, in this case just Google it. And I don't even know what Barbara Bush said. I didn't even bother to check because I already know it's irrelevant. She probably did say something ignorant. Who cares? Like I said, I was brought up to look the other way when an elderly person says something ignorant or nutty.

In that case, maybe you should send your parents over to the board to help you guys since you're having such a hard time reading and debating on your own. As a rule of thumb, old people say flakey things and it's OK to look the other way when it happens (hell, it's what you're supposed to do). Ever hear of a "senior moment"? Ever wonder why those happen? What - did you think only your body deteriorates physically as you age? Sorry I had to ruin your day with that small dose of reality (more like common knowledge). Google information on "old age" and the brain if you don't believe me.

Sorry, I shouldn't have taken my frustrations out on The Plastic Cup. I think we can all agree that TPC is here to help all of us get through the hard times. It's just that I'm so mad that the government wasn't using kayaks in New Orleans.

Spent the last couple days watching.

What? You mean we don't have to feel bad about America all the time? Gosh, I thought we were only allowed to feel shame about our country anymore.... Keep up the good work down there, boss. -
Bush uses firefighters for props

No one can honestly make comments about how "right wing nuts" react when the "media tells the truth" because the media hasn't told the truth in so long that basically no one remembers how to act if and when that happens. "Coming up on CNN: We're going to be talking to a UC-Berkeley professor about controversial comments made by ultra-talented rapper, Kanye West. Does President Bush simply not care about black people, as West believes, or does he really dislike them as well? And a little later we'll be interviewing singer and hurricane expert Celine Dion and gage her reaction to the past week's events. Stay tuned. This....is CNN." -

Hitler blasts from her are about par for the course. -
Yeah, well what took you so long? People could have drank ice cold water out of you and you were nowhere to be found! Was it because FEMA wouldn't let you in because they were worried about you starting another riot?

My "simple minded opinions and observations" that are both still apparently over your head? Sorry about the swearing. Hope it didn't hurt your feelings.

The kayak part was funny because when she said it she started to pretend to work the paddle of a kayak. Her arms were flailing the entire time. Two things to love about celebrities: 1. All these ideas they have - they're convinced they're the only ones thinking. Like the people doing the actual rescuing would work faster if someone from Hollywood would just suggest it to them or maybe they haven't considered all their options and singers need to point them out. 2. Why was Celine Dion more emotional than 99.999% of the people in the world about this thing? Why do celebrities get emotional when the rest of us don't? Obviously these people don't think with their brains (or else they wouldn't decide to dedicate their lives to singing or acting or any other job where your chances of succeeding are so small) but that doesn't mean they have to subject us to their melodrama every time they have a feeling.

Having trouble with the quote function? Yeah, I don't hold old people to the same standards as others but I also don't hold former Presidents to the same standard that I hold everyone else. So if Kanye West goes on some crazy anti-Bush rant, it's just some dumbass rapper ruining a charity fundraiser. If a former POTUS or any elected official had said what KW had said, it'd be a much bigger deal.

No. !@#$ing. sh--. That's because the two statements have nothing to do with each other. EII asked why Bush's family always takes up for him and I said in his mom's case it was because, in general, mothers have a tough time leaving well enough alone when it comes to their children. His father has to stay in the public eye because he's a former POTUS. Post #2 in this thread (also by me) is about not caring too much about what old people have to say and definitely not judging people by what their old relatives say. People north of 80 tend to say some flakey things. I stand by both statements and there's nothing contradictory about them. In fact, they have nothing to do with each other. What I find completely unbelievable is that you're posting on a message board when you can't even process the words you're reading on-screen. Get a clue. Seriously, don't reply to this. It's already clear you don't understand what you're reading and your "hilarious" RNC talking points blasts are losing their charm. I tend to get frustrated because it's 2005 and I still meet illiterate people.

No, we'll cut her some slack because she's OLD. I don't hold old people to the same standards that I hold young or middle-aged people. That was my first point in this thread, you !@#$ing moron. Holy sh--, whatever happened to good old fashioned reading comprehension? Keep wasting everyone's time with the "RNC Talking Point" blasts. Very persuasive. EDIT: Here's a LINK to the second post in this thread. Apparently you need to view it again.

Your mom is always your mom. She thinks she's "helping" even when she's really not helping. Dads know how to let go; moms don't, at least in my experience. Bush Sr. has to be involved because he's a former POTUS, and he and Clinton can do a lot of good together.

Honestly, given New Orlean's standards for disaster preparedness, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if their plan included placing tens of thousands of people in a building that was going to collapse and kill them all. "Future plans include.....an excuse as to why that seemed like a good idea at the time."
