  1. People can't grasp the concept that the government is not an all-powerful entity that can solve problems for everyone in less than a day. Carol Moseley Braun was just on CNN complaining that the troops brought in are being too "heavy-handed." So there's no way to get things right, apparently.
  2. After finally seeing it, it's really amazing how incoherent and pathetic he looked. I wonder how many people didn't donate after seeing that. Way to go, dipshit.
  3. All the reporters on the ground are literally having a contest to see who can be the most hysterical and melodramatic on camera. "LOOK HOW UPSET I AM!!!"
  4. I think he is one of the greys.
  5. I doubt cannibalism has taken root there but the stories of dozens, if not hundreds, of rapes in the Superdome aren't much better. And the rest of that guy's slop is incoherent.
  6. Would it be OK if I said that if this had happened in a city populated primarily by white people that there wouldn't be looting, hundreds of rapes, and assaults on police stations? Probably not. Kanye West and people who think like him are part of the problem.
  7. !@#$ "telling you"; he keeps proving it. Over and over and over.
  8. I don't know. Levees really aren't my thing seeing as how I've never lived in a city where my life depended on them. I imagine the people who live in and run NO would or should have some idea though... Here, I'll save you time and post your reply for you:
  9. There's no limit to the stupidity our celebrities will exhibit....
  10. Yeah, but they're all neon orange....
  11. Here and and finally So the closest they were to even having a new levee system design was a study being prepped to begin next year. In other words, they went the cheap route decades ago and nobody was in a hurry to bring things up to speed because it just didn't seem like a problem to Congress. Of course, local leaders should have been well aware of all of this and prepared in the event that a Cat 4/5 storm hit their city with the levees meant for Cat 3 hurricanes.......
  12. I'm not trying to "placate everybody," I'm pointing out that this crap about "Bush diverting money away from NO" is just that - crap. The levees in place functioned exactly as they were supposed to, and that's why they failed. It's not like the city of NO was just on the verge of improvement but couldn't afford it. A levee system that would have protected the city was never even considered. Before you can ask for money to improve the levees, you have to have a plan/proposal for how that would work. They didn't. So there were no plans to ever have a levee system that would have helped in this event. There should have been decades ago but they just kept getting away with not having one (heck, on Monday it looked like they had again) and eventually forgot about it.
  13. For the millionth time, the levee that broke was not in need of repair and there were no plans to upgrade it. It was a design problem, not a funding problem.
  14. If it wasn't for the war in Iraq, New Orleans wouldn't be below sea level, category 4 hurricanes wouldn't exist, and gangs wouldn't be attacking police stations.
  15. Imagine Hurricane Andrew, a Biblical flood, and the L.A. Riots all rolled into one and squared. That's approximately what's going on in New Orleans right now.
  16. And on Monday everyone thought NO had dodged a bullet because Katrina had reduced to Cat 4 and turned east.....
  17. I'll repost this. Many of the locals ARE the problem right now. Then there's this......
  18. Then there's this...... My hometown has never been destroyed with me in it, but I seriously doubt the first thing I'd do if and when that happens is raid a gun store and assault the cops.
  19. According to the mayor of New Orleans, it's ATTACK OF THE DRUG ADDICTS. Link Seriously, this just keeps getting better and better....
  20. End of story. This wasn't a funding problem. It was a design problem.
  21. I'm sad to say I agree.
  22. I love how everyone on the internet thinks they have better ideas for helping than FEMA and that the people in FEMA are just too dumb/lazy to implement anything to help people in NO. Seriously, if there's anything they can do, they're already doing it. For the millionth time, what's happening now is unprecedented.
