There is a lot of paint being mixed together in this thread. To the point that colors are beginning to become unrecognizable. Beane is being given credit for plenty that he did not do. The Bills have had 5 players named All-Pro in the last two seasons and only 2 of the 5 have been a Beane addition.

No. More comprehension issues. One is a statistic, and another is an objective opinion. There is a large difference, no smaller than the Atlantic Ocean. PFF publishing a pass-rush-win-rate percentage is a statistic. A PFF journalist posting a ranking of what they believe to be the best roster, player, etc is an opinion. I used a statistic. You used an opinion. Simmons was an All-Pro last season. Certainly you understand how that would not be possible if he was barely in the top 10 for his position group. Whose consensus? Certainly not CBS, who lists Simmons as the 10th best defensive player (overall, not just at his position group) in the NFL and 31st best OVERALL (including QB's, WR's, etc). Nor the ESPN coaches/executives poll (where they surveyed more than 50 league executives, coaches, scouts and players), in which Simmons was 2nd only to Aaron Donald. “One of the best defenders in football,” an NFL scouting director said. “Game-wrecker,” an AFC scout said. And certainly not by these people, nor myself:

You appear to have the impression that if you use a source for a statistic, you must accept every objective opinion they make. It is not so. You didn't comprehend what I wrote. The point is to isolate the heavily weighted variable.
-
This is pop-warner level commentary, but I suppose it needs to be said. Interior defensive linemen are not ranked on their sacks. Simmons was voted All-Pro and tied Aaron Donald for defensive stops per game at 2.7. As was already published, his pass-rush-win rate was right up there with Donald too. He is amazing. Just because you do not realize how good Simmons is, does not mean that others dont. He was also recently ranked #31 among all NFL players by CBS (that includes QB's, WR's, Kickers etc.) and #10 on defense. Personally, I think that is too low, but still a great number.

In what way? To simply say that something is flawed while providing zero proof of such is not proof of anything. A difference of opinion is not trolling. Its a difference of opinion. He is the architect of part of a successful roster, yes. Our best defensive players were here before Beane was. Hyde, Poyer, Tre, Milano, and Hughes were inherited by Beane. Our best offensive lineman, Dion Dawkins, was also inherited by Beane. That is a lot of talent that was here before Beane ever stepped foot in the building. It's not a scenario, it's an isolation technique. Because the QB heavily influences a teams win/loss percentage (the QB position is heavily weighted), its difficult to evaluate other players with isolating the heavily weighted variable. This is common in science and analytics. Expound on this. I'm not sure what you mean. .

While H2H is not the end-all-be-all, consider that even with Allen (who as you point out is significantly better than Tannehill), we have still lost to that roster twice in a row. The Titans have a very strong roster. Their safeties are as good as ours, their LB's are better, their D-Line is better, their o-line was better, and their RB is better. The Bills have the edge in QB, WR, and perhaps O-Line now (after this offseason). You're attempting to denigrate my knowledge while at the same time comparing sack numbers of a Defensive End and an Interior Lineman. Irony.

Remind me in 6 months. Outside of QB, yes.
-
Sigh. The conversation has devolved to this point.
-
You may be talking about another poster, but to be clear, I never said that. And I definitely did not say that. This whole forum would really benefit from one semester of reading comprehension.
-
Yes. Yes. Top 3. Very underrated by casual fans. Yes it is. Yes they are. Especially with White coming off his injury. Agreed. And O-Line, and D-Line, and CB’s and tied with safeties. The point being that all we have to go on is previous seasons. Guessing on how new players will adapt and affect rosters is silly.
-
Rams have better WR’s (Kupp is top 3 and Robinson is top 10). O-line (one of the best in the NFL though losing Whitworth stings), D-Line (Aaron Donald, do I have to say more?), CB’s (Ramsey and Hill) and LB’s (Leonard Floyd, Bobby Wagner). They really do have a pro bowl roster.
-
RB as you mentioned, O-Line (though this may change with Saffold coming to Buffalo), D-Line (Simmons is the second best defensive player in the league behind Donald). Their safety duo of Hooker and Byard is just as good as ours but significantly younger. Their LB’s are Dupree, Landry and Cunningham. Really good group. There is a reason they have beat us twice. It’s not luck. That’s a stacked roster.
-
By that logic, the current Bills roster has also beaten no-one ever. Therefore this is all conjecture.
-
I dont think youre following the conversation. I'm not just saying it. That roster also beat the Bills, twice
-
Not many on earth would agree that Beane has been average at adding talent outside of the QB position? I dont agree. What other players did you cite? Subtractions?
-
You cited one of the worst WR's in recent Bills memory and had a losing record, and a CB who missed a third of the season.
-
Replace with "quick". Off the top of my head.
-
There is a name for this. Its called 'homerism'. That's literally the point of the exercise. To evaluate rosters sans the QB.
-
He didn't slip. That was always a poor excuse. He hopped (for some reason), and then ran right into Jeffrey Simmons arm. He met a wall. Did the Bills lose to them twice in a row? You too.
-
I mentioned this trade... Did you not read the post? Plus, EJ missed a third of the season and had a grand total of 1 INT. Bills went 4-6 after trading for Benjamin. He had 17 total receptions. None of which helped the 2017 playoff run.
-
Smart choice not answering that.
-
Easy. For one, the Titans. Even WITH Allen, they've beaten the Bills roster twice in a row. Another is the Rams. Who practically have a Pro-Bowl team for a roster. The Buccaneers are another, and the Browns are close (their QB held them back more than helped them). This is a (likely unintentional) strawman. You've misunderstood my point. My point is not that Beane would not have tried for another franchise QB or even chosen another franchise QB, my point is that outside OF the franchise QB (whomever name that may be), his work as talent evaluator has been average. Out of curiosity, do you realize how often you write this? Just curious if its a tick or something. .
-
Here are the noteworthy 2017 additions/negations made after Beane was made GM. - Signed Baccari Rambo (cut a month later) - Signed Anquan Boldin (retired 2 weeks later) - Traded Watkins and Ragland (helped in the Allen trade but did nothing for the 2017 playoffs)
-
That's what I was doing. The reality is that 1 pick (Allen) has saved Beane's career. .
-
No they're not. And your refusal to confront them tells me that you're unsure how they are inaccurate either. Yes it is accurate. And your refusal to confront them tells me that you're not unsure how they are inaccurate either. It is not simply how I analyze. Its how the entire scientific community does. I am old enough and wise enough to know that pre-season prognostications and rankings mean something between "jack" and "crap". .
