Where did Florio spread a rumor? His article said: "The Bills have a decision to make this weekend. Trade him before the salary becomes guaranteed, cut him before it becomes guaranteed, let it become guaranteed and trade him after June 1, or let it become guaranteed (possibly with a restructuring to reduce his cap number) and keep him for another year." He listed all 3 options the Bills could make. Keeping him, trading him, or cutting him. He also gave the details for what would happen if they decided to move on from him. "His $18.5 million salary for 2024 becomes fully guaranteed this weekend. He has a 2024 cap number of $27.854 million. Trading him before June 1 would trigger a cap charge of $31.096 million. The Bills could cut him before the salary becomes guaranteed. If they do it with a post-June 1 designation, the Bills would take a cap charge of $8.849 million this year and $22.247 million in 2025. But, obviously, they’d get nothing for him." Where is the rumor spreading in that? It was all factual information, and acknowledgement that Diggs salary becomes guaranteed this weekend. Are you just making it up? Or are you applying a very low standard to "spreading a rumor" by labeling Florio questions of whether Diggs wants to be on the team and discussing the Bills options as "spreading rumors"?

I understand that you believe yourself to be the boss of others and therefore have the power to tell others what they should or should not do. Unfortunately for you, the remainder of society does agree with that belief. Reality is that you are the boss of only yourself. I know you were responding to someone else, but to be clear I don't want Diggs gone. He is one of my favorite modern Bills ever. That being said, having $24M extra next year in cap space is very tempting. We watched New England give a masterclass in moving on from players a year early, rather than a year late, for close to two decades. It was smart and helped them continue to win. I wouldn't hate Beane if he decided to do the same here. As for Diggs comments, he knows what he is doing. He knows he is stoking the flames. He knows he is causing issues with fans. This is right. And we technically save cap space either way. We would save $19M in cap space this year, and $5M in cap space next year. Mango made the excellent point that we could then roll that $19M savings into next year and open up $24M in cap space for 2025 by cutting or trading him post June 1st. Having $24M more to work with next year is tempting.

I think you're more than likely correct. The other side of this coin though, is keeping him for another season strips most of his value away. We would be trying to trade a receiver about to turn 32 years old next offseason. I dont see it happening. It's likely now or never.

Thats absolutely a good way of looking at it. It would cost us $8.8M in dead cap this year, but we would also save his salary and cap space. Therefore, we would open up nearly $19M of cap space by trading/cutting him post June 1st.

Post June 1... we would have a $8.9M hit this year and $22M hit next year.

Beane and McD had four years to get some more help on offense and they sat on their hands. And no, bringing in the corpse of Emmanuel Sanders and signing Andy Isabella to the practice squad is not what I mean by brining help to the offense. There was just so little investment in the offense after the Diggs trade went down. And I don't just mean at the WR position We picked two defense players (Kaiir Elam and Carlos Basham Jr) over stud linemen. And this isn't hindsight stuff - many of us really wnated these linemen AS THE PICKS WERE HAPPENING. A few examples: A couple picks after we picked Basham, the Chiefs selected Creed Humphrey (who many of us were banging our hands on the table for during our pick). He is now the best Center in the NFL. One pick after we took Elam, the Cowboys took Tyler Smith (their Pro Bowl Guard). Two picks after Elam, the Ravens took Tyler Linderbaum, who is considered the second or third best Center after Humphrey. Just seems like weren't even trying on offense. "Just let Josh figure it out" seems to be the motto.

This isn't a fair comparison because much of Diggs production last year was due to him being thrown the ball A LOT more than those rookies you mentioned. We force feed Diggs the ball. In fact, Diggs had 50+ more targets than all of them. Targets Diggs: 160 targets Addison: 108 targets Flowers: 108 targets Smith-Njigba: 93 targets Receptions per target Diggs: 0.67 receptions per target Addison: 0.65 receptions per target Flowers: 0.71 receptions per target Johnson: 0.68 receptions per target Yards per target Diggs: 7.4 yards per target Addison: 8.4 yards per target Flowers: 7.9 yards per target Smith-Njigba: 6.75 yards per target Summary: Diggs was second to last among the rookies listed above for receptions per target, and yards per target. A hypothesis could be made that if these receivers had the same share of targets that Diggs receives, not to mention the QB that Diggs has throwing him the ball, they would have had superior seasons. And doesn't even take into consideration that Addison played half the year with a mashup of QB's including Nick Mullins, Josh Dobbs, and Jaren Hall. Or that Smith-Njigba played the last third of the season with a mix of Drew Lock, or Geno Smith with a bad back injury. The situation looks a bit more bleak when you look at the second half of the seasons as well. Diggs last 8 games 63 targets, 37 receptions (59% catch rate), 349 yards, 1 TD Smith-Njigba last 8 games 45 targets, 30 receptions (67% catch rate), 303 yards, 3 TD's. Flowers last 8 games 40 targets, 27 receptions (68% catch rate), 313 yards, 4 TD's. Addison last 8 games 49 targets, 29 receptions, (59% catch rate), 377 yards, 3 TD's. Summary: Over the last 8 games of the season, Diggs was outproduced by all of the rookie WRs mentioned. And this happened despite Addison having Nick Mullins, Josh Dobbs and Jaren Hall as their QB's. And Smith-Njigba having Drew Lock and an injured Geno Smith. Addison had his best stretch of the season when Jefferson was out with a hamstring injury. I know this because I had Jefferson as a FF player and it was frustrating watching Addison feast.

I can understand your viewpoint, but I disagree that there is not a big drop-off from a top 5 backup to a top 20 backup. For example: - The Steelers were 7-3 when Pickett started and finished the game last season. He had wins over playoff teams such as Baltimore, Cleveland and the Rams. He threw for over 200 yards in 60% of his games. - They were 0-3 with Trubisky starting. All of those losses came against non-playoff teams. He threw for over 200 yards in 0% of his games. One is our backup QB. The other is Philly's.

You may be right. But there sure is a crap ton of smoke regardless. If this is really just a lot of people making up fake stories (like Stef calling a Texans WR to ask about the organization), I dont know what is the benefit for such a story. The same tweeter who said this, also said that Snell will be an Astro (and had a text screenshot from an insider). So If that ends up happening, then i'll give him some credibility.

The future money, yes. But not the past money. And past money includes his deals we restructured and pushed that money into the future. Which is why I am SO against constantly restructuring deals and why I told everyone who would listen that the Bills wont be restructuring Diggs deal this season (because it would tie their hands to him for more years).

Great question and really difficult to quantify. In his prime, there are only a handful of defenders (all-time) id take over him. Very few players could take over games like could. Even when was think of today's very good players, how many really take over a game? Not many. Donald did that. A lot. And in key moments.

I disagree. I think he is. In fact I think he instantly becomes a top 5 backup in the NFL, which is very valuable. Howie Roseman is one of the greatest GM's in the history of the NFL and I think this is another very solid move by him. I think Howie is also counting on drafting very low, which makes this closer to a 4th round pick.

I should have been more clear - I was talking about contested catch rate. Because contested catches is what Gabe really struggled with. If anyone touched him in any way, he would drop it. Samuel is similar. He has a 45% career contested catch rate. Gabe is 42%. For comparison sake, Diggs is 13 percentage points higher.

His contested catch percentage is only a few points higher than Gabe, unfortunately. We really need a better WR. Hopefully the draft brings us one.
