Yeah, it just sort of lucked out with us both being bachelors, being long-time friends, and the Bills being this good, no matter what it would be fun.

Yeah, it’s definitely going to be fun.

You do realize that if the Bills win the Super Bowl this year that you’ll have to do this every year. 🤣😜

So a buddy and myself have been kicking around the idea of renting a house in Buffalo for the season, I work remotely and he's a traveling doctor. I'm usually in Buffalo a few times per year for games, we're renting from August to February.

I was hoping I could get some suggestions on things to check out in the area, sightseeing, things going on, etc, between August and February, I know after November December it becomes a lot less likely to do as much outdoors, but wanted to hear some local feedback. I've done Niagara, Letchworth, and many of the local Buffalo parks, but was hoping to hear and visit some things I haven't heard much or anything about. Any suggestions are much appreciated! Go Bills! 🙏

We have a house already there and have season tickets, looking for suggestions of things to check out outside of those things.. including food recs. I haven't tried Bar Bill but have had Duff's, the mac and cheese place near Batavia, love all types of food so.

Very cool that you’re able to do this. Depending on where my kids end up living someday, my wife and I might end up getting a fall home in upstate New York to be able to enjoy the fall and go to Bills games.

Definitely try Abbot’s Pizza. Also, it’s just nice to drive 20 and 20A to experience all the different towns on that route. It could definitely be a nice day or weekend trip.

The 619er, I’m just relaying the message the guys purported what is most likely and they have been right more than wrong.  They stated, not me, that a new deal will come with the next CBA, and I believe that is 2032.  They stated the most likely scenario is we get an 18th game with two byes with that negotiation.  You read the other stuff on reducing preseason, etc.

good to hear from you too.  I was in witness protection for awhile with work.

Bummer, I was really hoping that we’d get an 18th game within three or so years. If 2032 is true that’s another decade away and most likely towards the end of JA’s career. 18 games a year (regular season) of J frickin A would be awesome. Thanks for clarifying though, bro!

Glad you’re out of witness protection. I’m sure that was an experience.

Make it fair to all teams. If it is an 18 game season with 2 bye weeks, just make week 7 and 14 byes for the entire league. Play 6 games, get a bye, play 6 games, get a bye, play 6 games - playoffs or go home.

This would eliminate the disadvantage of playing a team coming off a bye, and balance the scales a little bit so teams aren't getting stuck with a bye in week 4 after just 3 games played.

I love your idea, but I don’t think the NFL will go for it.

They’re going to want to have games be played every week instead of having corporate bye weeks.

I haven’t read you’re article yet, but this was tried in 1993.  The owners didn’t like it, but was collectively bargained with the first free agency.

They discussed this interview on MTC last week.  Kirwan stated he was in Mgmt for the Jets during that time.  Those two guys purported it most likely won’t happen until the next CBA which I thought they referenced 2032.

Pat’s position is this is inevitable in the next CBA, they will push hard for an 18 game season, and their concession will be two bye weeks, and they will be dropping

It was an interesting premise, and as you guys who listen to the show in the afternoons, they bring up very interesting topics and usually prior to the show do some prep work on these topics.

They convinced me this will happen.  It’s one more way the league can negotiate for more streaming options, and even higher TV contracts.  The owners will only hear the following this…

     Never gets old.

This will be Rog Goodell in his NYC office with all his minions around evil laughing.

Nice to hear from you, MGK.

Clarification question on your comment about the 2032 CBA. Did you mean that we won’t have an 18th game until then, that we won’t have a second bye until then or both? I hope it’s not until 2032 as I was really looking forward to going to an 18th game sooner.

    Thanks for clarifying, bro!

Putting aside the bad call, the Bills should have never been in that position.  The game was in hand with 16 secondsleft. Why would you kick it short and allow them to return it? HUGE coaching error.

Everyone knows you kick it away so they have to drive all the way down field!

    🙃

    Dean, shh!

You don’t want to make the 13 second crowd mad by showing that bad things can happen whether you kick it short or in the end zone. 🤣😜

They gave up a lot to make all those moves, Specifically, Patrick Maholmes.  The GM didn’t magically get 2 first round picks.  They had 2 picks in the first bc of the trade down the year before.  They gave up a starting LT, to move up a few spots in the first, pre-draft, and packaged a lot of picks to get where they wanted to go from there. The key part was the trade down the year before, which was not Beane.  Had they stayed put and drafted Maholmes, they could have used all those picks to build a better team around him, but nobody wants to face that fact.

We have one of the best built teams in the entire NFL.

2018 was a great draft.  If Harrison Phillips stayed healthy, it probably would have been a phenomenal draft.

2017 was a really good draft too.  3 starters -White, Dawkins, and Milano.  The other picks are still in the league.  Jones (Jaguars), Peterman (Bears) and Vallego (Cards).  McD did well for a guy walking into a bleeping mess.

Speaking of messes, here's the 2016 draft:

    RoundPickPlayerPositionCollegeNotes

1 19 Shaq Lawson DE Clemson

2 41 Reggie Ragland LB Alabama Pick from CHI

3 80 Adolphus Washington DE Ohio State

4 139 Cardale Jones QB Ohio StCompensatory

5 156 Jonathan Williams RB Arkansas

6 192 Kolby Listenbee WR TCU

    6 218 Kevon Seymour

    Wow, what a stark difference!

  9. Obviously JA all the way.

But, look at everybody else we drafted in 2018. Because the consistent focus of that draft is JA, I forgot that we drafted some of the following solid players listed below in that year:

-Tremaine Edmunds (still solid even if he gets maligned on here at times)

-Harrison Phillips (on the Vikings now)

-Taron Johnson (most defensive stops for a CB since 2020)

    -Siran Neal

    -Wyatt Teller (traded but solid)

Man, what a solid draft for the Bills.

He's number 2 on my list.

    Only behind Tyreek Hill

I think he’s better than Tyreek Hill.

Don’t get me wrong, Tyreek Hill is good. That said, once his speed starts to decline with age, he doesn’t have the route running and pass catching ability that Diggs has. Not even close.

I'm always impressed with the mentality these guys have. Dude won a Super Bowl 4mos ago, and is just as hungry as he was as a rookie, maybe more so.

How many regular adults would hit their life goal, and be ready to chase it like that again AT ALL... let alone in that short time frame.

Unreal athletes, but these guys mentality is the most impressive trait to me

    Great point.

it really does take a next level type of person to keep staying motivated once they’re on or have been on the top.

do you think theres a chance that the bills will be the new thanksgiving team? theyve been featured in three of the past four (including this one). doubtful, but it would be cool to have a home bills game in the evening of thanksgiving after dallas. it would be a nice new tradition the nfl could fall into

It seems by chance at this point. They just happened to be playing Dallas and they just happened to be playing Detroit. Of course, they didn’t have to put them as Thanksgiving day games. So, it could be a sign.

All three thanksgiving games have been on the road. So, a Buffalo home thanksgiving day game hasn’t been established.

Also, I think they want to keep the third game fresh since they already have two traditional games already.

Who knows though. It’s just a guess on my part.

  13. Let me start off by saying that I love Gabe Davis. I think he’s a good threat for our offense.

The article got me thinking though and I wonder what my fellow bills mafia thinks.

Do you think Gabe is up for the challenge of being a #2WR?

Or, was he a better suited for that #3 or #4 WR role where he just dominates? Having Cole and Emmanuel out on the field definitely didn’t hurt.

    Thoughts?

Here’s the article if you want to read it.

  14. I know some may say it’s just pennies to these players but it’s a pretty cool gesture that Bills players stepped up to pay for one of the victim’s funeral expenses.

    Way to go!

I hear you, but it's not a matter of "just being a playoff team every year and nothing more."  It's a carefully determined strategy that is based on the belief that the highest probability of winning the Super Bowl in the next ten years comes from being in the playoffs most or all of the time, as compared to planning on, and focusing all of your resources on, WINNING the Super Bowl in one year.  As I've said, it's obviously not either/or, but I think the strategy that gets you to the playoffs every year is a better way to win Super Bowls.   To win the Super Bowl you have to win four straight games (three if you get the bye).   The McBeane strategy, as I understand it, is that if we're in the playoffs a lot, we have a lot of chances to win four straight.   If we're only in two or three times over ten years, even if our team is better, we don't get many chances to win four straight.

I mean, I don't know.   But isn't about being satisfied with making the playoffs.   It's about the fact that every time you're in the playoffs, you have a chance to win it all.

    Great, clarifying thoughts, Shaw.

Being in the playoffs year in and year out does increase our chances of winning Super Bowls.

Hopefully that happens this year. Let’s be the seventh. Go Bills!
