Lawrence was a rookie, not a third year QB. Coaching absolutely matters, and I'm not sure Herbert has the best coaching, as you say. But until that point, this guy is entering his 4th year as a QB, with 1 playoff appearance (and resulting in one of the biggest playoff chokes in NFL history). For comparison, Joey B went to the Superbowl year two, Mahomes AFCCG year two and Superbowl year three, Allen went to the AFCCG year 3. Herbert ain't there. And I won't continue to pretend he's close until he is.

When he scrambled out of two sacks and got two dump offs for TD's were impressive plays by a rookie. My take is that yes, Brock is probably on the best team in the NFL as a rookie QB. And also that his accuracy, poise and command of the pocket are extremely impressive for pick #241 or whatever he is. IMO, the Brocketship has a higher trade value than any rookie or 2nd year QB not named Trevor Lawrence.

This needs to be the end of including Herbert in the same conversation as Allen, Mahomes and even Burrow. He’s a good kid and a good QB but we can’t pretend he’s on the level of those other dudes.

We traded for AB. He said I'd rather retire. We tried to trade for Diggs in 19. He told his agent no way am I going to Buffalo. Davante didn't want to go to the Ravens. He was never going to go there. 2. Greg Roman is legitimately the best OC in the NFL for a player of Lamar's skillset. He made Tyrod and Kaep look like starting QBs in the NFL. Have you seen what they've done without Roman? Somehow, Roman got a terrible rap because Tyrod sucked. That's one way to look at it. The other way to look at it is that some dude who isn't even that good of a WR wanted to be anywhere but Baltimore as the #1 WR in a contract year. If you were Gabe Davis, the Ravens would be slightly more appealing than maybe Carolina and Atlanta as an FA. That's a huge deal. Even Diggs didn't want to come to Buffalo until AFTER 2019. AB straight up said I'd retire rather than go there.

Let's do a playoff WR draft check. Since 2019, when Lamar was the "guy," the Ravens have drafted 2 first round WR's. Let's look at the rest of the playoff teams. The Bills have drafted zero. The Chiefs drafted zero. The Bengals drafted 1 first round WR. The Vikings drafted 1 first round WR. The Eagles drafted 2 first round WR's. The 49ers drafted 1 first round WR. The Dolphins drafted 1 first round WR. How many of those dudes demanded a trade? 1. Do you think it's POSSIBLE that, yes, the Ravens do not have the best WR group in the NFL and ALSO that LJ is a reason for that as well? We don't talk about it but the Bills got sneaky lucky that he was banged up in 2020 and battling that hamstring. Probably drove down his value a decent bit and he returned to form just after that year.
