I'll bite. Josh has been at his best when they get him in rhythm early, and he has multiple quality receiving targets capable of getting open in the intermediate range of the field. You can watch highlights of his 2020 season, he is not launching bombs every game. Were they there sometimes? Yes. But he made his money with Diggs-to-Beasley progression on 12 to 18 yard throws. This is illustrated by his 2020 and 2021 seasons where his intended air yards/target were the two lowest of his career. And in 2020, playing in the intermediate range, his on-target percentage was the best of his career. Once Beasley fell off a cliff in 2021, Diggs was used more in the slot, and there hasn't been the two man game that made Josh so deadly in 2020 since. Gabe Davis was the inconsistent bomb deep threat you are looking for, and he was not a reliable target. Then the IOL and Dorsey were both disasters in 2022 and Josh slipped back into his old tendencies a bit as his WR group got worse every year. In summation, attacking the intermediate-middle of field is where most great QB's make their money. Josh used to be able to do that with an elite outside WR and a near elite slot WR. Just like Mahomes did with his elite outside WR and his elite slot/TE at a higher level (outside of that blistering bombs away 2018 season). If Josh gets those kind of weapons again, and an OC that doesn't get completely figured out by week 10 and not have a counter-punch, he will cruise again. The question that needs to be asked is, "how much influence does Joe Brady have today?" The answer, imo, is very little. Beane and McD are running the show. I have no doubts McD and Daboll butted heads over certain things which explains their chilly relationship, but I think he had a voice. I think Brady is closer to a sycophant when it comes to the big decisions.

Exactly my point. If you want to get past the modern dynasty, being the third or fourth best GM with significant weaknesses is NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

I think a trade up was probably unrealistic. Coleman wasn’t my favorite either but whatever. I would’ve drafted another in the mid rounds.

I don’t think it’s a 1:1 when talking about TE’s or RB’s vs WR’s. Running backs are a proven bad investment with day 2 picks. That’s a terrible use of resources. Even TE’s are bad investments in the first. Brandon Beane has spent way more draft capital on TE’s and RB’s than WR’s in the last 4 seasons. That’s Stone Age strategy. The economy of the WR in the NFL has been exploding. RB’s are struggling to get signed to second contracts. That’s exactly the kind of thinking I’m talking about that’s a total fatal flaw. It’s like prioritizing OG’s over OT’s in the draft.

Cooper Kupp was a solid WR for years and then exploded as a triple crown winner with Stafford at QB. Then he battled some injuries and they brought in Nakua and he did great. thats a far different situation than adding Coleman and Samuel to Shakir. KC’s offense has been fine because Mahomes is great, but their offense is far less potent since trading Hill. Conversely, Miami’s offense exploded after adding Hill to pair with Waddle. It’s the talent. And we don’t have much proof we have it. Which was the point.

Mahomes is a better QB than Allen and Reid is a better coach than McD. Veach has struggled to replace the offensive weapons around Mahomes after the Hill trade but he has tried. He recognizes the problem and is trying to fix it. As we all know, no GM is perfect. Of course, he also built a great OL and a great defense as a consolation prize. Beane hasn’t recognized that problem. I would infinitely prefer him trying and failing to not recognizing it. That’s the true fatal flaw, imo.

We do agree that they have been a top 3 team, we don’t agree who deserves the lion’s share of that credit. I just think BB has some fatal flaws that will ultimately cost us in the end.

Brandon Beane got the most important position right. He knocked it out of the park. It’s the rest of his body of work I take issue with. There was once a young GM in Indianapolis. He nailed his QB pick and had 3 straight seasons of 11 wins and playoff runs. They had some bad injury luck, failed to build around their QB (leading to his retirement) and that GM was fired. During his tenure, they were fifth in total wins in the NFL. Was he a truly top 5 GM in those days? Do we look back at Ryan Grigson and say man, that guy was great? No, of course not. Are we going to look back at the first 7 years of Josh’s career 10 years from now and talk about how great of a job everyone around him did? I don’t think so.

I actually think McD is a top 10 coach for what it’s worth. I just think Beane (and McD) are far too secure in their jobs. They won’t get fired ever because Josh Allen will drag this team to WC weekend regardless of what ST bums they out around him. And folks will watch Allen rush for 20 TD’s and end his career prematurely and say Beane is doing great because we have the 4th best record. Kind of a crappy situation imo.

i guess that’s one way to look at it. Then again, our FO valued Deonte Harty and Trent Sherfield last off-season so maybe an appeal to Bill authority isn’t the most convincing argument when it comes to WR e v a l. No, they don’t. Anyway, Josh Allen is very good at football. It makes me sad watching him throw passes that go through Trent Sherfield’s hands in playoff losses. If you consider those very good accomplishments instead, more power to you.

When Puka Nacua joined the Rams, Cooper Kupp already had a 1900 yard season in the NFL and a SB MVP. When Sam LaPorta joined the Lions, St. Brown had over 2k yards and 11 TD’s through two seasons. When Rice joined the Chiefs, Travis Kelce was already a surefire HoFer, a two time champion, and probably the best TE of all time. When Keon Coleman joined the Bills, Shakir had 611 yards and 2 TD’s. Curtis Samuel also was coming off 600+ yards. Kincaid was coming off 600+ yards. are we getting punk’d?
