My guess is that you haven’t watched much game film last 2 years?

I was one of the many who couldn’t understand how Vlad was ahead of Miller in preseason, and then I focused on Miller on replays, and didn’t question the decision anymore.  Miller has been awful in the last two seasons

I watched plenty. None of them are even average but Miller was the best last year.  Teller was the worst but he needed to play after they were eliminated. Miller didnt even dress for most games in 2017 so obviously you didnt watch much game film. Castillo chose Ducasse over Miller, but Miller was a better player than Ducasse in 2018. Not by much but still better.

I will be honest I didnt watch Spencer Long with the Jets but everything Iread said he was garabge as a center and only marginally better as a guard.

Eh, I assume Zay will still be a starter as well, but certainly we'll see how the competition shakes out.

Zay is most likley not going to get out of training camp if he makes it that far. My hunch is he is traded for a 2020 6th round pick

McD got us to the playoffs getting the most out of some bush league squad inherited from Rex Ryan. If anything, he gets his players to overachieve if anything.

McD started Peterman and played for a tie in OT. He shipped guys out instead of coaching them.  He doesn’t get a pass on anything. He needs to show he can coach this year and do it without Kyle around.

Are you seriously comparing those guys to the talent we’ve brought in this year

No  I think he was comparing the activity. Which is pretty obvious given the thread it is posted in.

The activity is about the same in terms of numbers signed, the quality seems better, but the overspending is in line with last year as well.

However who cares if they overspend if they produce? They will still have enough cap room next year, Shady will be off the books, and I think only Dawkins will be on a rookie contract that needs to be renegotiated.

Now if they produce as poorly as Murphy, Bodine, Ivory, and McCarron did then we are screwed for 2019 and probably 2020.

  5. Beane is overpaying with almost every deal. But he seems to be structuring them in reasonable ways to get out of the deals. Much better day 2.

At this point, they need to draft TE and DL in round 1 or 2. All that nonsense of not drafting for need is out the window now.

How to fix the offense?  Sign the best center 3 other above average Oineman on reasonable deals.  A couple niche Wrs and TE.  They got a big contract left.  Where do they go?

Morse isn't even close to the best center in the league. Not even top 10. But he is young, a major upgrade over last year, and probably better than Wood in his final two years with the Bills.

That and he is still a very good RB.......one of the best in the NFL after contact........tremendous pass protector.......nifty in the passing game.........he's good.........fans gonna' love him.

4.6 YPC is 1.4 more than Ivory last year.  At least when Gore runs hard he makes productive yards. Ivory just looks like he is running hard.

  7. It's 2018 off-season all over again only worse.  $2M for a 35 year old RB.  Made the 13th ranked center in the league, the highest paid.  At least he is only 26, but he is not even an average run blocker for one of the best offensive minded coaches in the NFL.  Added an injured - his foot no less - blocking TE and paid him near solid starting money.  Remember all you posters that ran Sammy out of town because of his injured foot.

These moves are an absolute joke.  He tanked a full season for the 13th ranked center in the league.  I stated I would be open minded and I realize there are still moves to be made.

But right now, the starting OL looks like Dawkins, Teller, Morse, Long, and a rookie and will be blocking for the oldest and most overpaid group of running backs ever assembled on one team.  And I love Shady.  Who the hell pays $2M for a 35 year old RB????

For just a moment ask yourself is this what I imagined the off-season would be while watching the Bills being eliminated from the playoffs in 2018 before Halloween???

I noticed some folks laughed at the OP, but never posted to tell us who was a better GM. Did I miss something?

I think the point is, how can you rate him as a GM after one draft and one off-season.

One poster put it perfectly.  He is the best GM they have ever had at tearing down a team that made the playoffs.  Now we will find out if he can build one.

We cant sign any offensive line guys so we settle and re-sign Miller and Mills. Then we reach to fill a hole by drafting Jonah Williams at 9.

Miller and Mills on the cheap would not be so bad. Still draft OT to compete. Gives them the opportunity to move Dawkins to LG. Still need to find a center though.

It's really strange. I don't want cap space. I want talent.

Don't be so silly. Cap space defends WRs. Those moron Patriots signed Gilmore and used up all that cap space for the best DB in the league in 2018. But he wasn't good enough for McD. Good thing Peterman was the cheapest starting QB in the league. That will show those cap experts how to field a team.

  11. No one was worse than Levy.

As for Beane, so far he gets a C-. He created the salary cap situation and admitted he did not put a competitive team together for 2018.  I liked the KB trade at the time but in the end it was awful. Free agency last year was mostly a fail. He drafted for need in 2018 giving away multiple picks and players to do it. He drafted Edmunds when DROY fell to second round.  UDFA picks look great so far.

But none of the above matters. Only Allen matters. Beane took his shot and now he has to live with it. If Allen progresses and they add pieces around him then a lost 2018 season will be worth it.  If Allen regresses and the team is below .500 next year then he should be fired.

  12. This is a good example of why our expectations for this off-season need to be tempered. There is so much cap room collectively. Teams can spend stupid money to get even marginal players.

I would be ok with "overspending" or setting the market for Paradis.

For other positions, they will have to try and find some value. Bringing back Miller on a reasonable contract could be an option.

TE is going to have to be through the draft. They need to trade out of the #9 spot and get another day 2 pick.

    Two things..

It’s fine to say he hasn’t shown anything... but what did we really expect him to show in his initial year? He is a 5th round OL pick.. some of them don’t make it past the taxi squad as a rookie..

He beat out Ducasse for the starting role... no real achievement in itself but it tells me what the coaching staff think of his potential..

Second - I am not anointing him as a starter in 2019... he will need to earn it..like every other player..

They have bought in Long and I have no doubt they will bring in another more expensive free agent or a Top 50 pick..

Lets wait and we what happens, but I’m not sure what he was supposed to be in his first season as pick 166..

I'm not sure he actually beat out Ducasse.  That is kind of my point in terms of evaluating his play on the field.  Teller played because the season was lost, not because he was playing better than Ducasse.  There was no reason to play Ducasse at that point and they wanted to see what Teller had. And for a late round pick, he showed enough that the staff may decide to go with him at LG. Like I said, that would be a very cheap starter on the OL and afford them the chance to spend more in FA on the OL, TE, and/or WR position.

My best guess is Teller is the starter at LG, and they sign a C and RG in FA to start and draft an OT.  But that is just a guess.   That is not what i would do, but i think it is what McBeane will do

Interesting concept that some people may not understand...

5th round picks can improve particularly when they have had some starting experience in their rookie year..

Anyone familiar with one of our players called Matt Milano?

I don't think anyone on this board has said he could not improve.  But what most are saying, is what he has shown so far does not make him a sure bet to be a starter next year.  Evaluating his on the field play is not the same as projecting if he will get better.  He was mostly bad as a starter last year but had some good moments in the run game.  No one on this board is qualified to project if he will get better.  Hell I doubt the coaching staff is qualified at that either.  But I think it is fair to say he did enough that he will be given an opportunity to compete for a roster spot and maybe even a staring spot.  He would be a cheap starter for a few years and allow them to spend more money on a first round OT draft pick and a FA C or G.

  15. The only aspect of him that was good last year was the fact he was an unknown and might get better.  His play was no better and in fact often worse than Ducasse.  He was overmatched in pass protection most of the time.  Ducasse and Miller were the better players last year but Ducasse is never going to get any better(in fact he will likely regress with age). Teller however may get better.  I saw nothing from him that would say he even has a guaranteed roster spot and certainly not a guaranteed spot on the starting OL.

My Plan A for the OL would be, bring back Mills at RT and Miller at RG, sign Paradis for C, move Dawkins to LG, draft OT in first round after trading down a few spots, take C/G in the third round, cut Bodine and let Groy walk, Teller, Long, and some other OT to be a swing back-up.

My Plan A.1, basically similar only Mills and/or Miller are replaced with reasonably priced veterans.

My Plan B : Sign Pardia, bring back Miller, keep Dawkins at LT, Teller at LG, draft OT in the first round to play RT again after dropping back a few slots, draft another G in the 4-5th round, let Mills and Groy walk, cut Bodine, and find a swing OT somewhere
