  1. Top priority at this point is to add another middle linebacker. After Edmunds there is not another guy on the roster that would make another NFL team.

Adding another pass rushing DE or edge guy would be second. Of course that depends alot on PED Murphy's health.

I get your line of thought but on average you can roll over 10% of your cap every single year without penalty.    More some years, less others, doesn't matter........the rule is 90% has to be spent over a given time period so 10% is always free to roll.

So $6M saved this year can be spent two years from now when the team might be looking to extend Josh Allen.........or 5 years from now.   It's not necessarily about the next offseason.

At some point if your team gets good you will need cap room to sustain it.    It would be great to win the SB as the youngest team in the entire league like Seattle did.....but it's insane that 2 offseason later they had to dismantle the team because of salary cap.    I mean they were the YOUNGEST TEAM in the entire league.......that kind of situation is avoidable but there isn't room for carelessness with the cap.

As for the individual players.........it's reasonable to project White and Edmunds as potential $15M-$17M players if they were matured to ceiling and FA's right now..........that's what those positions have recently paid...........so a few years down the line that's probably closer to $20M.    Top QB's are $35M now so Allen will probably be in the $40M range if he turns into a franchise QB.    If it's a reach it's not a very large one.

I agree all those guys in an ideal world would get paid because they are worth keeping. Agree it makes sense to roll over as much money as they can. My only point is they won't get paid in 2020.  And Shady makes the team better in 2019.

And for the record, I really like the Gore signing. I hated the Ivory signing because he was in decline for years. Gore has been productive.

If the line gels quickly, then this backfield can be great.

  3. Nearly the same as mine except he keeps 3 QB, i keep Bodine over Feliciano, and he adds a couple of throw ins at DE and LB that I dont think are currently on the team.

And I gave you mine for free!!!!

I expect Beane to be active in signing 2-3 cap casualties and one-year "prove it" FAs to round out the roster.   So the 53 is still fluid in my mind...

Guys on the bubble would be DiMarco, Fisher, Yarbrough, Harold.

Im with you. Yarborough and Harold are just placeholders. It will come down to Fisher and the 7th round guy for the 4th TE. I would cut DiMarco and keep an extra DB but I don't think McDermott will.

    Why?

Gore had a clearly better season than McCoy last year.

Gore has more than 4K more career rushing yards than McCoy.

His style is more conducive to keeping the offense "on schedule".

He's also more reliable having made 126 straight starts dating back to 2010 prior to missing the last two games of last season with a foot sprain.

He's a HOF'er whether casual NFL fans(aka most Bills fans) know it or not.

Cap dollars can be rolled over.     Presumably soon some of the Bills young players will actually be good and start getting $20M per year contracts.  You can start extending first contracts after 3 years.     If Allen is a stud he will get $40M per at the end of his rookie deal.    When you start having multiple players that eat up 10% of your cap room then money not wasted before matters.

That’s a bit of a reach. Dawkins is the only player of note up for a new contract extension as he would be entering his final year. I guess you can include Milano too. Hyde, Poyer, White, Allen, and Edmunds are all under contract until 2021 or beyond. None of them will get extensions next year.

So Feliciano doesnt make the team?  Bodine over him when Feliciano can play multiple positions?

I think Bodine is a gonner

I think Bodine is a low end starting caliber center. I think Feliciano is a backup G/C at best and Ford and Long are better options at G. Just my opinion.

I think Gore and Singletary will end up 1A and 1B. Yeldon will be last on the depth chart. I don't see Shady sticking around, I know my opinion pisses people off and I'm sorry about that, but the writing is on the wall. Shady is making way too much for what he does. Gore, Singletary and Yeldon is a effing nice stable of horses and cost less than Shady combined.

They are still millions under the cap this year and next. What difference does salary make?

There is a case to be made that last year Ivory was more effective than McCoy because he hit the hole faster and harder while McCoy did a lot of dancing.  Gore (assuming he doesn't lose a step at his age) was also quite a bit better at that last year than McCoy.  As we can all agree, a big part of the problem was the OL and the upgrades there alone are a good reason to believe McCoy can have a bounce back season.

But its not out of the question that if Gore is hitting the hole clean and getting through it and McCoy has still got happy feet behind the line and losing yards or gaining to few and leaving missed opportunities on tape that Gore could win the week 1 starting role.

I still think McCoy is the favorite to be the week 1 starter though.  The bigger wildcard is Devin.  I have a feeling he is going to get a lot of time against 2's and 3's and will have a strong preseason because of it, putting pressure to get him more reps in the first unit.  If Devin starts fast, its going to be hard to keep him off the field, and with McCoy, Gore, and now Yeldon ahead of him to start camp, it won't surprise me to see one of them cut/traded to make room for Devin in the rotation.

Actually there isn't a case for that at all. Ivory smashed into the back of guards repeatedly for little to no gain. While that looks like he is running hard and giving great effort, it still doesn't produce any results. Shady was never that type of back in his career and it is folly to expect him to be any different.

Beane and McDermott (still keeping my promise) have shown through their actions just the opposite - cutting Ivory and completely rebuilding the line. Gore is a great back to have around for Allen. Yeldon should help in the pass game.  I think Singletary was a waste of a pick but he is young and may provide some elusiveness that Gore and Yeldon won't.  I would have chosen TE and WR in third round instead of RB. But going with Singletary now gives the organization a year to evaluate him prior to the 2020 draft.

  8. Barring injury there is no reasonable scenario that any of the backs beat out Shady for the starting role.

I just don't understand the anti-McCoy sentiment around here. They have literally changed 4 of the 5 OL and the TE. Shady was a good teammate taking the blame for his lack of production but the line was the worst in the NFL.

Competition is great and Shady will respond positively. He wants to make HOF and he knows he needs 2500 yards or so make it. That means at least three good seasons of production.

I suspect by week 6, they will announce Shady has signed a two year extension.

No way Bodine makes this team, Feliciano and Long have C experience and could fill in there if needed.

He was capable last year. Arguably second best OL. He was far better than Groy.

And he would be in final year of his deal meaning if he left as FA next year it would be a net loss in free agents for comp picks.

Laughable ideas I know. Again I would try to trade him. Actually surprised he wasn't moved ahead of the draft with the signings you mentioned. Perhaps they just hold on to him until camp injuries start to occur league wide.

I doubt Duke Williams makes the team. I doubt we go with only 2 QB's. I doubt Bodine or Fisher make the team.

It's also strange to include players that are not even on the roster yet, like Ansah. There is no indication, as of right now, that he will be signed.

Why is it strange?  Happens every year. Guys get cut during camp and sign elsewhere. The punter was a Patriot this time last year and J. Phillips was a Dolphin. If not Ansah then they will add another front 7 player. Could be an OLB and play Lorax exclusively at DE.

The backup MLB spot is wide open and I don't think anyone on the roster currently is a capable back-up. But as others have pointed it is impossible to have quality depth everywhere.

I think you are sleeping on Feliciano. He is a solid player, nasty and aggressive. I can easily see him starting and for sure being a solid back and G/C. I don’t think Teller is on the 53 roster. PS at best.

That is where I was a month ago and it is very possible. I think Ford and Long battle for starting spot opposite Spain. I was very down on Teller but I think McDermott has a bit of a loyalty issue and will probably keep him. Feliciano is a backup level talent but better than Ducasse and Miller were.

  12. If i were McD and Beane (keeping my promise) I would not keep a FB and I would probably keep Feliciano and trade Bodine for an outside LB. Morse missed time with a concussion and I think keeping Long and Bodine makes some sense. But if Long can play center like he did in Washington it makes Bodine expendable.  Long was terrible at center with jets but had an injured hand.

Is this a joke? Teller over Spain and Feliciano?

Oops. I forgot to type Spaine. He will start. Nice catch

  14. A few initial thoughts. I think they will keep DiMarco  (I wouldn't but McD will). Anderson will retire and they will go with just two QBs.  If I'm wrong about Anderson and they keep three QBs then a backup interior OL will be cut. I also don't believe the backup middle LB is on the team now unless they move Lorax to that spot and keep an additional DE. I also think McKenzie makes the team as the KR. I don't know of any other good options for returners. Singletary? Fisher and Sweeney are a toss up. Also I'm predicting Ansah will be signed. I'm going with Teller now for some youth and development. I can see him not making it in favor of Feliciano. Or if Ford starts at RG then either Long or Bodine will be gone. The backup safeties are a toss up but I went with a combination of youth Johnson and exp Alexander. Plus Alexander will be a key ST guy.

    QB Allen, Barkley

    FB DiMarco

    RB McCoy, Gore, Yeldon, Singletary

WR Foster, Jones, Beasley, D. Williams, Brown

    OT Dawkins, Nsekhe, Ford, Waddle

    C Morse, Bodine

    G Long,  Spain, Teller

    TE Kroft, Knox, Croom, Fisher

DE Lawson, Murphy, Hughes. Ansah EDIT SIGNED WITH Seattle. 4th DE not currently on team

DT Oliver, J. Phillips, H. Phillips, Lotulelei

OLB Alexander, D. Johnson, Milano. Joseph

MLB Edmunds, Not on team yet

CB White, Gaines, Wallace, K. Johnson, T. Johnson

S Poyer, Hyde, Bush, M. Alexander, J. Jonhson

KR McKenzie Edit: Roberts ( thanks board I forgot about his signing)

    P Bojorquez

    K Hauschka

I'd rather T.O or Chad before we sign Dez. But my #1 target would be Jerry Rice.

TO and Dez would have made the roster last year if you took the names off the jerseys and didn't factor in the baggage. One of the worst WR groups of all time.

  16. I will commit to not using McBeane any longer.

I'd like to see some level of commitment from the community to not blindly agree with every move McDermott and Beane make.

  17. The Bills offense is going to look like Baltimore with Flacco. Running game will be the feature with play action, some screens, and occasional deep balls. Josh at this point is not a precision short game guy. I’m not saying he can’t develop that part of his game but it will take time.  TE play should be better but it is a real unknown. For those that think the Bills offense is going to look anything like the Patriots, Chiefs, or Eagles I think you will be disappointed. Allen is a season or two away from running those type of high percentage multiple pass attempts offenses.

  18. Catch radius is not to be underestimated with Josh. The easy answer is just keep the most talented but size and catch radius could give a player or two an edge over another fairly equally talented WR.

Create separation in any way is most important. Straight line speed, quickness, route running, and get off the line moves are all ways to get separation.

But they must have good hands. Allen throws a hot and inaccurate ball more times than is ideal. The coaching staff has to prioritize catching the ball and that is a combination of catch radius and hands. Sadly Zay, so far, has not shown the ability to catch the ball and despite his size and reasonably decent ability to get open( i think due to decent route skills more than anything) he will not make the team if he doesn't improve his ability to catch the ball.
