  1. My thoughts: This is the rare week where CBS has to use all seven of their broadcast teams. For the first time, apparently (?,) in the middle of a season when byes have existed, there will be no byes this week (there *were* byes last season in Week 8, for example). (Of course, there are never byes Thanksgiving week.) LOL, as Kansas City only gets CBS's C-team this week. [Likely because of their opponent, Denver, but still...] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Note 1: Doubleheader this week is CBS.] [Note 2: There is *no* MNF ManningCast this week.] [Note 3: Remember: the TNF game is free and legal to all on Twitch--no Amazon Prime account needed.] [Note 4: Remember: all MNF games this season are also simlucasted on ABC unless there is a separate game on ESPN, as in Week 14.] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NFL Week 8, 2023 - October 29, 2023 NATIONAL BROADCASTS: TNF - Amazon Prime Video/Twitch Thursday, October 26 - 8:15 PM ET: Tampa Bay at Buffalo Al Michaels, Kirk Herbstreit, Kaylee Hartung [simulcasts on WTVT (FOX/13) Tampa and WKBW (ABC/7) Buffalo] [Free 30-day Amazon Prime trials for people who haven't had Prime in the last 12 months can be found here.] SNF - NBC Sunday, October 29- 8:20 PM ET: Chicago at Los Angeles Chargers Mike Tirico, Chris Collinsworth, Melissa Stark MNF - ABC/ESPN Monday, October 30 - 8:15 PM ET: Las Vegas at Detroit Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, Lisa Salters ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CBS: CBS Early Sunday, October 29 - 1 PM ET: Jacksonville at Pittsburgh (2) Ian Eagle, Charles Davis, Evan Washburn New York Jets at New York Giants (4) Andrew Catalon, Tiki Barber, Matt Ryan, AJ Ross New England at Miami (5) Spero Dedes, Adam Archuleta, Aditi Kinkhabwala Atlanta at Tennessee (6) Beth Mowins, James Lofton, Jay Feely, Amanda Guerra [Mowins is subbing for the usual Tom McCarthy, who is on standby should the Phillies advance, as he is their radio play-by-play announcer in the post-season, and will also be doing Indiana at Penn State Saturday, October 28, presumably with Jason McCourty of CBS's G-team.] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CBS Late Sunday, October 29 - 4:25 PM ET: Cincinnati at San Francisco (1) Jim Nantz, Tony Romo, Tracy Wolfson Kansas City at Denver (3) Kevin Harlan, Trent Green, Melanie Collins Baltimore at Arizona (7) Chris Lewis, Ross Tucker, Justin Walters [The usual additional color announcer Jason McCourty will probably be doing Indiana at Penn State with Tom McCarthy of CBS's F-team Saturday, October 28.] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOX Single October 29, 2023 - 1:00 PM and 4:05 PM ET: Los Angeles Rams at Dallas (1) Kevin Burkhardt, Greg Olsen, Erin Andrews, Tom Rinaldi Philadelphia at Washington Chris Myers, Mark “Stink” Schlereth, and Kristina Pink Minnesota at Green Bay Kenny Albert, Jonathan Vilma, Shannon Spake New Orleans at Indianapolis Kevin Kugler, Mark Sanchez, Laura Okmin Houston at Carolina Brandon Gaudin, Robert Smith, Jennifer Hale Cleveland at Seattle (LATE) Adam Amin, Daryl Johnston, Pam Oliver [Joe Davis is doing MLB.] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Byes: None ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  2. Oh duh... I didn't even think of that. But I guess the change works out better for you guys in later-airing games (but still...5 AM).
  3. UPDATE 2: FOX-Single: San Diego CA: PIT-LAR to LV-CHI (Thu) They moved to an early FOX game since they don't want to go against the Chargers, who play late. Plus they get to air a division rival. [Map has been changed.] Damn...thanks for this good explanation! [And I did not know you changed the clocks an entire two hours down there.]
  4. Anyone else just lose sound on Amazon? --- EDIT: never mind--I just opened it in a new tab.
  5. And the Buffalo game is airing on free TV there! Looks like Australia has good taste. One thing I recently learned that surprised me is you guys change the clocks forward in the fall (a few weeks ago), which you call "spring", whereas we change the clocks back. I guess that makes sense given the seasons are opposite down under. The other thing I noticed is nearby New Zealand is showing two free early Sunday (your Monday) games, although they are both streaming only. Good for the Kiwis to offer a choice! The NFL is becoming big down under, and they even started a twitter page this season dedicated to Australia and New Zealand. Expect to see international games there this coming decade. I agree...Albany is really upstate NY, and they shouldn't be fans of New Jersey. The area is more Buffalo-like. I would be embarrassed to be associated with NYC.
  6. True, but CBS wants their share of the large Giants (and Washington, to an extent) market. The NFL likes it because if makes the CBS package more valuable and they get more money for the contract rights.
  7. UPDATE: FOX-Single: Salt Lake City UT: LV-CHI to DET-BAL (Thu) Map has been changed. Many of the FOX affiliates are choosing to show the late game (Steelers-Rams) since they don't want to go against their home team on the CBS early game, such as in the case of the WNY area.
  8. Let's add to that Todd Marinovich, Matt Leinart, Mark Sanchez, Matt Barkley, Rob Johnson, and Rodney Peete.
  9. Sounds true: https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/aaron-rodgers-caleb-williams-were-among-the-players-jostling-for-equity "Per multiple sources, the representatives of USC quarterback Caleb Williams had been making it known to prospective agents that Williams wants partial ownership of the team that selects him in 2024, if he declares for the draft."
  10. "Additionally, #Jets QB Aaron Rodgers also attempted to secure equity during his contract discussions with the Jets, but the NFL stepped in to say that isn't allowed."
  11. And you are correct! I checked my sources, and it is a different person. I will remove it. [Edit: once the TBD allows me to edit...as it considers an edit a new post, and two fast posts are not allowed.]
  12. No problem! The encouragement helps a lot. 😆 Well, some people are not happy: While Albany Bills fans are angry for a different reason:
  13. I agree. They would flex if they had a good alternative, the large Chicago market notwithstanding. The NFL gambled Chicago would be good this year. [They did get it right with Detroit though.]
  14. Since there must be 12 days notice to flex out SNF for Weeks 5-13, Chicago at Los Angeles Chargers Week 8 will not be flexed.

  16. https://foxsportsradio.iheart.com/content/2023-10-16-colin-cowherd-says-josh-allen-could-quickly-deteriorate-like-cam-newton/ Colin Cowherd: “There’s a little ‘Jim Kelly’ with Josh Allen. Jim Kelly spent 11 years in Buffalo. Big, strong-armed, six division titles, dominated his division, four Super Bowls, zero trophies. Buffalo could never get the brilliance of Montana and Walsh in San Francisco, the dynamic Troy Aikman and Jimmy Johnson, or the toughness of Parcells and the New York Giants. No trophies with Jim Kelly in 11 years and I feel like I’m seeing the same thing [with Josh Allen]. Great quarterback, really good roster, and I feel like they’re wasting his prime. How many years are we going to give Sean McDermott to figure out the offensive line? It’s been like six years now and it’s still inconsistent. How about the run-game? Middle of the pack in the NFL. It disappears some Sundays. They developed one weapon, Stefon Diggs, and they had to go trade for him. I feel like I’m seeing Jim Kelly again. This transcendent, all-time talent-- big, getting hit, pounded away... Never forget how quickly Big Ben and Cam aged in this league, and how gracefully Tom Brady did. Cam didn’t get hit. Cam, Big Ben, Josh Allen; reminds of the same player. Run over linebackers, leap over safeties; those windows are very short. Josh Allen’s prime is much shorter than a quarterback who’s more pocket-driven. These windows for these big guys who run around... The first 7 or 8 years you’re like ‘IT’S GOING TO LAST FOREVER!’... Cam and Big Ben, they aged FAST, and it’s coming for Josh Allen. They have got to give him a better and consistent run-game. They’ve got to get him more than one-great wide receiving weapon. Bengals have three receivers that always get open. The Rams found another one outside of Cooper Kupp in the fourth or fifth round this year. Either they can’t find them in the draft of they can’t develop them. They’re as good as Josh Allen is. Brady has won Super Bowls and he wasn’t slinging it all over the field. Allen is all-time stuff. In terms of Mahomes, he’s bigger stronger, and faster. Mel Kiper had him as the tenth-best quarterback prospect in the history of the league, they didn’t have Mahomes there. He is unbelievable. No quarterback is great 17 weeks, but I feel like this with USC and Caleb Williams, and Buffalo and Josh Allen... You can have a great quarterback but you can’t be reliant on him to be Superman.”

Clete Blakeman has at times made bad calls against the Patriots, but other times helped them: https://www.boston.com/sports/new-england-patriots/2019/01/15/patriots-chiefs-referee-clete-blakeman-deflategate/ "Sunday’s Patriots-Chiefs referee had hand in Deflategate" [excerpt:] "Blakeman, hopefully, has learned that lesson as well. He was one of the two officials who measured the PSI in the footballs at Gillette Stadium during halftime of the 2014-15 AFC Championship game between the Patriots and Colts, his determinations ultimately costing Tom Brady four games to start the 2016 season and the Patriots two draft picks, including a first-rounder. Blakeman’s name was thus all over the Wells Report castigating the Patriots, the Wells Report in Context exonerating them, and any number of pieces in circulation livid that the Patriots — who’ll likely be underdogs for the first time in a game started by Brady since September 2015 — will have something else to overcome on Sunday. What’s getting less mention is that fact about this being Blakeman’s second-straight AFC Championship game. As in he was the referee for last season’s Patriots comeback victory over Jacksonville, a game in which six of the seven accepted penalties went against the Jaguars. Those six included a pair of defensive pass interference calls, a penalty called against Jacksonville just five other times all year. “The stats speak for themselves,” Jacksonville defensive tackle Malik Jackson told ESPN. “You all see it,” said cornerback A.J. Bouye, who felt the Patriots had multiple infractions that weren’t called. “I got players hitting me up in the NFL saying the same thing.” And that was just the start of the gripes from the vanquished. Last year’s AFC Championship game was Blakeman’s third Patriots game since Deflategate. According to Pro Football Reference data, he also refereed a 2015 blowout of Dallas at Gillette and the Jets’ Week 16 upset (in which they were called for six of the seven accepted penalties) that helped cost New England the No. 1 seed that year. He was also the referee for this season’s Week 3 debacle in Detroit, a lopsided loss with no real notable referee involvement. Blakeman does hold one other dubious spot in Patriots history: It was his crew that officiated the 2013 Monday Night game in Carolina that the Patriots lost 24-20 when Rob Gronkowski, manhandled in the end zone, didn’t get a pass interference call he appeared to deserve." "Mistakes made by NFL "official" Clete Blakeman": Attorney bio: https://www.carlsonblakeman.com/attorneys/clete-w-blakeman/ "In 2018, Clete was recognized as one of the ten best attorneys in Nebraska based upon exceptional and outstanding client service by the American Institute of Personal Injury Attorneys.
