Have You Started To Lose Faith in Josh Allen?
Phil The Thrill replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The difference is, Brady was not reckless with the ball. He didn’t throw 3 INT or take sacks to put them out of FG range. The Bills lost because of Josh Allen....no way around it -

I’m shocked to see you write “should’ve fired Whaley!” You thought Doug did a great job But I would agree. Many believed that Terry was close to hiring Bill Polian as football czar in 2014 before Rex was hired. While he declined a formal position, he was rumored to stay in close contact with The Pegulas, maybe even as an unofficial consultant. Given the fact that he’s old school, I can see him telling the Pegulas to not fire Doug until after the draft because he has a lot of intel. But outside of passing on some great QB and WR prospects, Whaley as a lame duck GM screwed up a bunch of things: - Did not recognize FA compensation and signed marginal scrubs to offset compensation picks they would have been awarded. - Failed to pick up a 5th year option on Sammy Watkins (another player you love). Even if they didn’t want to keep him, the 5th year option would have driven up his value. Beane inherited this situation and his hand was forced. What makes you think he’ll learn? Because in nearly 1 1/2 years as a pro, he hasn’t. -

Serious question - what makes you so confident? I’ve been pretty discouraged with Allen this season - the INTS are one thing, but then there are the fumbles, poor decision making, taking sacks etc I’m not basing this on EJ - I’m considering the fact that while Allen has moved the offense, he has also set them back with really bad plays. He has an extremely high number of turnovers over the past few games and this doesn’t seem to be something that’s going away. Like I said here earlier, I’m not one of these “start Barkley” guys. We need to Allen to take every snap we can get this season. But at some point, the excuses need to stop. You need to see more this year at QB, or this regime will be looking for a plan B -

Your too emotionally charged to think logically. -

if “crusading” means questioning whether a QB will stop turning the ball over 4 times a game then so be it. Say what you will, but I am an Allen fan. I want to see him succeed. But I’m at the point where I need to see more progress. There’s no way he should have played as poorly as he did yesterday Nicely said - I’m in the same boat as you. -

I don’t know about you but I hear the NE defense compared the 85 Bears every day! -

the alternative ended up winning 9 games whereas starting EJ might have won you half as many -

Good take. I feel the same way. I’m still keeping an open mind on Allen but I need to see more an elite defense after 4 games....um ok -

No he did. Rather than run his ends of upfield , he kept Allen in the pocket. Same strategy he has done against every mobile QB - including Flutie in 1999. He also used spies and challenged Allen to beat them deep - which he was unable to do -

You are correct - I never compared EJ to Allen and I never thought Barkley should be played over Allen. But to be fair....I don’t think anyone is hailing the NE defense as being THAT good. That’s a bit of an exaggeration -

This is really selective reasoning. The INT’s were just ONE part Allen’s horrible game. In your analysis you don’t take into account how his poor pocket presence took the Bills out of FG range twice and his sack knocked the Bills back 6 yards where Hauschka missed a FG. -

This is exactly my concern. There’s no guarantee that it WILL happen. I need to see more 3 TD games and not 3 INT games before I feel more confident about it -

You are completely off base. I was not on board with the selection of Allen in the draft. But there were time when I was encouraged last year. I felt really good about him going into this season and I love how great of an ambassador he is for the franchise. But I was also hoping to more progress. There are times where Josh has looked good but also way too many turnovers and poor decisions. At some point - these need to stop and they haven’t over the course of 4 games. Yesterday's performance about as futile as you can get. -

I might be putting too much stock in him, for sure. The thing I notice is that the Giants offense looks completely different when he’s under center vs. Eli. -

He didn’t really destroy them. He made some plays with his legs and made some great passes where WR’s were schemes open. But that was a good game for a rookie QB. Yesterday's game wasn’t just bad.... it was atrocious -
Special Teams as Bad as Last Year

I think Andre Roberts is a very good return man. The Bills need to block a little better on his returns. Unfortunately, I think Hauschka might be on the downside of his career. The good thing is, he’s much more reliable than many kickers in the NFL. Bojorquez is not a good punter. Never liked him and wanted a replacement for a while. The coverage is bad as well -

But did he really “lead” them to 3 victories. When he needed to, he came through. You can’t take that away from him. But you can also argue that it was the defense that led the team to victories. Allen has moved the ball at QB which is good, but between his INT’s, fumbles, or sacks, he’s also taking points off the board. He did this in 3 out of 4 games - you can’t say that this is not a concern And we might have one....but my point is - we have to stop seeing some of the negative plays we saw yesterday. The decision making, mistakes, and poor decisions need to stop at some point -

Sure, they are 2-0 with him as QB including a convincing win versus a bad Washington team. He’s providing a spark and making the overall offense better. This is what you want to see from a new QB. Not 3 INT’s -

you do realize that the protection issues as you put it, are Allen’s fault the majority of the time. He either doesn’t read the defense or holds onto the ball too long. -

what are you talking about? You can’t start a rookie/2nd year QB and then put him back on the bench after giving him the ball. It’s a confidence killer
