This scenario is probably the worst possible scenario for the Bills. Only one QB taken ahead of them with the best prospects all taken and no trading partners.

I would take Hock in this case, but agree with Aussie Joe that finding a trade partner in this case looks good with several teams about to pick needing QB’s.

This is why I did the mock this way.  Let's get some convo on other prospects. I also feel this could be a scenario for the Bills during the draft. I got a feeling the QB'S will fall other then Murray. But like some other poster said there's a great chance some team will want to trade up for Devin White.  Maybe it's the Pack at 12 we swap then get a 3rd & 5th.

    Great topic...

    WANT

    • Mid-first:
      • DK Metcalf -- a lot on this board don't want him, and I get it, but I want a dynastic Bills team, not a *good* team... I say swing for the fences -- that's DK.
    • Late first/early/mid-second:
      • Butler -- tantalizing potential and not hard to see how a guy with his catch radius could help a QB with less-than-pinpoint accuracy.
      • Harry -- love how physical he plays. With Smokey and Foster stretching the sidelines, he could be a matchup nightmare against smaller DBs and/or LBs.
      • AJ Brown/Deebo Samuel -- smaller dudes but would be very happy with either. Brown just seems to be a natural, but I question his ceiling... I LOOOOOOVE Samuel. If we didn't have an entire roster of 6' WRs I'd be dying for him to join the Bills, but would ideally like a bigger dude.
    • Mid-rounds:
      • Riley Ridley -- seems to have a safe floor and a high ceiling... may end up being a great value.
      • Mecole Hardman -- kills me that we signed Beasley to such a big deal because this guy is exactly who we need. Multipurpose weapon, great kick returner, innate ability to get open in the slot... Probably won't happen but he'll definitely be a fun one to watch.
      • Miles Boykin -- craaaaaazy potential, seems like the type of guy we could let grow slowly with 4 solid WRs.
    • Late:
      • Antoine Wesley -- poor man's Butler
      • Preston Williams/Anthony Johnson/Lil'Jordan Humphrey/Tyre Brady -- prototype big WRs with "artificial" (or at least superficial) deflation
      • Jalen Hurd -- just starting to play the position. Great athlete, big upside.

    AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

    • First Couple Rounds:
      • JJ Arcega-Whiteside -- TE in a WRs body, one-trick pony (and that trick is starting to die out in the analytics-driven NFL)
      • Parris Campbell -- Speed blinds, drops nullify.
      • Kelvin Harmon -- Separation is the name of the game in the NFL these days. If he was a Metcalf-like athlete he'd be a no-brainer, but bad athleticism coupled with poor ability to separate means trouble against pro DBs.
      • Isabella -- Sorry, just don't see it. If he was as good as many here think he is, we would've heard of him prior to the senior bowl.
    • Later:
      • Hunter Renfrow -- Small hands aren't worth what he could produce... Not like he's the second coming of Randy Moss.
      • David Sills -- See JJAW, pedestrian athlete. As a UDFA, sure, but don't waste a draft pick on him.

Not fair on Isabella he played at UMass not a school that's on national TV every other week . I would say he's been talked about plenty based on where he played.

  3. I believe the 2 players with the highest floor and ceiling is White & TJ

There will be because only one QB is off the board and a couple of teams will be clamouring to get in front of Denver..

Let's just say for sake of this topic that McBeane phone is not ringing in this scenario and we have to make our selection here.

  4. 1. ARZ- QB  Murray

    2. 49ers- DE Bosa

    3. Jets- DE Allen

    4. OAK - Q WILLIAMS

    5. Bucs- DT Ed Oliver

    6. Giants - DE Gary

    7. Jags- OT Taylor

    8. Det-  DE Sweat

    9. Bills ?

The top 6 Dlineman are off the board in this scenario .  Who will the Bills select . Here's some options .

    Wr- DK Metcalf

    TE- TJ Hock

    OT - Jonah Williams

    DE- Brian Burns

    DT- Christian Wilkins

    LB- Devin White

    CB- Byron Murphy

I will take Hock myself but I believe the Bills would lean towards Burns.

I know probably 80% would say trade back but let's just say there's no trade available. If I left out any other candidates please give me your opinions and why.

Great perspective.  I recall a few years ago there was also plenty of talk about needing WRs.  There was near universal consensus on this board that Laquon Treadwell (another Ole Miss guy) would be a great NFL receiver.   I can hardly recall an argument against that on the board leading up to the draft.  The Vikings stole him at #23 and at this point they probably wish it was the 23rd pick of the 7th round.

I was 1 of those that hated Treadwell I actually liked the 2nd rd wrs more that yr Michael Thomas and Sterling Shepherd were my #1 & #2 Wrs in that draft.

I don't care what that chart says i think we should get more.  First of all there's a huge difference this yr in talent from 9-17 , secondly the Giants are moving up for a QB.  If I was Beane I would ask for 2 , 2s one this yr 1 next.

Where were all the top TE's in the league drafted?

Theres only 32 of these starting jobs across the league.  Teams carry 3 of them on average on a team . So basically there's 96 to 110 players at this position in the league it's not like other positions that have double triple the amount of players. So naturally teams do not value this position as much but the teams that are really good to great 80% of them have a difference making elite TE on there squad.

Now since the position is not valued as much by old style managers this naturally pushes these players to 2nd or 3rd rds of the draft.

  8. 4 hours ago, Bray Wyatt said:

Please no to Hockenson at 9, you dont use top 10 picks on non premium positions

It's debatable if TE is a premium position now. I myself think having a elite TE can do wonders for a offense just ask Bill Belichick well maybe not ask him because he wants to keep teams not knowing what he has learned over the yrs. Adding a player like Hock will open up the entire field for our offense and will give Allen the security blanket he needs

Cleaned up salary cap disaster in one year

Wheeled and dealed to get into position to draft a franchise QB

Not afraid to roll the dice on an upside player, and more importantly, not afraid to admit a mistake and cut their ass if it doesn’t work

Addressed O-line and WR,  largest team weaknesses in FA, on team friendly deals without breaking the bank

Still has a top 10 draft pick in his pocket and nine other picks

Should have @$100 million in space next year to extend our own talent instead of watching it walk

Has the stones to go after AB, and the brains to walk away

Gets up in front of the entire NFL and national sports media and tells them all to suck his d*** for bad mouthing Buffalo

We’ll all see how it plays out on the field this season, but I think Beane has this franchise in the best shape it’s been in twenty years

I'll answer this question when we are a top 5 team.  I would admit though he's done a good job so far.

If a player isn’t there at 9 that the Bills love, I can see a move down to 17 where the Giants are,  if Haskins is still available before the Broncos pick at 10. Beane and Gettleman obviously have a close relationship and based on the point scale, the Giants second round pick should be enough to get the Giants up, maybe a swap of late round picks as well. Having picks 40 and 48 in the second round is worth roughly 1000 points or the equivalent to the overall number 16 or 17th pick. The Bills could than sit tight with 3 picks in the top 50, or find a trade partner in the teens to package both 2nds or one the 2nds and a third or fourth to get back into the bottom of the first. The Seahawks are intriguing at pick 21, as they only have 4 picks in the draft. Of course this is based on the Bills loving two prospects in the first round, but also not giving their draft away.

I know what the pt chart says but that goes out the window when a team is trading up for a QB. We gave up 2 2s last yr to go from 12 to 7. I'm not making that deal just for a 2 I need more

You may be missing my point. The value of a TE at 25, compared to the cost, and a TE at 40, compared to the cost. The production difference between the two is not gonna be worth the capital spent.

T hats as easy as I can say it

I understand what your saying but at some pt u got to stop giving up the difference for high end difference maker talents. Irv Smith isn't in my opinion that type of guy he's nowhere near Fant or Hock as a prospect.

  12. Just now, BuffAlone said:

My point is, this is a deep draft at both TE and DL. Unless we are trading up for a top 5 player, why would we just spend capital on a late first rounder when the difference in production between a mid 20's pick and #40 are not extreme?

The way I see it all those high end DTs and TEs will be gone by #40

Teams like the Colts, Pat's, Chargers and even a few teams that pk before us in the 2nd have major needs at DT & TE.

  13. 1 minute ago, BuffAlone said:

#9 and #40 are 50 points more than the #4 pick. No need to spend next years first. And #4 was just a hypothetical spot considering Oakland has 3 firsts this year

Even if it costed just a 2 id rather pk Oliver or Hock at 9 and trade bk up into the late first for another player by giving up the 3,4,& 5.

I watch a lot of Notre Dame football and I am not sure Tillery is worth a 2nd round pick. He is really inconsistent a lot of his stats came in a single game last year. But he seems to be gaining momentum on the board for some reason.

He actually dominated the first half of the season until he hurt his labrum. Tillery has scored the best pass rushing grade ever recorded by PFF.  This kid has just as much potential to be great as any other DT at the top of the draft.

    1 minute ago, BuffAlone said:

Proehl and ray ray were not mid rd picks. Neal played some, Teller started. So, you realize that we've hit on as many as we seemingly missed on, right?

Other then Milano we haven't done much in 2nd halves of the draft.

  15. 55 minutes ago, BuffAlone said:

Yeah, Im not giving away a 2,3,4,and 5 for anybody...let alone a TE. McBeane has shown they can find starters/quality players in later rounds. If anything, spend a 2nd, and 4th to move up to 4 for Q Williams if he's still there. Otherwise, stand your ground and stay at 9

Obviously u don't know what draft trades cost because to move up to 4th overall u got to give up a 1st next yr.  Remember the Sammy deal.

  16. 7 minutes ago, BuffAlone said:

You want to spend #9,a 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th rd pick on a TE and a DL? In a draft that is deep at both positions? Yikes!

I'm spending on players that are projected to be impact players.  Not Joe Shmoes in the 4th & 5th. U realize even with Mcd here we've wasted some of those mid rders right.  Serion Neal, Proel, Ray Ray maybe Teller.

It takes two to tango.. Lot of variables in there and no guarantee any teams want to move around like that, or that teams won’t trade up in front and snag the players you want. Then what? And I hate the Crabtree and clowney deals but that’s just me

There's definitely variables to any plan any team has going into the draft and yes it takes 2 to tango. Here's the thing when it comes to Clowney it's reported by numerous people the Bills have spoken to Hou about him and the reports indicate that the Texans are asking for a 1st in return. When it comes to a trade well most teams discuss parameters before the draft to know what it will cost to move up and the team that I choose to do the deal the with the Ravens well they trade back almost every yr . Obviously things have to fall your way to get this done but it's not impossible to pull off.  Obviously there's stages to this plan. Let's say Fant is gone by 20 well then u go to plan B. Teams have probably 100 different ways they can go on draft day but it always starts with 1.

We are a team now full of quality players we need to consolidate our pks and cash in on impact players at impact positions the same thing that the Bears did last yr.

  19. Go big or go home the plan that fits everyone needs or basically everyone. If u are still hoping for a OT in the first rd u might not like this plan but maybe I can talk u into it and if u are on this board McBeane think about this.  ??

    The draft

Actually these are 2 plans in 1 depending on who's available at #9 . The targets are Ed Oliver or TJ Hock.

    The Oliver & Fant Plan

    #9 - Ed Oliver

#22 -Trade/Baltimore , we all know the Ravens love to make draft day trades and are never shy about moving back and collecting more pks . By the draft trade chart it would take our 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th to move up to #22 but let's just say we give up the extra 4th we got instead of the 5th for good measure.  Remember this trade because I'll be using it again in the Hock plan.

    #22- TE - Noah Fant

The Hock &  1st Rd DT Plan

#9 - TJ Hock, now I would try to move bk a couple of slots anywhere from 10-12 and add a 3rd rd pk or more but if I can't we stick to the Hock plan.  Keep in mind this plan is implemented if Oliver is not on the board.

#22 Trade/Balt- draft 1 of these DTs in order Wilkins, Tillery or Simmons.

So basically with these 2 plans we come of the draft with impact players at both the DT and TE positions and we still have pks in the 5th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 7th to add to our team.  But the plan doesn't end here I got more for the I want a DE crowd.

    Trade/Free Agency after the draft

    #1 -Trade/Hou , Trade 1st rd pk in 2020 for Clowney .

#2- Sign Wr Crabtree & LB Jamie Collins

Now we are ready to compete in 2019 . With all the additions we made leading to the draft and the trades and free agency afterwards this team is ready for a deep playoff run as long as Josh Allen takes the proper steps up in his development.

Adding impact players at TE, DT & DE which we all know are major needs for this team will solidify us going into this season and make us a major player in the AFC moving forward.  Also with the addition of Jamie Collins and Crabtree we get 2 battle tested vets that can help us in a big way.  If Milano doesn't come bk healthy Collins steps in and can fill those shoes and maybe even better then Milano.  If there all healthy then we got a serious rotation that McD can use. Crabtree gives us that big physical  possession/ red zone target our WR core is lacking plus he adds leadership to the Wr room.

Depth, depth and more depth . This team is loaded and we can withstand injuries to almost any position.  With all these 1yr deals it also gives us competition element that most teams don't have.  I think the Bills might be on to something with this method and if it works out look for NFL teams to start copying this competitive environment method. With all these additions we are starting to build a team like the Patriots were we have flexibility on offense and defense to come out in basically any formation from week to week which will nearly make it impossible for teams to truly prepare for us.  On offense we can play 11 or 12 personal or the spread on defense 4-3 or 3-4 , big nickel small nickel u guys get where I'm going with this.

Our new Roster Depth Chart 2019

    QB - Allen, Barkley

RB- McCoy, Gore, Draft pk, Dimarco

Wr- Crabtree, Brown, Foster, Beasley,  Zay, Roberts KR/PR

TE - Hock/Fant, Kroft, Croom, Fisher

OL- Dawkins, Spain,  Morse, Long, Nsekhe

    Bkups Feliciano,  Teller,  Bodine, Waddle

    DL - Hughes,  Oliver/Tillery , Star, Clowney,

    Bkups Murphy, Shaq, Harrison, Jordon

LB - Alexander,  Edmunds,  Milano, Collins

CB- Tre, EJ, Taron, Wallace, KJ

    S- Poyer, Hyde, Bush, Alexander

Now that's 49 players including our kicker, punter and long snapper we got the rest of the draft and other bkups I didn't mention to full out the other 4 remaining roster spots.

Now let's hear it fellas give me your opinions.
