Experts here think Saffold is too old at 30..,

    Just sayin..

Everyone has an opinion but Offensive lineman can play at a high level until there mid 30s . Neshke doesn't have the wear and tear of a guy that started all his career also.  I'm just saying he would be a nice addition to our team.  He fits the Mcd way being a flexible player that has worked really hard to get to this pt.

If I'm Bean right now these are my targets after today's signings.  We missed out on AB and it's a weak free agent receiver class.  Tyrell Williams is nice and all but he is not a #1 guy although he is about to be paid like one.  I would rather not go after him and at worst save that money for other free agents this season or next.  The draft seems to be weak at the top end for receivers.  I know everyone is nutting over Metcalf but for me, that cone and shuttle drill pretty much takes him off my board in the first round.

That leaves trade to be the most viable option for a true #1 receiver.  People keep throwing around Beckham but he is going to cost too much in a trade.  I think the Bills would have to give up the 9th overall + to get him.  Also I can't think of a personality that would take to Buffalo less than Beckham.  He is a megadiva and I think it would be a mistake to bring him here.

So the other guys that have been speculated to be available would be AJ Green and Julio Jones.  Julio Jones I kind of don't think is realistic for a few reasons.  Despite him just turning 30, I still think he would cost the 9th overall + to get.  Also the Falcons have Matt Ryan and I think they aren't breaking those two up anytime soon.

As for AJ Green, I think he could be had.  Green is a free agent after this season and he is going to want one more big payday which I don't know if the Bangles are going to want to ante up for.  If I am the Bills I am offering the 2nd round pick in the upcoming draft, and maybe a third in 2020.  Then I am offering Green a 3 year deal that makes him the highest paid receiver in the league or close to it.  Keeping him signed to 3 years avoids future cap problems if Allen pans out and we want to sign him long term.

Then I am looking to sign Daryl Williams to a 3 year deal around $11-13 million per year.  Again you give him big money but keeping it to three years allows us to avoid future cap problems and doesn't preclude you from re-signing Dion Dawkins when he is up for his next contract, assuming he develops into a worthwhile tackle or guard.

With this approach you go into the draft with a true top tier #1 receiver, who is not at all a headcase locked in.  Then you are looking to draft BPA at 9 which will probably be an OT or a defensive lineman.  Maybe you take Taylor or Williams at #9.  Taylor may not be there but you may be able to trade down and still take Jonah Williams, or just trade down and go in another direction.  Regardless, with what we already did today, adding Green and Daryl Williams would gives the Bills tons of flexibility at draft time even with giving up the 2nd.

    Taylor/Williams, Dawkins, Morse, Long/Teller, Williams

    or

    Dawkins, XXX/Teller, Morse, Long, Williams

In the first scenario we use our first pick on a LT and may have gone from maybe the worst offensive line in the league to one of the best.  In the second we have still improved our line vastly and it can still be very good or better.  I think either scenario with AJ Green added to the mix is enough to get me as excited as a Bills fan since I have been since I was a kid during the Kelly years.  I hope this is along the lines McBean is thinking.

I would agree with u on this if I felt the Bills were a Wr away from contending but we're not.  We need to draft 2 Wrs early in this upcoming draft and maybe even one late. Build up our skill positions in the draft with home grown talent.

The Bills have been in the market for a slot Wr but there's plenty of them in this draft.  Matter of fact I think its the best I ever saw for that position.

    AJ Brown

    Deebo Samuel

    Andy Isabella

    Terry McLaurin

    Penny Hart

These guys all can be really good players in the future and some of these guys u can get in the mid rds of the draft. If I'm the Bills I'm staying off the free agent market for Wrs until the dust settles these guys just ain't worth the money there getting right now.

  3. Ty Neshke would be a great addition to our line if we can get him for a 3yr deal at around 18mil .  Neshke is 33yrs old but has started 16gms over the last 4 seasons. He's graded out pretty good at around 70 on PFF.  Neshke is huge 6'8 330lbs and can play multiple positions on the line LT/LG/RT.

I would sign him even if we get D Williams because he gives us flexibility on the line whether if he finds a starting role on the line or if he's a bkup. I think he can start I watched him step in for Trent Williams these last couple yrs and filled in very nicely he was a fan favorite in Washington. 6mil per yr won't be bad for the security this guy can bring us being a switch tackle at moment notice. Go get him McBeane .

Another bonus to signing Neshke is if we don't land D Will we won't be forced to draft a tackle early in the draft. We can afford to draft a guy in the mid rds and develop him behind Neshke or by the very least we can push the tackle spot to next yrs draft.

Btw if I'm Beane I'm still spending big on the line and I would still try to sign Saffold, D Williams and Neshke.

51 games, 67 receptions.  It sounds like a typical Buffalo Bills TE stat line.  No more JAGs.  We have plenty.  Give me playmakers!

There in the draft . Don't overpay for these bum Wrs in free agency.  Let's keep our eyes on the prize get a couple lineman. OT/ G/C

Hakeem Butler is a contested ball specialist with a huge wingspan @ 6'5" and 228 lbs. and good YAC ability that helped him average over 20 ypc.   He may be everything they hoped Kelvin Benjamin would be but he actually showed more athletic ability at the combine with a 4.48 s 40 and 36" vertical he outperformed Benjamin at every measurable  beside weight.  They definitely do not have anyone like him on their roster.  He'd be a nice target to have at the other end of a Josh Allen scramble.  He doesn't seem to be in many top 10 lists and I'm not sure why, but, that might be changing post combine.

He has a really hard time with the press and although he makes circus like catches he has inconsistent hands. Don't get me wrong I like him and the fact that he's not high on many boards means we can steal him at some pt in the draft.

16 sacks in 3 years. 8 of which came in one year. He really hasn’t been very good.

The only thing he has over Barr is age

The 21 was including playoffs.  But he's so young 24yrs old and I believe Mcd can get this kid rolling. It really depends on the money he gets if it's a base salary starting at 8mil that can go up with incentives on a 3yr deal why not.  I see him like an extra late 1st rd pk but with NFL experience because of his age.

I don’t know why everyone thinks Barr is such a perfect fit.  He’d be getting paid 8 mill+ to play less than half 1/2 our defensive plays max.  I personally think Lorax is a better SLB than Barr

Agree I would rather sign Donte Fowler he's 24 and in 3yrs has 21 career sks. During the playoffs he added a sk per gm and hurried the QB 4times per gm.

Riemersma was a 7th-round pick. I believe Kevin Everett was a 3rd-round pick. Other than Everett, when's the last time we spent a fourth or higher on a TE?

    (Not rhetorical -- I really can't recall. ?).

Shawn Nelson from Mizzo he was a 4th Rd pk I believe in 2008.

A superstar WR is a waste of money if your QB can't get him the ball because he's running for his life because the line sucks, and if you do not have credible running game because your line sucks, and your TE has to be used for blocking because your line sucks. Job One this year is rebuilding the OL, starting with a center. Everything else is foolishness.

Nobody has mentioned here not to do anything with the line. Were just saying to make that the biggest priority during free agency. If we build a line that can run block and give up 35 sks on the yr without giving up hurries every play in good with that.  We need a middle of the pack line. Of course I would like them to be the best but at what extent we throw all our assets this offseason ?

REALLY? That's what your draft board would look like? I like Isabella as a prospect, but he wouldn't be in my top 5.

I'm guessing this is the poster personal preference as far as he ranks them as they project as pros not were he would take them in the draft. I think Andy will be a top 5 Wr from this class when we look back in 2-3 yrs .

I have watched the city of Buffalo and our football team be pilloried over the last 18 hours by the entire sports media complex.  AB was being sent to "Siberia",  he was being sent "North of the Wall, to the Night's Watch."   "The Steelers are trading him to Buffalo to punish him."  The Bills are a terrible team.  Josh Allen is trash.  Buffalo is trash.  Nobody wants to play in Buffalo...

I hope every member of the Bills is listening to this crap.  I hope it pisses them off.

I hope we as fans embrace this and run with it.  I hope our new offensive line is full of pissed off bad asses and their nickname becomes the Night's Watch.  I hope fans show up to games next year dressed as the Night's Watch.  They want to make it an insult, I hope the Bills wear it as a badge of honor.

Winter is Coming?  You're damn right it is....

The Night Watch I love for the secondary

Zay can't separate well enough to be a #1 or #2... I'd replace him with a kid like Greg Dortch from Wake Forest.

Foster is speedy, and versatile if he can consistently catch the ball, so he stays... I don't know much about Duke, but I require more than CFL-cred at WR to comfortable with hanging onto him... Hakeem Butler is a guy I like as a big, physical, threat... Reminds me of Plaxico to tell you the truth... I feel like Isabella will either be a Chief or a Cheat... Get him in space and it's first-and-goal every time. -Gotta have an accurate QB though... TJ Hock would be wonderful if the bills don't target a TE in free agency... I didn't see much scheming go into our offense last season. That has to change in order to use weapons like these.

I think the Steelers is a sweet spot for Andy to.

Catch radius has a lot to do with.. catches with their hands, can go up and catch, can reach back and catch, go down and grab a ball.

Im not saying Isabella is terrible I think he can catch the ball, but he’s the shortest of those 5 I mentioned and I think has the smallest hands.

Id take Isabella in a heartbeat but there are a few guys in the 2nd round I’d grab above him. I think route running, body control, hands etc are all more important than catch radius, but the ability to ssnatch  a ball consistently no matter where it’s thrown is important and some guys are naturally better at that than some, some guys can’t do it at all or it is a weakness. It’s evaluated trust me

I know it's beneficial but it's not one of the main things I look for in my wrs. With that being said u make some good points. What Isabella lacks in length he makes up for it with his ability to get yac and to separate at a moment notice.

Great Wrs come in all shapes and sizes I guess it wouldn't hurt to have 1 smaller guy out there on the field.

Dude put up over 200 yds against Georgia this year. He can play.

Thing is Allen is not the most precise passer and his catch radius kind of requires that.  AJ Brown is the ideal guy. Big, strong, good hands, good route runner, combine showed he’s faster and quicker than video shows. He will go between 30-40.

I think these guys fit our scheme and they plus inside and outside

    AJ Brown

    Deebo Samuels

    Riley Ridley

    Andy Isabella/Parris Campbell

Thrown in Harry, Butler and Harmon those are your WRs that go between 30 - 65.

Catch radius is the most overrated physical ability in my opinion.  I think Allen needs separators more then high pointers.

He will almost certainly be a pure slot guy in the NFL. A deep threat out of the slot, yes, but he almost certainly will never face press coverage like Antonio does.

My comp is based on physical attributes only . I have no clue if Andy will be as good.  But I love the player think he can get to the pro bowl a few times and have a great career .

Would you be pleased with our offense if we picked up the following this offseason:

    WR Tyrell Williams

    WR Devin Funchess

    TE Jesse James

    OG Roger Saffold

    OT Jamarcus Webb

    C Spencer Long (signed)

    Draft:

    TE TJ Hockenson88

    OT Greg Little

    WR JJ Arcega-Whiteside

Would these additions improve the Bills to be a playoff contender next season and help JA improve as a QB?  If not, what does it take to get there?  I don't think Beane is going to pick up any high profile players like AB or LB types but 1 or 2 overpaid linemen and WR's are in the mix and needed.  Just curious what everyone's expectations are for the offseason and top 3 rounds draft guys!

    Go Bills!!

This could end up being that way I guess it's solid at best in my opinion I like the draft pks especially Hock but other then Saffold & James the free agency leaves alot to be desired.

On 2/28/2019 at 3:42 AM, Florida Bills Fanatic said:

I think T. Williams and J. James may be the kind of guys that Beane would be looking for.  The other guys probably don't fit the cost/value target that Beane will want. I really think that they will go hard after one of the prime free agent centers (Long is just a depth player).  I just don't believe they will take a tight end with the 9th pick either.  If they trade down and Hockenson is a good value for their new pick, then maybe.

I have low expectations when it comes to free agent pickups.  I think the signings of Hyde and Poyer may be the blueprint for Beane's approach to free agents.  Neither of these guys were big splash signings but are good solid players that have turned out to be great values.

I hope Hyde & Poyer is his blueprint because last yr was a horrible free agency period for him. Maybe he should call Whaley and get some help with those free agents.

Nobody else is going to mention the idea that a 3rd round slot WR can be an AB type player, who doesn’t even play in the slot and is one of the best WRs of all time?

Wasn't AB a 6th rd pk? Plus Andy can play everywhere and his skill set is very similar to AB. He has that shifty quickness with speed to burn he's even faster then AB.

That's a fine plan but what you're failing to realize is rookies mostly take time to develop especially at the TE position. I can't remember the last time a TE came in year 1 and tore it up, I'm sure there has been but it seems like a rare occasion. I'm pretty sure that's why we went after AB, we already have a young core at WR/TE in Foster/Jones/Croom now were asking 2nd and 3rd year guys to help the rookies? We will get a veteran WR at some point, not sure if it will be by trade or FA but I'm pretty sure they want a guy who's been there, done that imo. If we stay at #9 I'd say it's highly unlikely TE is the pick there since I don't believe any TE is a top 10 pick, that's going off some top lists of big boards from CBS to ESPN to others I consider.

I'm thinking more about the future when it comes to TJ yr 2 or 3. But he can help right away with his great blocking and I think occasionally he will make a play in the passing gm.

    3 minutes ago, DefenseWins said:

I wouldn't mind drafting a guy like Isabella but if the Bills go out and sign a FA like Adam Humphries (who also returns punts) or Cole Beasley doesn't that sort of negate the idea of drafting Isabella too? Again, alot depends on who the Bills are able to sign as FA next week. The Bills are also rumored to have an interest in Frank Clark DE as well. I really think we need to watch and see what goes down in FA first before we can begin to formulate draft plans - NO?

Those veterans are ok players but I think Isabella will be much better then them and for much cheaper. I also much rather spend our money on a player for defense or the Oline. I think the Bills will be better suited attacking those positions in free agency.
