Since Beane has been here IMO he has been all about value.  He has cut players with bad contracts, gotten guys like White that would be taken much higher now and used the UDFA process to great impact.

2019 is intersting for sure but so are the following years.  This year we have a ton of cap $.  We can spend that and plug holes at OL, TE, edge and others.  WR might be tough along with LB.

Turning to the draft, and no offense to these kids, but it is the most boring in history.  These guys pretty much suck.  We pick at 9, and it is already thinning out by then.  I could see Beane pulling off a master stroke that looks bad at first but pays off for decades.  Burn the value chart and trade all the picks to different teams for their corresponding pick next year.  Spread it out so odds are that some of the picks will be high in their round.  Trade the 9 to the Cardinals and we'll have a chance at #1 in 2020. Other teams might be Cincy, Washington, or Detroit. Next year trade Tua for multiple 1's.

Package our 2 2020 2's and roll the dice on AB, get another UDFA like Wallace/Foster but at RB, LB and depth OL and we are set up for a decade.

Draft day 2. This time Staring Ralph Machio and Mr Miyagi.  Lol?

I think this would be upgrades and starters aplenty

The more I think about the draft the more I feel this is the type of direction the Bills will go. I can see these guys concentrating on the lines in first 2rds then getting the weapons from the 3rd to 5th.

  3. Joe Marino locked on Bills  podcast is the best. Much better then anything on WGR.

Yesterday show very informative to those that don't listen give it a try.

He talked about how the Bills don't value the WR position much as far as having a traditional setup with a #1 guy but rather put together a core of guys.

He also talked about the 3tech DT that McD heavily emphases in his defense.

U can tell the man loves his job and has a great grasp of what he's talking about.

Allen is a good player and can help in a lot of ways. I prefer a guy like James becuase he has more height and length. But Allen would be a nice add to the position.

My my guess is he goes to Miami and helps Flores establish culture ala Mike Tolbert.

I think the Bills have heard some news they don't like about Jessie James could be the market price for him or his unwillingness to sign here.  I hope these TEs just keep saying no until we have no choice but to draft Hock. Lol.

He is easily an option for us at 9 and has been IMO.  There are several guys who could or should be there at 9 I would love taking, so pretty sure I will be thrilled with our pick there no matter what.  I trust Beane not to do a "Whitner" or Oakland Raider type blunder, so its going to be someone like Burns, Oliver, Gary, Metcalf, Allen, Sweat, etc.  Hard to predict who falls to us, but pretty sure we are going to get one helluva prospect at #9.

Trade bk could be in play to if anything the combine opened up more options for trade other then QBs.

Hopefully the Pack move up from 12 to 9 and we swap there late first for our 2nd. #29 for #40 .

#13 - Hock, Sweat, Burns maybe even Wilkins who I think the Bills love.

#29- Fant , Risner or Little

    Is he a great prospect...yes.

Is Beane and McD gonna do a "Whitner" like blunder at 9 and take him over some other stud prospects?  No way.

Could he be drafted by us in a trade down like Tre was in the bottom half of the first?  Sure.

Could he be taken in the 2nd (he wont make it there though IMO)?  Sure.

Would I be upset if he was a Bill when the draft is over?  Only if we took him at #9.

Our secondary is loaded just sign EJ Gaines back for depth and a backup safety and we are in great shape. There's plenty Mcd type players in this draft if we took a CB in the first he better be the next Revis. This pk would truly make me question my love for the Bills after 30yrs of fanhood.

Doesn't he struggle in coverage? Maybe my memory alludes me but I only see McD want OLBs that can hang with backs and TEs

OH MY GOOD WATKINS WOODS HARVIN MCCOY CLAY WE ARE UNSTOPPABLE

We've been down this road before allowing ourselves to over-value our roster

U know what tore that up right the old injury bug hit them hard. By the 2nd half of that 41-14 blowout of Miami they never were healthy at the same time again. Some people just don't put things in perspective.  It would of been great to see what those guys could've done together had they stayed healthy.  I guess that's the ugly part of the game that u can't really prepare for.

9sks last yr and over 40 hurries 5 forced fumbles 3 he recovered in 12gms played. Not bad.

With all the talk of how our first 2 picks will go, wondering who everyone is drooling to grab in rounds 3 and 4 where we have currently 3 picks?  Below are a few of the ones I would love to grab with these picks if they are there.

#74 (round 3):  Andy Isabella - WR - This kid could be our Kupp/Edelman type player out of the slot but way faster.  His combine was pretty darn good, so he may sneak into the 2nd round.  But with how the deep this draft is at several positions, especially WR, its still quite possible we can get him in the 3rd.

#105 (round 4):  Bryce Love - RB - I think someone is going to get a steal here with him in 4th round.  Sounds like he will be ready to play sometime this year (even likely by camp), and he idolizes Shady, so ideal guy to learn behind.  He is a guy that could go 3rd round too, but he seems to be seen as more of a 4th round guy right now given injury and the fall off from his previous year too.  Use him sparingly early in the season and let him ease back into it to groom him for more touches later in the year and to potentially start in his 2nd season.

#124 (round 4):  Josh Oliver - TE - This kid to me reminds me of young Jimmy Graham.  Not sure how much you guys all got to see of him being at smaller school here in CA, but this kid looks like a real gem to grab.  Hoping we could nab him in the 4th, but he impressed at combine, so his stock may have risen and may go higher.

I like Oliver also like Dawson Knox.

Seems like anyone that's down on Metcalf simply points to David Boston as if he's the only other WR that's ever been an athletic freak.

That one picture that floated around clearly was taken at an angle that makes him look much larger than he really is. He's still a big dude no doubt but that one photo looked like the Space Jam guys after they got done drinking Michael Jordan's secret stuff.

Metcalf measured out nearly identically to Julio Jones and they both look relatively the same in terms of body size to match the numbers.

Image result for dk metcalf combineImage result for julio jones

Oliver's TFL numbers are literally head and shoulders above basically every DT prospect of the past decade, including Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh.

The 53 is impressive . But the sks way way down at 13. I realize he gets big time attention but the same could be said for other high profile prospects.

Tevin Coleman would be a nice addition as well. The man can do it all. We all know weve gotta get younger at RB.

Depends on the money more then 4mil per yr is to much for me.  4 or less let's do it.  I think the 5 and up are reserved for really good to great bks.

You wouldn't be kicking the tires on Collins or Smith. You better be ready to write the big check for those two. Za'Darius Smith is so underrated. You want pass rush he is a guy to go after in FA.

I love Smith to one of my favorite players available i wonder if he's a fit for McDefense though.

I don't expect us to spend more then 55 to 60 mil tops in free agency.  It might be alot less though if the big dollar guys don't want to come to Buffalo.

I’m neither. He should have a similar grade to the defensive players at that point of the draft. If the grades are that close I’m going oline because it has a much higher positional value. Second to QB imo.

The game is changing and positional value is a team by team approach other then a true Franchise QB teams will have Edge players , IDL,  Corners and Oline usually rated highest but some teams put the highest emphasis on difference makers regardless of position.  If it happens that they have a player rated very high at a position that matters they'll make the move but if u have a Wr or RB u project to be a All Pro player and a Olineman or some other position projected to be a solid pro well guess what throw the positional value thing out the window. Lots of teams are starting to realize this because difference makers no matter what position can't be found in free agency.

Buffalo needs to go oline and defensive front 7 in FA.  Imo better value for your money.  In the draft you can get better skill players.  Imo there is not a Wr worth 5 mil a year let alone 12 to 10 they are projecting.

At least for now the Bills need to really understand the value of this for us. We won't get top talent offensive skill set players why

#1 there not ever available in free agency

#2 if they were available they won't come here unless u give them QB money.  Lol.

I know he's not the most popular FA target around here, but seems like his price might end up being lower than anyone expected after a poor end of the year and given his age, generally solid level of play each year (been graded around the #50ish WR in the league each of his 4 years by PFF), and McBeane's familiarity with him, seems like he's a guy we should continue to keep an eye out for.

Granted we may have seen the beginning of a shift towards preferring speed WRs over big targets, but it could have also simply been that we recognized Benjamin sucks and that Foster/McKenzie were worth taking a chance on.

At any rate, the article here mentions that Carolina declined to make any sort of extension offer to Funchess so he will be hitting the open market.

He is what he is a JAG . Just because he's a cheap JAG that's young should that make a difference? Funchess doesn't even play big I've never seen him high pt anything on NFL level other then 1 time.  I rather give someone else a chance because although this jag saves us money he takes someone else off the field that can develop more . We don't need JAGs we need potential difference makers that offer different skill sets. Although Funchess is big in size he doesn't play like it so no thanks.

After the Bell situation - I think it will either be a major point of contention in the next CBA.  They'll either argue that it needs to be done away with entirely, or they need to drastically change the way that it works.  Players with non-guaranteed deals like this want guaranteed money, and more years.  1 year deal's that lock them with a team is really damaging to the players

It's hard to think of a way to do this without having all players be almost RFAs after their rookie contract - thus allowing offer sheets, but also giving a team ability to match and some control when trading.  The tag doesn't allow anyone to offer sheet a player and get them the extension at the value that they feel they deserve, the franchise has all of the leverage because they have a tag in their back pocket.  Multiple first round picks seems a tad excessive since there aren't as many rounds in a draft, there's a limited pool of players in the NCAA, and with a cap like this there is a lot of parity in the league.  At the same time, you have to get something if you're losing a player who you drafted high, and don't have cap space or something to extend.

So I think figuring out an appropriate compensation strategy would be pretty important.  Maybe open it up to sign and trade deals (allowing agents some freedom to negotiate with other teams like a RFA), therefore the franchise gets contact from interested teams who have worked out a a contract with the agent.  They can then work with that team on a trade - bring in a an established piece (or package of players) and a pick (or multiple picks) - while the other team gets the tagged player at the deal that they negotiated with his agent.  Another option is maybe a sliding scale of tag amounts with sliding compensation for offer sheets, different from the RFA ones.

The tag should be off the table unless the player is coming off of a rookie contract.  Rookie contracts are capped, so they will want to maximize their income outside of that contract the first chance they get - they shouldn't be limited in doing so.

As for other established players, they should be able to have more power to choose their destination.  This probably causes more problems, but also limits the franchises ability to force players into unfavorable deals, and penalize them for not signing them.

Let the NBA have those problems with not having the franchise tag. It's ruining there sport because u got players joining forces and creating superteams.

I believe they should just add another tag for 1 first rd pk in compensation.  U will see tons of teams using this tag . But for a small market franchise like the Bills I love the franchise tag. God forbid Allen becomes a beast and because there's no tag he just walks away from the team that developed him so some big market team can reap the benefits.  We are already playing in a uneven playing field let's not let this sport become like the NBA where u got Shaq , Tracy McGrady and Penny walking out the door as soon as they get a chance.

  17. I know some here will be critical of a signing like Landon Collins but I beg to differ

#1 Signing Collins will give Mcd the chess piece he needs a Rover LB/SS like Collins would be flat of weapon for Mcd.

#2 The flexibility of both Hyde and Poyer will make this work.  Poyer was a corner in college and has shown those coverage skills on the NFL level. Hyde can lineup in the slot in a pinch .

#3 With these 3 guys all together on the field in a big nickel we will hardly be caught off guard by opposing teams offenses . With these guys willingness to all get dirty in the box they won't be a liability in run defense and in coverage this is where we will benefit the most.  Teams like the Pat's and Saints that love the quick gm will find it a daunting task against these 3 beasts to get that quick gm going and we can put them in uncomfortable situations and that's not to mention Edmunds and Milano and Lorex in rotation at the LB spots.

#4 The Blitz packages . We've already seen Mcd call timely blitzes at times and take advantage of opposing offenses with this.  With Collins in the mix these blitz packages will be downright nasty.

I wouldn’t say Joe Thomas elite. Taylor looks to be the best and closest thing to “elite”. Comparing Taylor o Ronnie Stanley, who was selected in the elite part of the board, I’d give them a similar overall grade.

Jonah, Ford, Dilliard very solid starters.  The rest of the group is deep and I’m happy with the OL draft crop in. A year where we need to upgrade it.  Some in FA, at least 1 in the draft.  Wouldn’t mind seeing 2 or 3 in the draft if we can draft down

Should the Bills just be looking to upgrade or to hit a home run that's the question. I believe there will be better players at other positions when we are on the board. As we seen so far from Beane he likes to swing for the fences.
