Well, well, well, I get to speak on a former Notre Dame player. B-)  Seriously though, Okwara had a solid 2018 with 7.5 sacks and a number of QB pressures. In 2019 he battled through some things and had a down year. Then, in 2020, he put it all together. He had 10 sacks, 31 pressures, 10 QB hits, and 10 knockdowns. If you watch the film he has a quick first step, uses a number of pass rush moves, and is always ripping at the ball when he gets to the QB. He is also solid against the run and is effective lining up on either end of the DL. He honestly reminds me of a younger Jerry Hughes, but he seems to close out better. He's only 25. In the offseason scenario thread I created I had us signing him for 4yrs $32M with $24M guaranteed. The price tag might end up being $1M-$2M higher per year, not sure with the market.

Call me greedy and I believe with the right maneuvering with the cap which I believe we have at our disposal I want any combination of Lawson with either Hendrickson or Okwara .

Okwara deal from what you saying is very doable and I believe Lawson as well as Hendrickson will get the same type of deals. So it's not gonna kill our cap especially if we make the space via cuts and restructing of other deals. Which would also free up enough space to add a couple Olineman and fill the rest of our holes that we have.

    RE - Lawson, Hughes

    1Tech- Star, Phillips, Draft Pick

3 Tech - Oliver, Zimmer, Add Cheap Vet

    LE- Hendrickson/Okwara , Epenesa

  2. If u look at the best defenses over the yrs that ran 4-3 zone they all were built on speed & physicality especially in the front 7.  The Seahawks, Bucs, Colts & Rams are just a few that come to mind they won the Superbowl with these types of defenses.

If we're being honest the Bills D as currently constructed are not built in this fashion especially on the edges . We need to add some juice to this defensive line group and players like Lawson and Reddick can add that demension we've been missing.

The interesting thing is like the Bills those teams I mentioned other then Tampa had some high octane offenses and it just seemed like that style of D complemented there offenses very well. We desperately need some more speed and athletic ability added to this D.

Barrett is a good comp because they are both very good pass rushers but have weaknesses in other facets of their game. Lawson's PFF grade just for pass rush the last two years is up in the mid 80s. His run defense drags it down a bit and I think their run D grade on him is kind compared to what I see on film. He is a bad edge setter but the Bills do have guys who set the edge. They need a guy who gets after the passer. Just not sure about that price for someone I think teams can run right at (on a Dline that already has run game issues). Under $10m I am all in. The further it goes up after that the less sold I am.

I agree but with Star return our run D should get much better. We also need a viable bkup at the 1tech either someone in the draft like Shelvin or McNeil or via free agency .

After reading some articles I felt Hendrickson should be our target.  I then reviewed his sacks from last season and none of them were impressive.  Either cover sacks our just lucky to be at right place at right time.  Just reviewed Okwara sacks and everyone of them he beat his guy. 10 sacks last season

I don't know i seen a good 7 sacks were he blew away the Tackle blocking him. There's always going to be coverage sacks anyone with 10 sacks on a season would have at least 4-5 of those.  Look at tape of the leading sack player and u will see the same thing . I watched TJ Watt sacks at least half of them were coverage sacks or the rush leading the QB his way.

Carl Lawson should be the goal. May not happen but I would have to be told no.

I agree he's my favorite he's gotten 95 total pressures the last 2yrs combined and has a 79 PFF grade the last 2 seasons as well.

Now think about that stat for a sec , 95 pressures on a team that's usually losing the majority of the time. That's very impressive . I wouldn't mind Carl The Lawman at about 11mil per I think he's the next Shaq Barrett type.

Sorry for being a bit late, had a ton of travel for work.  Will try and get the rest of the offense finished up before UFA starts

Offensive Line – I was just OK with the OL play.  While they were actually pretty good for most of the season pass blocking their run blocking really suffered all year, and really fell off the cliff when we lost Ford to INJ.  I have a feeling a lot of people are not going to like what I write about this group, but I think I see how the Bills want to build the OL, and that is pass blocking as the priority, over run blocking.  Obviously, they would like that OL that is good at both, but if they seem to lean to the pass blocking more if there is a flawed player at the position.  I will continue to look at the OL in the future under that context, Pass Blocking is the Priority over the Mauler.  IMO this was the lowest performing group in the offense, particularly because their inability to run block really forced one sided offense, which was fine when our WRs were all healthy, when they were not (KC game) it became evident their struggles.

    Bills UFAs:

Ty Nsekhe, 36 yrs, OT, 2020 AAV: 5M, SPOTRAC Market Value: N/A – He has been depth since he is come here and has provided pretty good depth and seemed to play good enough when he has had to play.  However, with the cap crunch and the age factor with him I think it is time to move on and look to get younger in this position I think they have that youth on the roster already and I will get into that later, but I think Nsekhe is gone, unless we are talking Vet minimum here.

Daryl Williams, 29 yrs, RT, 2020 AAV: 2.25M, SPOTRAC Market Value: 7.8M – He had a couple games with where he struggled really late in the season and playoffs mostly, rushers with speed he has some issues with, however I think that Market Value is about right on him.  So, If I can get him back on a 3-year extension in the range of a 6-8M AAV I am good with bringing him back.  We start getting over that 8M and I think I am willing to let him walk.  As one of the better linemen this year I would look at bringing him back, but I would want the contract protected as well, with an easy out after the year, like Spain I think there is that chance he can go that route of Spain as well gets a contact and then starts regressing, forcing to move on.  That is what scares me about him, and even as one of the better linemen this season there is nothing with Williams that tells me that he cannot be upgraded, so I would also want to protect against that, may be a player that Bills let hit the market and see what happens with that, I don’t think there is a must need with Williams of not letting him hit the market first.

Jon Feliciano, 29 yrs, OG, 2020 AAV: 3.625M, SPOTRAC Market Value: 8.3M – Another I think could very well walk, I do not think he is worth the market value of 8.3M AAV, also I don’t think he really is that great.  He was known for his nastiness and power yet got abused in both the run game and pass game against power.  The Chiefs game he really struggled, and if that is who we are measuring against we need to get better here, not pay good cap space to tread water.  The issue I am having saying out right let him walk is Morse Situation, with another concussion Bills may be forced to bring him back this year so they have a BU Center as well, protecting themselves in the future if they do not get a Rookie to start grooming for Morse.  I would be fine either way letting him walk or re-signing (depending on the terms) But I think he is actually worth closer to 5-7M AAV.

Brian Winters, OG, 30 yrs, 2020 AAV 3.0M, SPOTRAC Market Value: N/A – Provided depth, albeit not that great of depth imo.  With declining play and youth on the roster I think Winters walks.  I would let him walk.  Had a shot with Ford INJ and Spain release to secure a new contact instead lost that job to Ike Boettger (who I thought played fine) so moving on.

Ike Boettger, OG, 27 yrs, 2020 AAV 570K, SPOTRAC Market Value: N/A (RFA) - I would likely qualify Ike at 2nd round value RFA tender this year or re-sign Boettger to a 3-year deal in the 2M AAV range.  I think he has shown he can start in a pinch, I would not sign him as a starter, and that is how I think I am able to keep his AAV down.  Gives him a nice raise and some security.  At 2-3M AAV we have a nice depth OG, however I also understand with him wanted to move on, but as depth I would keep him.  This provides security if you let Feliciano walk (or move him to Center).

    On Contract OL:

Mitch Morse, 29 yrs, Cap Hit 10.34M, Savings 4.8M:  In my opinion any talk of release here is strictly health related with the concussions.  He is a very good pass blocking pivot and is athletic to be able to move, getting to second level and pulling, however at the POA he is a little light and struggles against power.  However not the biggest issue, not an issue at all on the OL except for the health issues.  I personally would keep him this year because I don’t think I am getting his caliber of play within the 4.8M of savings we would get from a release.  However, this is where I let Feliciano walk, draft Morse’s future replacement, and let him play next to Morse as an OG.  However, Bills do have to start planning for life after Mitch Morse, and I think that planning should start this year.  I know people are looking at this as a cap savings cut but would make a hole you have to fill.  So let’s say you like Feliciano here, that’s fine as well, I think it is a downgrade, but then you would want to get Feliciano under contract for about 7M a year, that is his AAV in 2020 and the Savings from Morse.

Dion Dawkins, 27 yrs, Cap Hit: 11.395M:  Dawkins was our most consistent and best OL this season.  He once again showed people he is one of the better LTs in this league.  Could this position be better?  Maybe and then sliding Dawkins to RT, but I don’t think that is a need.  I know there are a lot of people I have talked to that say he isn’t good and that is shown because when Josh Scrambled, he breaks out away from him, meaning Dawkins isn’t blocking, that is a wrong assumption, Josh just has a natural tendency to break right when he needs too.  Most of the pressure this year am from the interior and the RT side.  He is not going anywhere anytime soon unless they get a better LT and slide him to the right side.  My opinion if you want that to happen just go get me a top end RT and not force the position change.  He does struggle with run blocking, which to me is weird he has the power to be effective there, but a lot of times Run Blocking is more of a mindset than anything, and I just do not think he has that mindset, Was better in the beginning of the season with Ford next to him, than later in the season.

Cody Ford, 25 yrs, Cap Hit: 2.047M, Savings: 307K – The enigma of the OL group, he is probably the most polarizing.  I think he played very well at LG until injury.  It was like they finally found the position that will put him in the best chance for success.  His is athletically challenged on the edge but inside the phone booth much better, then has the power to hold up inside as well.  Putting him in between two established players of Dawkins and Morse unlocked his ability IMO.  It was ashamed he went down with INJ, because he would have been talked about as one of our better lineman IMO.  He is a very effective run blocker and is an above AVG pass blocker inside at OG.  IMO he is slotted right in to start at LG again next year and this position IMO looks solid, with depth needing to be addressed a bit.

Ryan Bates, 24 yrs, OG/OT/C, Cap Hit: 850K, Savings: 850K – This would be an easy cool savings of close to 1M is he was released.  However, you will not find a depth OT, OG, C for 850K.  His value is ability to play every position on the OL.  I would have expected him to play more than he did this year, but we were pretty healthy on the OL with the exception of Ford and a couple nicks here and there.  But just that depth of all 5-position filled under 1M dollars is too valuable to move on from.  When ever he did play since he has been here, he has not looked that he cannot play.  I am maybe a bit of a Bates truther, but find me another team that can fill 5 positions of depth under 1M dollars.

Jordan Devey, 33 yrs, OG, Cap Hit: 860K, Savings: 860K – Camp Fodder, I don’t expect anything from him.  Will be cut and pocket the 860K savings after draft or camp.

Trey Adams, 25 yrs, OT, Cap Hit: 780K, Savings: 780K – I think he will be given the first shot at the swing OT spot.  I liked him coming out of Washington last year and was happy when Bills signed him as a UDFA.  He was an elite OL in college and then INJ took their tool and cause the major draft slip, without his INJ he likely doesn’t leave the first round let alone all the way to a UDFA.  His combine was horrible as well.  But he was kept around all year on the PS, when Bills routinely moved people on and off the PS.  This camp season is going to be huge for him, because I fully expect some more youth coming into the OL this offseason.

Possible UFA TGTs (go with my top 4 or top 5)

I would rather stay away from buying OL in the UFA market, as they get pretty pricey however there are also some bargains to be found, and with a constricted cap year I could see some 1 year deals given out to vets similar to Spain and Williams, and make them play to their next contract either with us or elsewhere.

    Interior (OG/C):

Joe Thurney, 29, OG (Likely 12M AAV)

Brandon Scherff, 30, OG (likely 10M AAV)

    Nick Martin, 28, C (Likely 7M AAV)

DJ Fluker, 30, OG (1M AAV)

Kelechi Osemele, 32, OG (Likely 1-2M AAV)

    OTs

Taylor Moton, RT, 27 (Likely 12M AAV) – Let Williams walk, get younger and better with another RT from Carolina.

Germain Ifedi, RT, 27 (Likely 1.5M)

Kendall Lamm, RT, 29 (Likely 3M) Marcus Williams, 25 (9.4 AAV) – Long term replacement for Hyde

Cam Robinson, OT, 26 (Likely 12M AAV)

Ok to the point of what I would do.

I would probably be more dramatic than most, and even the Bills, but this group needs to be upgraded specially on the right side.  So, what I am doing is letting everyone but Ike Beottger walks.  My Priority signing would be Taylor Moton and then depth with a Osemele and Fluker on 1-year deals.  I go into the draft and find my long term replacement at C, and initial OG in the league until ready to move on from Morse.  If I can pull that off the OL looks a little like this going into camp.

    LT - Dawkins / Bates

    LG - Ford / Osemele / Bates

    C - Morse / Rookie / Bates

    RG - Rookie / Fluker / Bates

    RT - Moton / Adams / Bates

I like your idea I would just like to add to it forget about Boettger unless u want to sign him to be a bkup. Also no Fluker instead give 4mil to Denzel Good to play RG . DG got his chance to play last yr and was a force for the Raiders on there line. He can also play multiple positions on the line and he's familiar with Bobby Johnson from his time in Indy.

  6. I'd take Gabe but it depends on the price he's seeking. If it's in the 4-6mil range with incentives why not but for more then that no way.

I want him hungry that's when he seems to play at his best. 2 yrs in a row his play has dipped in the wrong direction. Maybe he got comfortable with his money or maybe he was dealing with injuries that slowed him down. Either the Bills should proceed with caution with Gabe.

He had a nice sack early.  He didnt get his full back to a player during the punt return though and ended up on his butt then too.  Then the game got away from them and he was a non-factor.

I agree it was late 3rd & early 4th quarter on the 2 pancake blocks by Bates and the game was out of hand but Van Ginkel and Wilkins looked to be still playing hard on those plays and he still got destroyed.

With that being said I wonder if there's a spot on this line for Bates as a starting option . I know he graded out very well in his limited action from last season and it was on a limited playing time but he looks the part out there. I realize he has limitations with his short arm length but some lineman are able overcome that limitation and have strong careers. I hope Mcd and Johnson give Bates every chance to be a starter next season whether it's at RT, G or C find a spot for him.

This will be an offseason like no other we have seen in a long time. With the cap decreasing, where it had been growing exponentially over the last few years, it is going to make things a bit challenging. Beane will have to navigate this whole situation and really hit on the moves he makes, both in FA and the draft. I don't know if this is anything that he would do, but this is a scenario I put together. First thing we'll have to do is take care of things at OBD with whom we re-sign and whom we cut. Right now we only have about $3.3M in cap space at the current projection.

    Cuts:

John Brown - Saves almost $8M in cap. I would rather resign McKenzie for less than 1/3 of what Brown is making.

Mitch Morse - Saves $4.8M in cap. Morse has never really lived up to the contract, but he has been solid. Still, you don't know which head injury will be his last.

Quinton Jefferson - Saves $6.5M in cap. He was decent, but I think we an easily fill his production with someone else at a cheaper rate.

Vernon Butler - Saves $6.8M in cap. I know he was played out of position at the 1-Tech, but we can get similar production for cheaper.

Lee Smith - Saves $2.25M in cap. It really is time. Bye Lee.

Mario Addison - Saves $6.16M in cap. He'll be 34 when the season gets going and he didn't add much to the defense last year.

At this point we would be sitting with close to $38M in cap space and could save more money with a couple of restructures to Dawkins and possibly Tre. Let's just say Beane restructures both of them to give us another $8M-$10M and we end up with $46M-$48M in total cap space.

    Re-sign:

McKenzie - (3 yrs $6M w/ $4M gtd) It's not a big contract. I don't see him getting more anywhere else. I see value on ST and in the offense for us.

Feliciano - (3 yrs $19M w/ $13M gtd) Feliciano wants to be here and I think we want him back, but we won't overpay. This gives him an uptick and we move him to C.

    D. Williams - (3 yrs $24M w/ $16M gtd) Williams had a tremendous bounce-back year and was a key cog on our OL. This would be top 10 RT $$$. I think it's enough to get it done.

    Ike Boettger - RFA Tender

    Bojo - RFA tender

    Wallace - RFA Tender

Winters - 2 yrs $3M w/ $1.5M gtd (I don't really like it that much either, but he is a cheap depth option that knows the offense)

    Nsekhe - 2yrs $4M w/ $2M gtd

    FA:

Romeo Okwara - DE - (4 yrs $32M w/ $24M gtd) He would be an upgrade @ DE for a reasonable rate. Reminds me of a younger version of Jerry Hughes and he's only 25. He can also take over for Hughes after 2021. He had a solid 2018 with 7.5 sacks, but had a down 2019. Then in 2020 he put it all together getting 10 sacks, 31 pressures, 10 QB hurries, and 10 QB hits. He also plays the run well at the position and is effective from either side of the DL.

Jayon Brown - LB - (4 yrs $40M w/ $28M gtd) Imo, he's an upgrade over Milano though Milano will likely get more $$$ on the open market. He's just as good in coverage even though he may not be as fast. He's a better tackler than Milano and has more pop in his pads. He played an inside LB role in that Tennessee hybrid type defense, but would be able to handle the WLB responsibilities here with absolutely no drop off.

Johnathan Hankins - DT - (3 yrs $12M w/ $8M gtd)We all know what was missing up front this past year. A run stuffing 1-Tech that would eat up blockers while making plays inside. Hankins plays well against the run, but offers no pass rush for the most part. He is at the least a heavy rotational back up to Star, but could very well end up the starter. Either way it would give us a nice rotation in the interior of the DL and allow Oliver to get after it. It would also allow us to keep our big guys up front rested not having to lean on one guy all of the time.

    Draft:

    1. Trevon Moehrig / S / TCU - The nation's Jim Thorpe Award winner in 2020. Moehrig is an athletic freak who can squat 600lbs, bench 400lbs, and runs a 40 in the 4.5's at 6'2" 210lbs. He has a lot of positional flexibility being able to play both FS and SS, but he will eventually take over for Hyde in this defense. We could run that three S look against pass heavy offenses as Moehrig can cover anyone on the field. He takes good angles and lowers the boom on ball carriers when given the opportunity.

    2. Daviyon Nixon / DT / Iowa - Another guy to get after it from the interior of the defense. Between Oliver, Hankins, Nixon, Star, Zimmer, and Phillips that interior is looking VERY capable of causing opposing offenses problems. Nixon plays with power, quickness, and uses his hands well when shedding blocks.

    3. Nico Collins / WR / Michigan - At 6'4" and 215lbs Collins is a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. Especially hard to handle when you add him to an offense that already has Diggs, Davis, and Beasley to account for. He is a true vertical threat that uses his body to shield defenders, has an extra gear when he gets in any kind of space, and can go up the ladder to snag any ball Josh would hang up for him. He opted out in 2020, but averaged 20 yds per reception in 2019 even with Shea Patterson as his QB.

5a. Daelin Hayes / DE / Notre Dame - Hayes reminds me a bit of Shaq Lawson. He didn't have the college production of Lawson, but he also didn't have four 1st Rounders playing by his side up front either. He is decent at setting the edge and can be a 5-8 sack per year type of player on a rotational basis. (You knew I had to go with a ND player at least once in the draft

5b. Garret Wallow / LB / TCU - Going back to the TCU well again for another defensive player. Wallow was a S who converted to LB in college. He does well in Zone coverage and blitzing off of the edge when his number is called. He's depth and a developmental WLB to add to our defense.

    6. Javian Hawkins / RB / Louisville - Hawkins is lightening in a bottle, but on the smallish side standing at 5'9". He has a good build for his size though at 195lbs. He's that home run threat type of guy though who can hit a seam and take the ball 80 yards to the house. His 40 time is expected to be between the low 4.4's to the high 4.3's and you can see on the tape he is that fast in pads. Not really used in the passing game at Louisville so he will need some refinement there, but he could end up being a steal this late in the draft.

7a. Tommy Doyle / OT / Miami (OH) - A developmental prospect who has the ability to evolve into our swing OT off of the bench. He has good functional playing strength, but will need to grow in pass pro.

7b. Jimmy Morrissey / C / Pitt - A developmental C prospect who started a bunch of games at Pitt. He was solid, but is more of a finesse player than one who plays with a mean streak. He still could provide depth along the OL.

Our lineups next year would be as follows:

OL: Dawkins-Ford-Feliciano-Boettger-Williams (Starting) Bench - Nsekhe, Bates, Winters, Doyle or Morrissey

WR: Diggs, Davis, Beasley, Collins, McKenzie, Hodgins

    RB: Singletary, Moss, Hawkins

    TE: Knox, Sweeney, Gilliam(FB/TE)

    QB: Allen, Webb or Fromm

DE: Hughes, Okwara, Epenesa, Hayes, D. Johnson

DT: Oliver, Star, Nixon, Hankins, Zimmer, Phillips

LB: Edmunds, Brown, Klein, Wallow, Dodson, Matakevic

S: Poyer, Hyde, Moehrig, J. Johnson, Neal

CB: White, Jackson, T. Johnson, Wallace, Lewis

    K: Bass

    P: Bojo

    LS: Ferguson

I know there are things I didn't address which other people say would be necessary such as CB, but I believe an improved pass rush makes all of your CB's look better. I also love what Moehrig will bring to the table for this defense on the field and I think it gives us options. Okwara will be much better than Addison. Epenesa I think takes another step forward with a full offseason of work in the weight room to get his body right and working on his craft. Hayes and D. Johnson are capable of making plays. Throw Hankins/Star into the lineup as space eaters (which we didn't have last year) so Oliver, Nixon, and Zimmer can get after it up front. Now the interior looks like a strength as well. I think that Edmunds and Brown are also a better tandem than Edmunds and Milano. On top of that, for passing downs you can have Oliver and Nixon both on the field pushing the pocket from the middle. Backup QB is sketchy. TE still isn't solved also if you don't believe Knox will get any better, but you can only do so much with the cap this year. Overall I think this team keeps us contending for the AFC and a SB next year while starting to position us for when other roster turnover starts to take place.

I give your draft a solid B . Free agency I would gone about it pretty much the same but with different players.

I would love Carl Lawson instead Okwara but Okwara is also a nice player. I wouldn't mind either one.

Morse u could have made him a post June 1st cut and saved 8.2 mil off the cap.

I'm surprised u kept Matekavish and his 3.5 mil cap number. That's a little hefty for a team with cap issues.

All in all I respect your plan. I takes hard work to put this together. I commend the effort.

    • Thank you (+1) 1
  9. I hope we just take Ettiene at #30 if he's available. This offense has really good wideouts what we really need is either a difference maker at RB or TE. Now all world TE are very very hard to find it's not a direct science finding them either I think it's more about how there developed more then anything else. But backs u can find them and usually the better ones are located in first couple rds of the draft. Ettiene has a Kamara type style to him but I think he's even a better runner then Kamara. This Offense would definitely shoot to the stars with a difference making back.

Beane doesn’t start looking at Carolina players until they are on their fourth or fifth contract in their mid 30s. The Bills are the retirement plan for half of the Panthers organization.

We missed out on the only Panther that was truly worth the signing James Bradbury was that guy is that guy. Top 5 corner in the league only signed 3yr -45 mil deal with the Giants.  Imagine him and Tre on field together that would of been shutdown city. Instead we wanted to dump extra money on the DLINE with average players at best. Mof we sat Murphy and his 9mil on the bench most of the yr add in Norman deal for 6mil and u have an elite corner in Bradbury instead. Check out his numbers vs elite wrs especially in NFC south like Julio , Evans, Thomas in 2019 he shut them down.

Yes he is gonna get paid

    but

Look at all the things he can actually do well....this swiss army knife is literally that and could replace players on the team in different roles actually making him a bargain

    - Replaces John Brown (if they choose to go that route)

    - Replaces jet sweep ability along us to replace McKenzie's role

    - Could serve as the speed back we need to compliment the running backs we currently have

Lets not forget that Beane drafted him

I agree with some of your premise but Samuel going to be way to expensive. Plus he plays in the slot most of the time.

Now if we can get him at around 8 mil per which I highly doubt we can then yes but for 13-14 mil a yr no way. He's not a special player in think we can find similar players in the draft for much cheaper.

Some of our best finds have been bargains hunts. Darryl Williams is a prime example of that. Even Feliciano.
Jordan Poyer years ago. Guys that didn’t break the bank to sign and not many were familiar with. There’s going to be a lot of veterans out there this year if teams have to make a lot of cuts for salary

The players I believe fit this mold and I believe the Bills will show interest in amongst others.

    G/T - Denzel Good

    DE- Carl Lawson

    RB- D'Onta Foreman

    RB - Marlon Mack

    Wr- John Ross

    FS- Malik Hooker

    DT- Kawan Short

    DE- Aldon Smith

    DE- Everson Griffen

I'm not saying we'll add them all of course just feel like well add a couple of these guys.

With less money to go around you would have to assume there will be some creative deals struck and the price of some of the FAs will go down.

There are few teams with lots of money to spend and there are quite a number of premium FAs so is it possible:

    1.  that some will go with longer term backend loaded deals to provide security since they can't get top dollar this year.   Find a contender to commit to...

    2.  More FAs will take shorter term deals so that they can re up sooner when cap is better?

    3.  The tier 2 FAs will have a tough time finding a job at what is perceived 'market value

Just an interesting twist on the "we don't have any money to spend" argument.  Might this be the year where you can get the FA you want by creative deal structure rather than what you can pay this year?

    What are your thoughts?

Plus teams especially the Bills will coveat players that were cut because they won't affect the comp formula.

He’s better but Mayfield is capable... They are loaded at the skills position(more than we are) and have a ton of talent on that defensive line..... disagree that they are even rosters. Bills have Allen, Diggs, White whom are elite, Beasley who is very good, and the rest of the roster are mostly JAGs .

No love for Poyer, Hyde, Edmunds, Dawkins & Oliver. I wouldn't call them JAGs

I believe where Cleveland has the advantage is because of Myles Garrett . Watt will get a ton of 1 on 1s with Myles on the other side. With us Watt would possibly be the center of attention by the opposing Offense unless Oliver takes a huge step forward this yr.

You say you guarantee some things, and what you have there is certainly not a guarantee. Buy the team and you'll be in position to have power over the situation and at that point you can guarantee things. What you have there is a guess.

A guess which might be correct. But a guess.

And you really kind of did suggest things that would be blowing up the defense. Our coach, who is wildly successful at putting a very good defense on the field year after year, is committed to a platoon at the D-line. You say he shouldn't. Fine, again, buy yourself a football team and put your ideas into play. But he's not going to change because there's a guy on the internet who thinks he should.

We're going to need 8 DLs who will all play very significant snaps. They're likely to cut one or very possibly two. Three might be stretching it, but it's a possibility, but more than that? Please. But the guys who are cut will have to be replaced somehow and that will cost money. Your idea about cutting many and thus having tons of money available for outsize spending isn't realistic, money-wise. If they cut a lot, they'll have to replace a lot.

Where did I say Mcd shouldn't use a rotation? Or that he should change his scheme. Didn't we lose 4 guys from the previous yr from our front , Shaq, Star, JP and basically Murphy since he only played in 6 gms and his snap percentage was very low at that. Wouldn't u say we got worse at the Dline without those players? We downgraded and overspent. That's the truth.

The point is now to realize the mistakes we made and make good with them. Jefferson, Addison and Butler did not earn there salaries. Hughes is on the downside of his career and Star is coming off a full season out. Obviously

just my opinion but i predict that we will move on from at least the 3 I mentioned Addison, Butler and Jefferson.

  16. You guys are flat out amazing . We spent 51 mil on our Dline last season. Was that money well spent ? Did we return value on our investment? I can say with resounding confidence that was a horrible way to spend 50 mil . Do u realize that was 1 or 2 in the NFL on money spent on the Dline?

So with a straight face who wants to sign up for that again. I gurantee u that if we bring back the same players we won't get better results. We were winning most of our games by big margins and these guys still couldn't muster pressure consistently with the front 4 . We needed to blitz to get pressure. These are the facts .

For those who want to use the lack of off-season excuse your even more amazing . Everyone had to deal with that every player , coach, front office, everyone. Did that stop Josh Allen from growing as a player and leading our offense to a record 502 pts? Did that stop Daryll Williams from allowing 0 sacks on the season? Imagine what he can do with a full off-season ? If anything the Oline needs to have them reps way more then the Defensive line.

So stop putting words in my mouth I didn't say blow up the whole Defense I said blow up the edges and get rid of the bkups that are getting paid 7-8 mil per yr. That's ridiculous no team in the NFL is spending that much money on rotational players. Justin Zimmer came in and stole some of these guys reps with his beautiful min salary. We need to find more guys like him to work into Mcd rotations.

So keep saying I'm wrong if it suits u but u know damn well that we need to make major changes at the DE spots. So yes I would cut the fat on this line and build around Oliver, Harrison & Epenesa. Btw Harrison Phillips was the 2nd best DT in the NFL the last 6 weeks vs the run . He finally got fully healthy and we seen the results . Oliver got better this last season also and I'm looking forward to full breakout season from him in 2021 and hopefully we can add some players that can muster some consistent pressure on the edges without having to blitz . Last but not least we can get this all done without spending 50 plus mil on the Dline.
