Because they didn’t want to go into the season with a WR room of Diggs, Shakir and rookies .. Our OC had worked with Samuel before and knows he can fit into the scheme he is designing.. so he probably prefers to have him rather than have a rookie he doesn’t know as well… Also … Its an odd thing … but not every rookie comes in Year 1 Week 1 with the experience, confidence and knowledge of a vet … Hollins will be the Sherfield replacement … plays some Teams and gets about 40 plays for the year

They still got a number of guys back … and may not be finished yet re-signing people Obviously this is the tightest year for Beane to date…and most of the other teams got a late “windfall “ with the increased cap…so there is more money to throw around this year … Maybe previously loyal guys that have been here a while like Dodson and Jackson get given a “ depth” number that could be a fallback if they don’t get another gig… but both of them got starter money elsewhere … Maybe Neal just got more money from Miami.. No doubt one year only guys like Sherfield and Poona Ford only get “good luck “ on their way out the door …

I would have preferred a more natural fit for the Gabe role personally… as I agree that Samuel won’t be used there more than 20-25% … Obviously they now seek to fill this hole in the draft But Like I said a few days back … they were always making a move like this to add more vet experience to the WR Room… we don’t even know who Shorter is … so leaving Shakir and Diggs to team up with two rookies was never going to work for this conservative brains trust .. I assume Beane just couldn’t compete on the prices that the other guys went for which may have been better fit for the Gabe role I still expect him to be a producer in this team … I’ll take 600 yards out of him ..this is less than Gabe last year … but now more mouths to feed
