  1. That data is interesting. It would be curious to see how it breaks down going forward with QBs now entrenched in the 25-30 million a year cap number. Using the term "false rise" in retrospect doesn't sound right. As an earlier poster stated, I think a more accurate description would have been inflated. I don't have a problem first rd grades on these kids, but being drafted in succession 1-4, or none being around at 12 is perplexing. Especially when reading the breakdown on class, with each prospect having an area of concern. I guess this is where passing on a guy like Mahomes bites us in the butt. But if they parley the draft capital gained with that trade all will be forgotten.
  2. Similar to others, I'm all for moving up using 22 and another chip. I am not in favor of doing anything similar to the Jets. And I do feel these QBs are rising ranks due to desperation. This looks more like 06, 07, or 11 than 16 or 14.
  3. If capped contracts on rookies, specifically QBs weren't in place, do you think this many would be going in the first round this year? We've seen teams that have had success with QBs on rookie contracts take advantage of their low cap number and load up on talent in other areas. Before if a team made a mistake at QB in RD #1 it would set them back years, from a cap perspective. It's a copy-cat league and these teams want to get away with having control of a QB for 4-5 years with a bargain cap number. Not that I disagree with this philosophy, but I think we're seeing a false rise up the boards of these QBs, potentially due the positive financial implications if you're lucky enough to hit on a starter. I hope they'er lucky enough to find one of the 1-2 guys that will actually pan out. I think this crop of QBs would be spread between rounds 1-3, if not the precedent that's starting to show itself. We need to dodge the fools gold, and if we can't get QB they're 100% confident in, draft BPA. Stud players in other positions are dropping due to the false inflation of some guys that in other drafts that would be lucky to be picked before the second round. I know some of you think we should sell the farm no matter what. But what if the talent this year doesn't justify it? Just an FYI, when the eagles drafted Wentz, they did so because all their scouts and consultants indicated the QB crop from college was progressively going to get worse. This is due to running gimmicky offenses, always being shotgun, emphasis on the screen game and defensive looks. I think it's harder now than ever to know if a QB with translate into the pro game. Buyer beware. *League rank of starting QB cap hit for protected starters in 2018. (From PFT.com) 23. Mitch Trubisky: $7.258 million. Slotted rookie deal from 2017, as the No. 2 pick. 24. Jared Goff: $6.984 million. Slotted rookie deal from 2016, as the No. 1 pick. 25. Carson Wentz: $6.669 million. Slotted rookie deal from 2016, as the No. 2 pick. 26. Jameis Winston: $6.337 million. Slotted rookie deal from 2015, as the No. 1 pick. 27. Marcus Mariota: $6.053 million. Slotted rookie deal from 2015, as the No. 2 pick. 28. Patrick Mahomes: $4.1 million. Slotted rookie deal from 2017, as the No. 10 pick. 29. Deshaun Watson: $3.463 million. Slotted rookie deal from 2017, as the No. 12 pick. 30. Dak Prescott: $680,000. By rule, he can’t sign a new deal until after 2018. *The list doesn’t include 32 quarterbacks, given the possibility that one or more rookie quarterbacks will be Week One starters.
  4. I guess you know little to nothing about the assets they've acquired. The Bills should hope they're so lucky.
  5. Agreed. Every decent QB would be worth multiple 1st Rd picks now... The beauty is doing it organically and finding value where others couldn't see it, or didn't have the opportunity to capitalize.
  6. Great, we give the NYG the potential foundation to turnover that roster, to win a couple more Lombardi trophies, while we suffer with a Leaf, Smith, Russell or worse. Dramatic I know, but look at the QB track record here. not quite Cleveland, but that's not saying much. I want to give a kid the best shot possible and not have to have them carry a team before they're ready. What Carroll did with Wilson should be a blue print. That whole team carried them in their SB runs.
  7. Ok, who's our Todd Gurley, Aaron Donald, Andrew Whitworth? Not mentioning the other defensive players that were just traded, and skill position players that made Goff look good, the Bills roster is very thin. I'm also under the opinion that coach made Goff look really good. He called everything and gave Goff very little leeway.
  8. Looking at the teams depth chart, I'm stating the obvious, but they're really thin in a number of key positions. I attribute the run to playoffs having more to do with solid coaching, pride, and a dumb luck, than the overall talent on the roster. All indications were that it was a tank year, like the 76ers, we were all to trust the process. I give a lot of credit to the players, in not accepting losing as a forgone conclusion and over achieving. I'm really impressed with what management has done with amassing draft capital. Now they just can't blow it and draft an Okafor, let's find healthy versions of Simmons and Embiid. We should take advantage of all the hype surrounding this QB class and get cornerstone pieces in place with the corresponding drop of other positions. Draft BPA and don't get cute. Two positions that make everyone around them better, OL and DL should be the focus, with skill position players on offense mixed in rounds 2 and 3. It may not be sexy, but it's what will build sustained success. This would potentially allow McCoy to put up one more monster year before Father Time comes a calling, and hopefully provide depth on DL helping the DBs and LBs. This could be the start of dethroning the evil empire. Let's see if this front office can help speed up sending BB and TB12 into the sunset. I apologize for the Philadelphia references but I've been here since the early 2000s and have seen how Eagles have been successful (In envy), got bad, rebuilt and changed philosophies. And it all started with coaching and a cohesive FO. Think about it, Reid made Alex Smith look good. The success guys like Feeley, Garcia, Vick, Foles and now Wentz had can be attributed to stability. They all had a very solid pass blocking OLs and a stable OC/front office, for the most part. Mr. Beane please find the next Jason Peters (this one stings), John Runyan or Tra Thomas, so when you do find the QB to lead this team they are in a position to succeed. Finding guys like Rodgers, Watson, Wilson, Cousins and Mahomes outside of the traditional top ten gives me hope. In short, lets not be the Rams of 2011 and 2012 and hopefully they acquire some foundational players.
  9. Hackenberg was also a second round pick, a lot less risk. Still a high price, but not crippling. They don't need to get cute. Too many holes on the team. Build in the trenches and draft BPA. Does this Bio look familiar: Height: 6-3 Weight: 231lbs PROS: Very strong arm that can make all the throws. Compact and quick throwing motion. Can really hurt a defense with his feet. Powerful runner who can break tackles outside the pocket. Ridiculously quick acceleration in a short area. Has good velocity on his deep outs, which is a staple NFL throw. Known as a team leader. Leads his receivers well on slants and routes that look for yards after the catch. Fantastic on the run and passing on roll outs. Has ridiculous upside as an NFL quarterback. Nearly 2,000 rushing yards and 29 rushing TD’s in his career. CONS: Actual on-field production leaves a lot to be desired, but played on a lot of bas Washington football teams. Has only been playing in a pro-style offense, previously played in the option in his first season. Still very raw as a pocket passer. Didn’t really improve much from junior to senior seasons like expected. Has had quite a few big-time stinker games. Has a career losing record, 16-25, at a position that’s directly tied to winning. Still needs working reading coverages and picking up blitzes. Who do you think this is? Hint a former #8 pick in another over hyped QB draft.
  10. I think this guy surpasses Bradford in the "stealing money" department. At least Bradford is a tough guy and has elite talent, just been snake bitten.
  11. Why do I feel this kid is going to go the way of Jake Locker? He was another gym shorts phenom.
  12. They led the league in scoring margin at +10.8, NE was second at 9.4. If that's overrated I'd like to know what your definition of good is? NFL Team Average Scoring Margin More Team Stats...
