A mass shooting with the potential to be as big as the one in Vegas was averted this weekend thanks to Illinois gun laws. There were hundreds and hundreds of people at the beach this weekend that this guy's hotel overlooked. The police were able to seize his guns and arrest him because he didn't possess the required Illinois gun owner card, thanks to a hotel employee spotting the high powered rifle perched in the window. The good guy with the gun follows the law. The bad guy with the gun does not. Which allows police to get the bad guys off the street. Chicago police seize between 7,000-12,000 illegally owned guns per year. And with that illegal possession, comes the ability to get the gang member off the street. https://chicago.cbslocal.com/2021/07/06/keegan-casteel-w-chicago-lakeshore-hotel-guest-weapons-charges-rifle-handgun-navy-pier/

It is cheaper if you sign up for the college plan. But you do not need to sign up for the college plan to buy the streaming version. AT&T owns Sunday ticket now, and I've bought it through the Amazon Fire Stick for the past two seasons... Pro Tip - If you pay for NFL Sunday Ticket as an out of towner, you don't get games that are live on TV in your area. So when the Bills are televised, you won't get the game on the Ticket. You can sign up for a free trial of the various streaming options that would have the game live. There may be enough to cycle through to get all of the Bills nationally broadcast games this year. And I don't want to hear crap about it being unethical to take advantage of free trials. It is freaking free.

Another week, another mass murder

We have a violence problem in America. Period. The problem isn't either white supremacy, or gang violence. Gang violence or police brutality. It's all of the above. When people are up in arms over white supremacy, it's the supremacy part that's the problem. But it's almost like some people only hear white and take it as a personal attack. It's not. If you guys seriously care about black kids being shot, maybe stop equating blackness with the root of the crime in order to deny there is a problem with white supremacy. Gang culture is the root of the majority of crimes you guys seem to be blaming on blackness. In the case of white supremacy, gang violence and police brutality, the violent behaviors are the problem. -

Sounds very Freudian, haven't had my subconscious state analysed on a message board in a long time. Very scientific... So it's basically all of the Meatheads that have to die, not the Archie Bunkers, before the fallacy of racism can be put to pasture. Got it. Sorry for the delay in my response. I was busy spreading communism and trying to make the next generation dependent on me today. -
Prices are on the rise, you'd be surprised how many homes are over 300k in the city itself these days. But it was surprising to learn that residents within the city pay a much smaller percentage of property tax that the suburbs.

Like most of skepticism against the existance of racism in this thread, it comes down to a bunch of middle aged white guys feelings. -

Is your concern about a new breed of welfare queens cheating the system, or that not everyone's genealogy may be unearthed? The descendants of the 4 million black Americans who were freed in 1865, just 155 years ago is a good place to start. Sorry you haven't been able to determine who built your parents house. Do you know who your great grandparents are? Can you prove it? I'm going to guess the answer is yes. -

There's many resources, but the Mormon's have done a really good job providing resources and tools, including the digitization of census records going back to the 1600's. There's a lot of information available https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Quick_Guide_to_African_American_Records -

I want to go back and talk about where I agree with you. I think anybody can fall I to the trap of focusing exclusively on the negative and making excuses for their lack of success. I really like Sean McDermott's "be your best self" life philosophy. No matter what life throws at you, you have to believe in your ability to dig deep, work hard and succeed. A personal philosophy that looks at the good and the potential in yourself and other people, while valuing hard work and success, is not at all incompatible with fighting for a fairer world for all. -

Luckily for dumb people like me who don't know how the world works, really smart people (not me clearly) have digitized the entire record of births and census records of our entire nation. -

Way to focus on any and all negativities while ignoring the potential to bring massive hope and empowerment to generations of children. Do you think black people who currently smoke weed would be pissed off that their weed smoking is sending kids to school? Do you think mixed race people have not been discriminated against? And that having a white parent erases their black roots? -

No sarcasm. I am not an expert in genealogy, but there are detailed records of who was owned in the censuses going way back and there are detailed birth records. The 3/5th compromise was so that slave holding states could get more representation, so they made sure to document their population. Let's assume it is possible. And I think tax on cannabis as it is being legalized is a huge untapped revenue source, and at the same time most white Americans who would object to giving black people reparations would not be taxed for it (unless they choose to buy pot.) -

Yes! I can not agree with the second half of your statement more. So we actually agree on a solution. I do believe in reparations, and think that black Americans who were descendants of enslaved people should have guaranteed federally subsidized college education at state or community colleges for the next 100 years. And I think we as a nation can pay for that program with a federal tax on recreational and medical marijuana. Think of the hope and belief in the future that would be instilled in our nation's children. -

Here's an alternative hypothesis. Your refusal to to look at the objective and measurable aspects of the economic and legal ways that systemic racism has in the past and continues in the present to negatively impact black people, while pretending that it is all subjective liberal drivel, is endemic of your inability to separate your personal feelings and refusal to be blamed from the actual facts of the matter. You pay taxes, you refuse to be responsible for anyones poor choices. Therefore there is no way that you are responsible for unequal application of economic and legal treatment of anyone else. Therefore it must not exist, and to suggest that anyone is owed anything for tangible, measure harms is trying to stoke a race war... Ok, got it. "try immersing yourself in diversity and stop letting politicians tell you how your world works. See it with your own eyes. Ask and learn. Stop believing cheap flimsy narratives. Free you mind, and the rest will follow." From the guy who thinks none of the discrimination of the 19th or 20th century has any impact on the lives of people today and blames the entirety of the wealth gap on unwed black mothers, you should learn to take your own advice. -

Hate in the individual isn't required for the system work unfairly. Algorithms can execute discriminatory policies without the capacity to feel, let alone hate. I mean, you can tell yourself that. There's virtually no evidence to back that up. If there is I'd love to read it. -

It's not necessarily an either or situation. If we are strictly talking about breaking out of poverty, absolutely having a two parent household plays a huge role in most cases. There is big a difference between breaking out of poverty, and traversing the massive wealth gap created from hundreds of years of unpaid slavery, a hundred years of segregation and discrimination followed by 50 years of attempts to root out the remnants of discrimination. -

The wealth gap between black and white households in 1960 was 700%. A relatively small amount of black households then were single parent. The wealth gap today is still 650%. If single parent households are to blame, then the two parent black households would have closed the wealth gap with two parent white households. That simply has not happen. The income gap is vast, as is wealth and home ownership gap (for two parent black households.) Contrary to earlier comments in this thread, I am not motivated by communism allegiances and have no hopes of destroying America. I think there are tangible financial harms done to black families that need to be repaid, and my hopes are that with amends will come a more united country.
