Matt Araiza accused of rape, served with a lawsuit.
ColoradoBills replied to bill8164's topic in Off the Wall
That's weird. I don't have a paywall and my brothers back in Buffalo already read the article. I apologize to anyone who can't get to it. My first reaction is: If this is true, I feel for the girl and her family. It looks to be a real mess up by the cops and university. We will have to wait for more details. -

GTFOOH. -
I just see no way they go with 4 TEs. So cut one and you are at 53.

The importance of a true number one WR
ColoradoBills replied to Marlton Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I do know how important the Outside Depth WR#3 is. I'm not sure about the #1. -
I do agree if anyone is signed this year it would be Knox. His extra cost would be minimal this year. All it would be is a portion of his signing bonus. If they wanted to do that Beane could have done it at any time in the last few months. It just seems to me that now that Knox is back and they made the Dawkins move as part of a signing deal it would be done already. If they are waiting it will be next Tuesday IMO. As to the $8.5M to $10M after cutdown I see it a lot less than what you say. The PS alone takes up another $3.3.

The $207k cost is the standard minimum for all PS players. The vast majority of ST players play for that amount. What is an option is for teams to pay more than that. Positions have no bearing on this. Last year (if I remember correctly) the Bills paid a couple or so players about 20%-30% more. This season a guy like Barkley (if he goes to PS like I expect) could easily be one of the guys getting more. Guys like Love and others have been with the team (mostly on PS) for years tend to be eligible for more. We will all know next Thursday!

I'm not too proud to take a victory lap on the Dawkins restructure. I said he was the guy in a couple of threads. Anyone who visits Spotrac could see his contact screamed for a restructure more than any other player. I'll put the lampshade back on now. IMO what happens going forward is after the dust settles (Beane is the only one who knows exactly what that means) he will have enough money for small moves and injury replacements with just enough cash left to sign OBJ if the need comes around November. Besides Josh, the biggest injury risk would be to the WRs. OBJ will be available at the perfect time if it's needed! Facing a lot of tough money decisions next season, if there is an extra few million to carry over, it will not be a bad thing IMO.

No need to be insulting. It seems to me you want to look at draft picks as the end all of resources used to build a team. In some way it seems you believe that Beane is not drafting as well on the offense as you would like. Evidently Davis and Knox are not skilled enough for your expectations. My opinion is different. Beane has not used FA as well as he could the last few years to build a DL. I'm of the opinion that this year he may have got the DL right and that going forward it will not need as many draft picks. If one was to use cap money as a guide to how much "resources" are used of the offense versus defense, I believe next season will be extremely lopsided toward the offense (especially if Knox is re-signed like I expect him to be). I know that Poyer, Edmunds and others on the D side of the ball need new contracts but when it comes to cap space, I expect we will see the D taking the brunt of cost savings hits. I'm also of the opinion we will see some higher draft picks used to retool some of the O needs next year compared to the D. I can't guarantee that, it's just what I see happening. OL, TE, WR all have a good chance of being addressed in the draft IMO. As to Josh running the ball, I'm pretty sure what we are seeing in camp and preseason is a good indicator that the run game will become more of a RB situation versus a QB situation. Josh will turn it on still but only in game winning/playoff game situations. While it could be debated that at this specific time the D may look to overwhelm the O in resources, I believe a long-term view is much more balanced.

OK, but that's different then the statement you made. You insinuated that of the players Beane drafted there should be more "pro bowlers". I just ask, how many more?
-
OK. You used the "drafted" player to conveniently leave out Diggs. Every one will agree (Beane included) Ford was a bust. Of all the other 3rd round and later picks that were used on the offense since Josh Allen (I'm sure you have to look them up), what is your pro bowl caliber percentage chart that tells you many. How many other "pro bowl" caliber players should he have drafted? What is the GM +/- you are using to compare Beane? Please show your work. If you can convince me of your facts, I'll give you a "like".

Yeppers. Guy was hurt more than not. They will go with Knox and the "others" this year and draft another if Knox signs an extension.

Bills have to pass on guys like this. I for one believe a late day 2 or early day 3 pick next year will be used for another TE.

Preseason week 3: Bills at Panthers 8/26 7pm (local or NFL+)
ColoradoBills replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Still hoping between his play (both WR and ST) this week that this young man can make the 53. -
All those small $s guaranteed is also one reason why Spotrac is more accurate than OTC. OTC system won't count those numbers until the player is cut. The other is Dead Money. OTC never has all the players on it that need to be. Currently OTC has 14 Dead Money players and Spotrac has 26. I know it's all little stuff, but it bugs my OCD.
-
I sure did. Used last year's numbers. I will edit my post. Thanks
-
Thanks for being the guy to post what has to be said every year. FWIW PS players get paid weekly which comes to $207k per year for each player. There are 16 of them. $207,000 x 16 = $3,312,000.

Direct quote from Beane today. PS also cost a couple of million nowadays. Tre already had a restructure last year and so have others. It's time for Dion to get his.
-
It's getting to the point where it's pretty obvious he won't make the Rams game. He will be missed. But the next 3 are against Tannehill, Tua and Lamar. Not the biggest outside and deep passing threats. Bills getting Tre back after game 4 won't be too bad. At least it won't be against Mahomes and Rodgers. Get him healthy if need be, it's a long season.

LAMP - My younger son's first FB game
ColoradoBills replied to Jon in Pasadena's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't have a son and I'm sure you are proud. The bolded is the inevitable posts turning this into an Edmunds thread. -
It's a great trait of Beane. He tries very hard to learn from his mistakes. He doesn't make excuses or shift the blame. I can't ask for more than that!

The biggest difference is roster spots. A PUP guy can go from PUP/Active (before the 53 cutdown) to PUP/Reserve without using a roster spot. A guy on IR before the 53 cutdown who stays on IR cannot come back during the season. IF they keep the guy on the active roster at the 53 cutdown date he can come back (8 total for the season). This is why very often another vet (usually a depth player) will take a cut at the 53 cutdown date and immediately re-sign once the guy(s) going back on IR get moved onto it.

Preseason week 3: Bills at Panthers 8/26 7pm (local or NFL+)
ColoradoBills replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
I was thinking if he was going to sign one of those guys, he would have done it already. Restructure or something, something could be a trade, I guess. I'm not one to imagine in any way I know more than the guys at OBD. I get a kick on trying to guess what they are thinking. Sounds like you do too. -
You are right. What I'm not sure of was he talking about activating him while he is still on the Active/PUP or Reserve/PUP or both. I took it he would need more time if he was activated before the cutdown, but I could easily be wrong. If what you are thinking is true, then it would be game 6 at the earliest.
