The Now Moment

I became a 3 sport athlete...training/practice was very time consuming. Everyone’s experience is different. Just giving a different perspective.

Look, I’m not telling you what to do. I’d never do that. I’m simply showing you an example of someone who was in your son’s position before and wished his Dad didn’t push sports on him. It pulled me away from reality my entire childhood. I was so ignorant growing up because my Dad told me to care about “pleasures.” These pleasures left little time for me to learn and develop a greater knowledge base. I took off the virtual reality glasses later to see the world’s problems and America’s appauling problems but I feel so protected and blinded my whole life because of sports. A saying goes something like, “if someone doesn’t have a deeper sense of meaning in life they rely on pleasures to distract themselves.” I feel more myself than i’ve ever been because I broke free of it’s distraction. I feel like I have a deeper meaning now. I love my Dad but I would be better off today if he hadn’t brought me to all of those sporting events and cheered me into joining them. I just wanted to make him happy. I was 8 and loved my Dad. I look back and wish he’d let me explore as I wanted to. Maybe my high school years wouldn’t have been so depressing. Just giving you a different perspective from a young adult’s point of view. Have a great day ?

I’m just giving the gentleman a different perspective from someone who had the same thing done to him.

No need for therapy thank you. The more we indulge in meaningless things in this life, the further we are from reality.

Don’t allow the kid to invest himself into something that matters not to the real issues of the world. I grew up being taught by my Dad and while I love his intention, it gave me a late start on focusing on the real issues in life. Every second that I had free, I was looking up highlights and stats and watching old Super Bowls. I had such passion. I ask myself every day now, how much further ahead I would be as a caring person if I would have used that energy to learn more of the things that actually matter. I’ve disconnected from sports and taken those video game glasses off as well. Stopped listening to news channels and found the world to be a hot mess. If you want to hide your child from the world, then I suggest you do as you please. If you want to prepare them for the world, let them be creative and explore their inner artist (great way to express yourself). Let them stay curious and be scientific! It will only help them prepare for their future problems. Wish you and your son well!

A bad habit I’m trying to break

I watch the replays online and check the box scores. I don’t have tv, waste of time.

It will be the downfall of man someday. More money, more power and too often more corrupt. Haven't been to a game in years. Probably won't for several more. I like the game but the business is owned by a bunch of old bags of greed that I'd rather not support.

If you are giving up next years 1 like the Frank Clark deal, I’m out. You have a talented class of players coming in next season with a lot of the strength positions looking like they are in line with our potential needs. Free agency could include a plethora of talented DEs. The defense wasn’t the problem last season, a DE doesn’t put us over the top. Doesn’t mean we couldn’t use another at the right time and at the right cost. A much improved offense does. I understand that we added pieces there but we have no idea if those players will gel and pan out. We aren’t in the same position as KC. We didn’t have a top offense last season. Don’t get rid of most valuable assets before the offense proves something.

I was making a comparison to the Clark deal which would be a measuring stick for clowney. I don’t think a 2nd and a 4th would do it. It’s easy to come up with a hypothetical but I think they are asking for more than that based on the Clark deal. I’m in a don’t trade the first position because the offense has too many question marks to give up that much draft capital and cap space for a defensive player.

I absolutely refuse to give up a 1st and a second or third plus a 100 million dollar deal before we know what the offense looks like. We could be looking for a LT next year. We could also just select a DE in the first round and keep our picks and money. Why cant we go to the playoffs with this roster? Remember what we had when we went two years ago? It just seems like a rushed, expensive deal that could handcuff our cap space. Our offense was terrible. If it doesn’t get better we will need to address it through the draft next year but we wouldn’t be able to do that if we make a move like this before seeing what we have. For a team that’s looking for long term sustainable success, i don’t see them giving up those assets.

Who is willing to give up Frank Clark type of compensation for Clowney before we know what we have on offense? Plus we’d have to give him a $100 million deal. They aren’t ready for that type of move imo. Learn what your offense can do this season and take your home run swings next season if it’s appropriate to do so.

Ok...and they have an entire offseason plus to find a guy to fill 1 spot...nothing to be nervous about. With what Beane has done and attempted to do this offseason, I think we can trust that he will do what’s in his power to fill the hole. Some were losing their heads having only one player on the books at the position for next year and now we have a starting quality player on the books for two years. Dont know now why you were talking to me like a toddler. 1 player isn’t exactly hard to fill especially when you look at potential free agents next season and potential draftable players at the position. Beane filled many holes in one offseason. I think he can manage adding this piece next year haha.

Addiction is a slippery slope as well imo. Addictions can take over people’s lives, just saying.

But the person I quoted had suggested trading for Rudolph, my point was to wait and see what we have before we throw draft picks at a pricey player. That’s where it becomes bashing. Give the new faces a chance before you overlook them. His drops? He rarely dropped passes and I stated he was in a system with talented receivers that gave him very limited opportunity. Fans quick look at the stats and get disappointed or skeptical but it’s much more than that. Like I said, there are many more factors that play into stats but his abilities are what matter. Instead of looking for the next high priced option to trade for, why don’t we see what he can do first?

I mean they had enormous WR talent at the college level and ran an offense around those receivers. The air raid type of system put 4 wrs and a rb out on the field much of the time. I think his his abilities are what matter and not his stats. He fits as a receiving target here where he can utilize his speed. Just hate how fans put a player down based on stats or the college they went to. There’s so many factors that come into play that are being overlooked that can drastically change a player’s production in college. Let’s watch him with Josh Allen throwing him the rock and see what he can do in this offense.

I hope Knox makes all the haters eat crow so bad. Not even giving the guy a chance to show what he has before bashing him. A third round pick is a fairly valuable pick for a tight end. Some of the best tight ends in the league were taken in the middle rounds of the draft. Travis Kelce is maybe the best in the league right now and he was a third round pick...why don't we wait to see what we have in the players we brought in before making any other moves?

Maybe now some fans can stop being so nervous about the DE position.

Are you implying that being a nerd/book reader/numbers cruncher/intellectual is a bad thing?

A lot of worrying happening here. Take a breath. I have to disagree with you about Lawson. He was much better last season. His sack numbers did not show how good of an end he was. He hit the Qb 12 times, had 5 passes defended and 2 forced fumbles, all career highs. He was an actual disruptor at times and gained some respect from the coaching staff. He only played 43% of snaps. He improved and I expect him to improve more this season. He may not get a massive contract but if he improves he could still be signed as a rotational piece.

True but he still has the ability to play both spots due to his ability to beat one on ones. Hes certainly more of a 1 tech but I’m sure they will mix him in on both sides.

I think it’s doable next offseason to fill those holes. Hughes could come back, Shaq could take another step and resign, Murphy could prove he can stay healthy and return to 9 sack form. More will certainly need to be added. Looking at them to address it aggressively next offseason after they see what their offense looks like and they’ll figure out their needs moving forward. Beane will be on the hunt for any talent that moves.

If it’s a trade, I’d rather not pay a ransom like the Frank Clark trade and wait until next year to find a guy or remake the position entirely. There looks to be a solid free agent class next year and there will be quality ones in next year’s draft as well. I hope they don’t overpay for a defensive player and give up a next year’s 1st before we know what our offense looks like. Why handcuff ourselves like that? I do do think they may look for a smaller deal or a waiver pickup to add more depth.

Hoping they add a few rookie edge rushers next year to add to the young front 7 they are building. He can play both and I think Jordan Phillips can play both as well. It’s nice to have some versatile depth.
