Willis crossed the line
Dawgg replied to HereComesTheReignAgain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I actually think it's rather funny now. It has been fairly apparent for quite some time that he is a moron... but this at least is entertaining. -
It works BOTH ways. One of the reasons McCargo was so successful is because Williams and Lawson consistently wreaked havoc on opposing offensive lines. I think McCargo benefited a lot more from his teammates than the other way around. What did Scottie Pippen do after he left the Bulls? McCargo was NOT a first round talent and certainly was not worth the price the Bills paid to trade up for him. Will he be a servicable NFL player? Jury's still out, but he may very well be. Impact player? Doubtful. VERY doubtful. If only they had taken Jones-Drew with that pick. Hindsight is 20/20, oh well.

Can't see Quinn going past Detroit. -
Weren't you the one who frowned upon Moulds for the same thing? Does this change your feelings towards your boy Wilis?

Bills may host 2007 Regular Season game in Europe
Dawgg replied to MikeH's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why would this be a bad thing? The team is young and on the rise (we hope), plays in a very small market and this is a chance to get on national TV and gain some worldwide exposure as an NFL franchise. If that costs us one home game, so be it. The NFL will compensate the Bills for lost revenue anyway. The potential gains far outweigh the potential loss IMO. -

Greater internatinal exposure (greater exposure PERIOD) for the Buffalo Bills is never a bad thing. -
Are you serious? Over the years, Warner turned in to a turnover MACHINE.

Stop the crazy talk. HE IS A ROOKIE! How many games did Troy Aikman win in his first year? I think it was 1. Leinart absolutely CAN make the big throws, especially playing in Arizona where cold weather and wind is a non-factor.
-
Unlike the Bills, Pats management wasn't stupid enough to promise NOT to franchise him at the end of the season, removing any leverage the team has in contract negotiations. As a result, I find it hard to imagine Samuel not being at least franchised for one more year if not extended for many more.
-
Yes, Leinart is a loser He has only won at every level in which he has played. The kid is a rookie and you're ready to throw him under a bus. My $ says Leinart will be a winner sooner rather than later. Just watch.

Plenty of starting caliber running backs have been drafted in rounds 2-4 (heck we even found Henry in the 2nd!). If we can find one, that would be a huge bonus. If Willis were to leave, his successor has 1 full year in the system. If he doesn't leave, we have a very good 2-headed backfield. Obviously, I would only endorse this strategy if Marv & Co see what they think is a future NFL starter.
-
Perhaps a Norwood type back in the 3rd. Quality backs can be found throughout the first day. I don't care where they find him, but I think they should find him this year.
-
RB is not a pressing need but it IS a need. There are only a few RBs than can handle the entire load by themselves... Willis is not one of them. Put a Maroney/D'Angelo Williams type back will alongside Willis watch the team's record improve dramatically.

Can Bills Draft Jarrett from USC?

Don't forget Tommie Harris of the Bears taken with the very next pick. -

A first round WR was a need THEN. It's not a need now. -
Weak response- It doesn't really matter "why" the teams drafted them. What matters is how the 2-headed backfield has translated to wins on the field. In each and every one of those examples, both running backs have been KEY contributors and their individual efforts were the deciding factor in some key wins during the course of the season. Let's also not forget Dunn and Norwood. And Deshaun Foster and D'Angelo Williams.

I actually think Willis will have a career year, come into next year in the best shape of his life and finally show us why he has the skills to be an elite back. Afterall, it's his contract year

It's a self-fulfilling prophecy in a sense. 3 of the 4 criteria is based on having a running back with vision. 1) Yards per Carry of the running back (Frank Gore is much better than WM) 2) # carries for 10+ yards (again a lot of that is dependent on a RB with VISION) 3) Percentage of runs on third or fourth down, two yards or less to go, that achieved a first down. This is laughable because Willis is not a particularly good short yardage back IMO.

Living in SF for most of the year, I have watched virtualy every 49ers game this season. Did I break down the film and assign a grade to each offensive lineman, normalize that grade to their individual defensive opponents and calculate a composite grade for the overall line? PLEASE... it doesn't take an astute football eye to realize this fact: Frank Gore is a far superior running back to Willis McGahee. Did he face inferior competition? Perhaps. Having watched both teams this season at length, it is pretty apparent who the better player is. Here are some stats that matter. YPC: Willis - 3.8. Only Jamal Lewis and Edge were worse among RBs with > 250 attempts 100 yard games: Willis - 2... tied with Jamal Lewis for fewest among RBs with > 250 attempts. He's an average, inconsistent back. While I am not personal friend of Marv's the latter is true. I don't have to prove anything to you...

For as long a diatribe as yours, it fails to make a single point other than nitpick at the schedule differential between the two opponents. Make no mistake the 49ers offensive line is nothing to write home about. Also make no mistake that when facing one of the worst run defenses in the league in Tennessee, Willis had a decent game, nothing spectacular. As you yourself pointed out, against some of the worst run defenses in the NFL, Frank Gore not only did well, he tore it up. Marv himself knows full well that Willis is not the long-term solution at RB. Perhaps you will join the party soon enough. Until then, continue with your diatribes.

This McGahee crap is getting old...

It's pretty apparent that you have a fondness for players with great potential and little production. You were clamoring for Rob Johnson from the get-go and even after repeated failures on the field and a clear lack of production, you were the first to stand up with excuses... 3 teams later, Rob Johnson was soon out of the league. Now it appears as though Willis is your new crush -

I said pick a running back OR an impact player on defense. I definitely think that the priority should go to the defense, but if a Laurence Maroney clone is available at #19, he would help this team A LOT more than any WR would. Wide receivers take years to assimilate to the NFL game, with very few exceptions. Running backs, on the other hand, are capable of coming in and making an impact right away. D'Angelo Williams, Jerrious Norwood, and Maroney singlehandedly won games for their teams.
