Biggest sliver lining part of the trade: We can now stop buying Digg's God awful Bleu Cheese and hot sauce.

[POLL] Should The Bills Trade Up For A WR?
BuffaloBillyG replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall
No. Not at that cost. I can see a small 2-3 spot hop. But many of the moves being made have appeared to be geared to the 2025 off season. I think we see how the draft falls, hold onto those resources and select a WR this year in the first 2 days. I don't think the trade changes the urgency, despite the knee-jerk reaction it will create for fans -
I think this is a really good write up, Alpha. Well thought out and detailed. I don't agree with every point, however the gist of the entire post I do. I, too hate the cap hits for the moment, however it does clear a TON off the books for 2025. I think as fans we get too locked into short term and forget there are other seasons on the horizon as well. As of right now, this move provides Beane an extra 2nd round pick and about $27M in cap space in 2025. Those may both change but that is huge both for next season and this season if Beane wishes to sign guys with a void year tacked on. I also think this may have been the plan at the end of the year, or at least something they discussed with Diggs in his exit interview. It was brushed off br Diggs "being Stef" but right after the season he made a point to say he was ready for whatever" several times. He understood the business. I don't think this was anything that caught Diggs off guard

5th biggest, actually. Not even the biggest of this season, either. https://sports.betmgm.com/en/blog/nfl-history-biggest-dead-salary-cap-hits/

Wait, Diggs was traded?!?!?!
-
What part of NO TRADE is confusing you here?
-
Just curious...but why? What do you see from that trade that would change the first 23 picks of a no trade mock? IRL, sure the Bills may move up...but his is no trade and the Bills nor Texans have picked yet.
-
This Diggs trade doesn't change a thing for me. I still would like to see them trade out of round 1. Pick up an extra day 2 pick this year and some MORE picks next year and get that WR in round 2. The class is deep enough.

We can still win a Super Bowl this year
BuffaloBillyG replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think if we go back and look at that God awful Chiefs message board from back when they traded Hill many would have been saying their window was over... rebuild as well. They went on to win the next 2 Super Bowls. So, to your point, I agree that anything is possible and with Allen we always have the possibility of catching fire late and running the table. This will be a new look team come week 1. Many of the vets we have grown accustomed to seeing as team leaders and core players are gone. We have seen who steps up to take their place both on the field and in the locker room as leaders. Team captain vote this year should be telling. I think much of what we will see for the 2024 Bills will be the formation of the "new core" that with emerge going forward to the next window of opportunity. Playoffs would be a success this year IMO. -
Congratulations. You just figured out what playoff football is all about.
-
Hopefully, this Diggs trade brings people to the board faster and picks get made quicker😂😂
-
Nah. I believe it's more they finally realized that the old "run it back, we're close" just wasn't working. Let's see what they do from now to week 1, though.
-
Short term...D However we now have an extra 2nd round pick and this trade clears about $27M off next year's Salary Cap. Let's see what they do with all the assets the trade brought first.
-
Let's see what the draft brings. Revisit what we need after that. We also have money coming June 2nd and may not be done making moves. Patience. We don't play a game for a while yet.
-
If I'm reading it correctly, this trade appears to have opened up about $27M in 2025 cap space. I'm not mad at that at all.
-
Keenen Allen was just traded for a 4th rounder. Getting a 2025 2nd rounder isn't bad in comparison. Both aging WRs. $31M of dead space is what it is. Now go look at what it does for the cap space in 2025. This is a move that hurts now but may pay dividends for a long time to come. Let the plan play out. Best case it works well. Worst case they messed up, we lose a year and many that want McD/Beane gone are closer to their wish.

So for this off-season we have moved on from: Diggs Davis Morse Poyer Hyde White All "cornerstones" of a team that couldn't get past Kansas City when it counted. All have been either Pro Bowl or All Pro. Each one a team captain. I can respect the effort and everything those guys brought to Buffalo but in the end it just wasn't enough and I think Beane and McDermott recognized that Calling this anything other than a year where we rebuild and hope to stay competitive is foolish. Many moves we have made focus on gaining cap space for next season. And we really don't have that many free agents to re-sign. My bet is they are gearing up to make a TON of big moves next year and build excitement heading with the new stadium on the horizon. I don't expect any major move up the draft board. Let's see how the plan plays out.
-
Wow. Um. Ok then. FWIW, Kincaid is now a MUST grab in fantasy. Big move...I'll wait to see how the plan plays out before I react too much.

I see it a different way. There was 1 move and 1 non move this off-season that may mean more than at first glance when it comes to the future of Diggs next season. The Non Move: Notice even with having very little cap space this year one thing they have NOT done is restructure Stef's contract again. Doing that could have opened about an extra $13M in space for this season while kicking the can down the road. Not doing it means they are keeping the money where it's at and giving them a year to prepare for him to be moved either by trade or release at less long term financial risk. Now, they "could" still restructure him if something pressing happens, but sitting at almost $8M below the cap and getting $10M from the Tre White release on June 2nd means they are pretty set. The Move: Thought this flew under the radar a bit. But when they restructured Josh's deal they did NOT do it for max value of what they could have done. I believe Beane left $7M on the table. This would be key as that's money that will not increase the cap for next year and would soften the blow of a couple of large dead cap hits (namely Stef and Von) if needed. Right now, the Bills hold the cards on Stef's future in Buffalo. If he bounces back there's a chance that he may be here next year. But they have given themselves the flexibility to move on if what we saw on the back half of last year becomes the norm.
-
A 4.87 40? Mike McDaniel would NEVER allow that😂😂 (But that is a good time for a DT)
-
I have liked what Diggs has brought to the field year in and year out. I appreciate all of his dedication and efforts. But, yes his act is wearing thin and as long as we get his production replaced I won't be sad when he goes.

Pierce really does come across as a build the trenches guy. He wants mean and nasty and to remake the old time "Raider Way". If successful, he could be the Dan Campbell of the AFC.
