What were the odds of a team winning 6 in a row?

I think the Bills can win thanks to them being at home and a mini bye should've helped, but the fact that the Saints are on a long winning streak has nothing to do with it.

If they don't stop the run it will be a long and frustrating afternoon. Nothing is more infuriating than watching the opposing team run it down your throats with no answer for it.... as we saw way too many times with Rex and his defense.

this isn't rocket science. in a league with parity the odds go down each week that a team can keep a streak going. its not a hard concept. the longer a streak goes the worse the odds get becuz there's just not a great probability of a team keeping up such a streak in a league like the nfl.... so ya. there is a little something behind that. but whatever. argue for the sake of it if you feel like it.

NFL Insiders predict: Can Bills pull off the upset?

What's your top upset pick for Week 10?

Dan Graziano, NFL writer: Bills over Saints. I like Buffalo's chances for a bounce-back at home with a few extra days of rest. Last Thursday's game was uncharacteristic of this year's Bills team, which has avoided turnovers and dumb penalties, but didn't do so in the loss to the Jets. I'm willing to believe the Bills just laid an egg and will be better in their next game, which will likely feature the Bills debut of Kelvin Benjamin. And the Saints have to lose again at some point, right?

Mike Sando, senior NFL writer: Bills over Saints. I'll take the Bills to bounce back at home against New Orleans in a game that could feature chilly temperatures and rain. That's no knock on the Saints, however. They'll win 10 to 13 games this season as long as they keep allowing under 22 points per game. That has been their track record in the Sean Payton-Drew Brees era.

grazianos take is kinda where i'm at. i'm not really all that optimistic going into sunday but I like the odds of an nfl team not being able to win 7 in a row. i'll play the odds here.

My new thing after a Loss -  Be bitchy for 24 hours then move on.

right.... I think this got easier for me once I got a family and my wife wouldn't tolerate my moods. lol..... I did find myself pouting and wandering aimlessly around the house a bit on sunday. but that's just a crappy scenario... Thursday night beatdown. only game for media to cover next day. then no team to watch on sunday. but unlike some around here i'm gonna choose to judge them on 8 games as a whole and not the most recent debacle.  thank god that's all in the rear view!

the way I see it... before the season if somebody would have come to me and said "your bills will be 5-3 at the mid way point" I would've taken that all day everyday after the turbulent offseason we had. so that's where I sit. enjoying a good start and cautiously optimistic for the rest of the season.

meh.  i didn't expect playoffs this year, so whatever happens, happens.  it's all about the future.

    future cakewalk bitches.

What I don't get is the people actively getting in their own ways about actually enjoying the season. we may meltdown. its happened in the past. it sucks. but for me its all the more reason to enjoy a hot start and milk the season for everything I can get out of it. be entertained while they are still in the hunt.

like why do people bother watching if they have their minds made up they aren't gonna enjoy it or be "sold" on it until week 16. what a miserable way to watch a season.

No, but only because I'm not good at imagining things.   And I haven't seen Kamara.

To Brown's credit, he's coachable, and the team gets him prepared every week.   That limits the damage that gets done in the middle.   He was drafted where he was because he didn't have good speed for the position.   We're seeing it now.

he's really good and really quick.... on pace for 74 catches, 10 td and 1200 scrimmage yds out of the backfield.

I agree and I think why "the process" has been so important is because McDerm has known the talent is not fully in house.  I am curious what becomes of Dawkins and Conor McDermott, are they the future Bills tackles.  McDermott has been untouchable with cuts yet he doesn't play any games or is even dressed.  I also tend to believe most of the LBs on our roster might not make it to next year.  I don't see Brown staying as our MLB, in fact the surprise first round pick I could even see being the replacement.

    6 minutes ago, Shaw66 said:

Yeah, I agree with this completely.  McD knows he isn't likely to get another Keuchly, but he needs someone who moves better than Brown.  That position is almost as important to his defense as QB is to the offense.

I know absolutely nothing about Conor McDermott - don't even recognize the name, but you make a good point.   I think Glenn and Wood will stay, and probably Richie.   Th right side of the line will be changing.

is anyone else already having nightmares of seeing brown running with that super odd and choppy stride of his trailing 5 yds behind alvin kamara  while being horribly out of position everytime kamara releases out of the backfield on every third down this week?

Our run defense has been smoke and mirrors and very misleading since most teams are able to pass the ball at will against us and the Jets simply stayed committed since they were manhandling us in the trenches.

Problem with a team like the Saints though is they do both well and likely be able to set up some deadly play action passes downfield against us.

I know you've proclaimed that you are rarely wrong but yet again this is nonsense. even after last weeks debacle our defense is still tied for 7th in yards allowed per carry. that's a stat that has nothing to do with how OFTEN a team is rushing on us and much more to do with the fact that they just don't have success when they try to.... so its hardly just becuz we have a poor pass d. I would argue teams have passed so much against us becuz they havnt found success on the ground. its that "next gen" enough?

False - Simple gap discipline and not ever sending run blitzes is, in fact, the opposite of smoke and mirrors. And when teams run on the Bills (even including the Jets game), they run for 3.7 YPC against us. (regardless of being able to "pass at will" against us)

The fallout against the Jets vs. the run came due to poor tackling and gap discipline, over and over.

you beat me to it.... I just cited the same stat. guess I shoulda browsed down the page a bit before I posted but saviors nonsense never stops. so I jumped on it.

This isn’t true. According to Football Outsiders we have the 2nd easiest remaining schedule out of the entire NFL (updated last week so this week isn’t counted yet). That being said our wildcard competitors have the 16th easiest remaining schedule at worst so the whole AFC’s schedule looks pretty easy. No clear advantage there IMO.

we only play 2 teams under .500 the rest of the way out at this point. so i'm gonna respectfully disagree with them.

go look at a team like the jags schedule and tell me it isn't cake compared to the bills.

I do. It's just not the Saints style of offense to be ground and pound. No question they're going to run the ball some, but not as much, or as effectively, as the Jests ; they just aren't built to be that team.

My major concern is the pass rush not challenging Brees. If he's consistently given 3+ seconds to throw, it's going to get ugly.

I'm fairly certain the saints have rushed for 150+ in their last four games. the success of their ground game is a major part of their resurgence. not saying we cant stop it but they are absolutely built for it.

I've rarely been wrong during my time here.

But still not sure why some folks have an unhealthy obsession with the Dolphins other than they are  hated division rival who swept us last year. Same reason we'll be lucky to split with them this year best case.

So assuming we can win 1 game against the Dolphins still need at least 3 more for the playoffs and outside of the Colts (who are still playing decent despite their record and Brissett has been LARGE) not sure where we are getting them from.

in the last 2 weeks you've talked about how there is no way we beat the raiders..... in fact you said it would be a blowout. and you've gushed about how good the fins looked WHILE they've lost 2 straight.....

you've been very very very wrong on some things my man. you talk in absolutes and it just makes you look so comical. its the NFL man. week to week can be so different.

do understand how ridiculous it is to say our season will end in shambles based one blowout loss, but then say the fins are still in good shape and will make the playoffs after a 40-0 loss to a ravens team with a losing record and then another loss to a 4-5 raiders team that we blew out? do you get how absurd that is? no..... you obviously don't or you wouldn't spew such crap onto a keyboard.

  11. 3 minutes ago, SaviorPeterman said:

Almost is the key word, but we were thoroughly dominated by them which magnifies the gap between the Bills and Pats and guarantees another sweep by them over us this year.

I didn't expect it but glad we got some help last night from the Raiders.

Dolphins however are right were they were last year and still in the mix at 4-4. And remember last year they were 6-2 in the final 8 games (9-2 in final 11 overall after 1-4 start) and will likely make a similar run this year since advanced metrics are still on their side right now.

dude you crack me up..... seriously. you lay down some gems.

and I would think after some of the statements you've already made that have backfired in the past that you would understand how silly talking in absolutes makes somebody look.

  12. 5 minutes ago, SaviorPeterman said:

Yes because no way the Jets magically became a juggernaut and we were their first victim. And if so that also wouldn't bode well for our playoff chances if the jets are about to go on a Miami type of run and win 7 of their final 8 games because they would essentially leapfrog us in the standings.

The Jets exposed this team in every way imaginable on the national stage setting this team up for another collapse considering what's left on the schedule starting this week against a Saints team riding a dominant 6 game win streak.

Just can't see how we are winning more than a few games in the 2nd half if we couldn't win against the Bengals and Jets on the road. Next gen stats and metrics simply aren't trending in the Bills favor right now.

good lord..... so lets use one game to form an opinion other than a whole half seasons worth of work. how can anyone take this seriously?

as for the jets? they are a competitive team that has held leads against numerous teams this year and just couldn't finish. you'll have to excuse me if i'm not gonna judge our team on just ONE game that was away to a division opponent in primetime. come on man. give me a break.

and are those "next gen" stats still supporting the playoff team in Miami you've been gushing about for weeks now?

Guess it depends what your expectations were. I never viewed him as some great pass rusher and didn’t expect double digit sacks. I figured he’d be good at setting the edge and getting the occasional sack here and there. He’ll probably be a solid NFL player for a long time but he won’t get the sexy stats you’d like to get from those guys especially the ones drafted in the first round.

the problem is we have only been rushing four and getting no pressure. I think if the other guys were getting home people woudnt be so unhappy but the lack of pressure has made his lack of pass rush ability a bit more of a liability. I think he'd be way better off and better appreciated in a scheme that didn't rely so heavily on just their front four for pressure.

Yes and it's why I nearly walked away for good this summer and probably should have.

But what can a man do? And if I've survived the last 17 years I can last a few more but it's certainly taking a toll on my health and well being.

The only thing I'm looking forward to now is seeing Peterman play because I do think he can be a franchise QB in this league so hopefully he'll be our starter next year if this team crashes and burns with Taylor the rest of this season and sadly good chance that's going to happen.

based off what?????? a Thursday night game? how do you come up with this trash?

  15. 6 minutes ago, SaviorPeterman said:

If this game was in NO line would easily be 8 - 10 points in the Saints favor.

Either way I'll be very shocked if we cover or actually win the game.

well now, isn't that a surprise! coming from the guy that said we had no shot during our last home game.

and ftr. the home team usually always gets 3 pts at home which means the spread if it was in NO would probably be between 4.5 and 6.5.

  16. Well, I didn't see this, but I'm sure you're correct to some extent. It took me a while, but I've come to agree with the "lack of anticipation" crowd. I've seen it enough.

BUT - he had a lot of throws where his anticipation was excellent. The one to Jones with defenders on either side of him - I don't think it was late - it was where and when it needed to be. The Jones TD to. The Thompson TD he threw it to the inside to allow Thompson to stay in bounds and curl around the defender.

Although he can improve, I thought last night he looked like a competent professional quarterback. If he should have gotten the ball out on 2 out of 6 sacks, well, fine, there's something he can improve on. But he got the ball out just fine on a lot of plays last night, and he was throwing at guys who were open but well covered - he isn't waiting for guys to be wide open to throw.

In short, I'm beginning to see real progress over his past two seasons.

Well, Happy, that's their game. I just don't expect to see a pass happy offense from McDermott. He's too conservative for that.

Plus, you need to recognize that through most of the third quarter the score was 10-7 and then 17-7. There was plenty of time left, and the Bills believe they can run the ball.

So while I tend to feel the same way you do, I don't think it was crazy to keep trying to run. The offensive line wasn't pass protecting much better than it was run blocking.

while I don't disagree I would argue that it IS CRAZY to keep trying to run the rest of the season with Tolbert as your backup if this is gonna be their approach.

  17. They can but it won't be easy. Saints likely going to be riding 6 game winning streak heading into Buffalo and they aren't close to the teams we've beat at home so far who are all sub .500 at the moment.

they'll be due for a loss.... I personally hope the saints win this week and carry it into buffalo. the odds of them keeping up a streak like that aren't great..... I'll play the odds

  18. i dont think i can remember a recent game where the O-line routinely collapsed that hard and fast backward and around tyrod. over and over and over again. within half second he would have a routine 5 man rush engulfing him with relative ease... the front was just completely man handled.

...... and could we please try a 5 or 6 man rush of our own. I think its pretty apparent after the last month that the front four isn't enough. its maddening to watch qb's sit there for 3 or 4 seconds on every 3rd down just waiting for somebody to get open.

good read, shaw. as always. maybe its the fan in me but I think we need to look at the whole first half of the season as an indicator of how this team is made up and not just one game. and with that being said I still like our shot next week at home in front of a raucous crowd vs a very complete N.O. team... win that one and everything changes.... again.

  19. Ha Ha, yeah I thought that I was going to get crushed for only having the OL at 25%. They were thoroughly atrocious yesterday.

says so much about that poster that I already had come to know anyways..... jets run d has been awful all year and we couldn't run. jets had 11 sacks ALL FREAKING SEASON and the pocket routinely COLLAPSED around our qb. easily the worst performance I've seen from them in a long time. that was a bad jets defense that absolutely MAN HANDLED our guys up front.

that being said. everyone sucked. just a complete implosion. but unlike most around here, the sky isn't falling for me. big game at home next week. a winnable one I think.
