Impact of Dobbs and Abortion Laws
SCBills replied to ChiGoose's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Nobody in blue states, that understand abortion law, is concerned. It’s a political football for dumb people. Smart people who want power just throw it around. Hochul convinced people Zeldin was going to make abortion illegal in NY. There’s absolutely zero chance he can do anything to abortion if he wanted to, but most voters are easily manipulated and/or lack intelligence (on both sides) -
Im a conservative: pro-gay marriage politically support 12-15 week limit with exceptions after calling PPP is bs given what went on and comments like that are why I will never support any Dem again in my life Have next to zero political care about social security. Whatever, keep it, fine. Supported the idea of M4A until Dems showed they can’t be trusted during an emergency and will weaponize anything at their disposal We should address climate change, but cannot go 0-100 like current admin is doing I want more legal immigration. Much rather have socially conservative Hispanics to drown out liberal white women and habitual Dem black voters I’m a small business owner who pays a **** ton in taxes and will never support lockdown/mandate politicians or a party pushing gender ideology on children and abortion to birth. Conservatives need to fight the culture war and point out the degenerate, perverse views those like you wish to push on children. Those who do… DeSantis/Youngkin are the two most popular Governors in the country. Not a coincidence.

If DeSantis runs, and defeats Trump, they’ll need some behind the scenes figures to handle DJT. Politics are dirty, and some of the people reportedly backing DeSantis have alot of money, power and connections. They’ll have a plan to make him fall in line and/or gracefully exit .. if they don’t, I don’t think DeSantis or Youngkin etc run and the GOP just has to suck it up and hope he prevails.

Abortion is, easily, the most nuanced topic in the American electorate … which, of course, means our two major parties have taken the most extreme positions on the issue. R’s can flip this issue on its head by acknowledging Americans do not want full bans, and agree to limitations. As long as there are vocal leaders in the party floating/implementing full bans.. even if only in the reddest of red states.. R’s will struggle on messaging here in northern swing states like PA, MI, WI etc Whoever the R nominee is should be prepared to have a clear, concise policy view on this issue. One that acknowledges states rights and the view of having legal access to a point. Otherwise it will be defined for them and become a political weakness. Not one they can’t overcome, but it will be hammered home by their opponents and via statewide initiatives on the ballot to drive turnout.

Walker definitely brought most R’s home and has a good chance in the runoff. That being said, if this ends up being the deciding Senate Seat, Dems will flood the zone. Seems like Dems used up all their bullets to damage Herschel, so we’ll see where this goes without an idiotic third party candidate on the ballot. Trump announcement could factor by making this, yet another, referendum on DJT.

Im pro-life, but I think we should do what most Americans and civilized countries want…. Legal access up to 15 weeks and then exceptions after. I find the Dems view far more radical than the R’s, but messaging mixed with R’s in certain areas going for full bans, made people only view one side as extreme this election cycle. R’s have pull back a bit and shift the focus to the extreme Dem views on this issue. ESPECIALLY in northern states.

Its definitely a regional issue. Kemp signed one of the strictest abortion laws in the country and smoked Stacey Abrams (who ran mainly on abortion) DeSantis signed 15 weeks … won by 20 points. We’ll see how NV and AZ go. Ohio is a red state, so not much to glean there. Northern states though … Yea, R’s need to recalibrate their abortion messaging.

Long Island a big bright spot for GOP Zeldin helped then sweep all their house races, it seems. 4 out of 5 so far, and the 5th looks good.

Wonder if we see further Balkanization of the country after last night. I know plenty of New Yorkers who have stated they will look at moving south if Zeldin can’t win … looks like he can’t even make it a nail biter. Same in Michigan… and obviously we see Cali R’s/Indies fleeing to Idaho, Nevada, AZ and Texas. Pennsylvanians should just stay in PA… dumbest electorate in the country. Being led by Shapiro and Fetterman because they let Trump sell them on Mastriano and Oz is what they deserve.
