SNF: Detroit @ Kansas City (no Bills stuff in this thread please)

Was it just me, or did the Lions look an awful lot like the Bills against the Chiefs last night? Their offense featured tons of short throws including multiple WR screens thrown behind the line of scrimmage. And the Lions secondary was playing so far back there were some replays where it looked like they didn’t have eleven guys out there. Ugh! -

This is NOT wrong. It’s done that way in virtually every stadium in the world. The artificial turf is put down around the perimeter to assist with drainage and to keep the sidelines from becoming a muddy mess where all of the people stand during games. -

How’s this for proof? I took this in the upper deck looking straight down the sideline on my tour….mostly because I knew I’d be asked. -

Game week thread - Bills at Falcons MNF
SoCal Deek replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
So in summary, the Bills defense is a schematic mess. The three levels of the defense are utterly disconnected from each other in what they’re trying to do. And I’d even toss in the fourth level if you consider that our two safeties are playing so far back they’re close to being in the first row of the end zone. (Maybe they’ll catch a football back there and run up the stands on their way out of the stadium.) -
The NFL (No Fun League) started down this misery spiral when they put those pesky nets up behind the goal posts. Back at the Rockpile, the kids would all stand behind the end zone and try to catch the field goals and extra points. Inevitably a feeding frenzy ensued after each kick…like watching piranha when chum is dumped into the tank. Good times, I tell ya! 😉

Grunts? There are probably hundreds of people on TBD alone that would literally love doing that job. -

The challenge becomes protecting the natural grass on the football sidelines since the players and coaches stand within the wider soccer boundary…so they’ll typically put down a tarp there. It’s a standard cross section. The sand helps with drainage. -

I’m not sure it’s the case at the new Bills Stadium but when we design them it has to extend far enough to accommodate a soccer field, which is wider than a football field.
