Gameday Thread Bills @ Jets 2nd Half
BigDingus replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Doing what we do best, 3 & outs, penalties, blown coverages, missed tackles... man, same ol' Bills. This will probably be the 4th game in a row with a 300+ yard passer. -

LOL. 5 sacks, almost double digit penalties, dropping interceptions, turning the ball over... yup, same ol' Bills. Now do we finish the season going 1-8 like the last time we started off 5-2? If we play like this, it's almost a certainty. -

Can we get more penalties please? I mean half a dozen already isn't quite doing it... we need to hit double digits soon if we're really going to keep pace with our tradition on Nationally televised games. -

Are the Bills trying to bring back the Rex Ryan glory-years of penalties? They're sure making an attempt to get as many dump calls as they can... -

Same ol' Bills screwing the pooch on National TV. Some things never change. -
Superstition wise: Let's not screw this up.
BigDingus replied to dollars 2 donuts's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well we're off to a fantastic start in keeping our streak of no TD's in the 1st quarter alive! Penalty on the kick return, followed by a 12 yard sack, followed by a penalty, followed by a run for no gain, then a punt! Yaaaay. This team has an issue with starting games even halfway decent. -

Great start. Penalty, sack, penalty, no gain, punt. Keeping our streak of no TD's in the 1st quarter this year alive! -
Eric Moulds would've been a sure-fire HOF'er if not for the teams he played on. He put up 10,000 yards receiving, tons of receptions & 50 TD's when he had to play with some of the crappiest QB's in the league. He played under what, a dozen starting QB's minimum, and however many offensive coordinators, yet still put up those numbers? McCoy has had a much better supporting cast but has never been DOMINANT except for a single year. He's not a HOF'er unless he puts up a few more GREAT seasons. His stats don't separate him from many others, nor does his body of work on the field outside of pure stats.

Bills improve to 5-2 w/ "boring" win (article)
BigDingus posted a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
https://sports.yahoo.com/bills-improve-5-2-another-200811041.html I don't mind the "boring" part of it, but the problem I still have with this team is their struggle to do much with the takeaways they're gifted. Eventually the turnovers will dry up, then what? We had 13 points off 4 turnovers today, with one being returned by the defense for a TD. So in other words, 6 points off 3 turnovers otherwise, which is up from last week when we had 3 turnovers for 3 points. Against the Bengals we forced 3 turnovers too, but which we had one nice drive for a TD, one 3 & out punt, and one FG. So 10 pts off turnovers, 6 pts otherwise. Each week it seems like our defense is basically WILLING us to victory, practically gifting the offense chance after chance to put the game away. If our offense was better, we'd be blowing teams out of the water with all the turnovers we get, but too often we don't do enough with them. Half the time we are lucky to get FG's only due to the starting field position we're given off the turnovers. Had the offense started in their own territory, they'd be forced to punt. I'm not trying to be a Debbie-Downer, but we know the turnovers will eventually dry up. We know we'll face better teams where we can't afford to punt or kick FG's off turnovers. We started 5-1 in 2008 & 5-2 in 2011, finishing the seasons 7-9 & 6-10 from there. I see similar things happening that happened in those seasons. Hell, last year we started 4-2, and we know what happened from there. Tyrod has looked more like Trent Edwards than ever this season, just with the added ability to scramble. But Captain Checkdown seems to have returned, only this time our WR's are less talented than before. If we can beat the Jets on national television this Thursday, that will relieve most of my fears. Though the Jets aren't some world-beater team, we have struggled mightily on nationally televised games in recent years, losing games we should've won. Just like the Bengals game showed signs of being a letdown game (after emotional wins against the Broncos & Falcons), the Jets TNF matchup seems that way too. The Jets are playing better than they should be, and giving opponents more fits than anyone expected was possible. We beat them already, but this time we're in NY, and their offense is playing much better. If we win, going 6-2, I'll be convinced this team is different. If we lose, I expect similar results to those previous years of quick starts. -
CBS Studio Analysts praise Bills, Fans, McDermott
BigDingus replied to Fadingpain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This coverage scares me though... it's deja vu from 2011... The media was ready to prop up the Bills as one of the best teams in the league, we were ranked in the top 3 in ESPN & NFL Power Rankings, Ryan Fitzpatrick was doing the media press tour appearing on talk shows every day, and we were on a roll going 5-2 up to that point. We had people claiming we had turned the corner, having beaten the Patriots at home already, and with Gailey being anointed as some genius coach. We smacked the Redskins around in Toronto, putting up a dominant defensive performance (with 9 or 10 sacks!) similar to what we did to the Raiders today. Then we won a whopping 1 game from that point on...We lost 7 straight games and finished the season 6-10. So even though there's a lot to be happy about, I know better than to be drawn in at this point. We also started 5-1 in 2008 and finished the year 7-9... Trent Edwards was getting tons of praise & also going on the media tour, while the national sports press hyped him up as the only successful QB of his draft class. They spoke too soon. -
No. Most HOF RB's have lead the league in rushing yards multiple times (McCoy did it once in 2013), or at least rushing TD's... He's only had double digit rushing TD's in a season twice, and he only averages 76 rushing yards a game for his career. Plus it's not like he's been a dominant force in the playoffs or been the key piece on a bunch of winning teams. He still has a few good years left if he stays healthy, so he definitely can add to his stats & make a case for it, but as of now I don't think he'll make it to the Hall of Fame. He's got the talent for sure, but not the numbers or the wins, kinda like Eric Moulds.

Gotta love the offensive pass interference call when the Raider's DB just fell that ruined our first quarter drive & a big play, as well as our defensive holding later in the game on 3rd down that just gave the Raiders a new set of downs. Or the holding on Incognito where he did nothing wrong at all. I mean there were more stupid calls too, but it was really the late flags when someone complained that pissed me off. If any Raider's player threw their hands up and spun around to yell at the refs, the ref would be like "Oh, he's mad! Must be a penalty!" and throw a late flag. They initially wouldn't, but after some over reactions from Raider's players they would THEN throw the flag. Easily influenced fools.

Brandon Beane already top 3 worst GM's in bills history
BigDingus replied to Yeezus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
People forget we were 4-2 last year too... It's about this point in the season where we start to see the real team, and collapse down the stretch. Trading away Dareus does NOTHING to help us is the problem. We get a 6th rounder NEXT YEAR, who will likely never make much of an impact on this team in any way, while losing a Pro-Bowl talent that was just getting useful again. Sorry Whaley signed him to a bad contract, but that doesn't mean make it worse by losing any possible return on that investment. This is a friggin joke. -
Zay Jones. 5 of 23 is pitiful
BigDingus replied to BuffaloBillsMagic1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The worst part is he's one of the most targeted people by Tyrod, including TE's & RB's. He also has the lowest catch rate out of all of them too. -
The scarier thing than the Pats being in first is how much better everyone else is doing than they were supposed to. The Dolphins look pretty bad week after week yet still are winning. The Jets were supposed to tank & are winning & strongly competing in every game. The Bills offense is putrid but the defense keeps games close. This division is going to get pretty congested unless someone separates themselves, and usually that someone is the Patriots.

Year after year we always find people blaming the OC for all the problems with the QB's execution. Doesn't matter who's lined up behind center, when they don't produce there's a contingency of fans who point to playcalling instead of the QB. I mean it's so predictable at this point. Blame the line - check. Blame the OC - check. Blame the WR's - check. Blame the injuries - check. Just don't blame the QB, or else you're a "hater," and a pessimist/negative Nancy....

Yeah... Football has changed A LOT since then. Those were before all the changes made to make the passing game more dominant and protect the QB at all costs. Those teams also had teams that converted 3rd downs & scored off turnovers and had great special teams play. Their defenses were just as much a threat to score as their offenses were, as were their special teams. Our defense is play great, but they rarely score off turnovers (besides White's fumble return for a TD). Also the Special Teams play of those 2 teams was great. If we had Special Teams play like that of older Bills teams, you know, the ones coached by Bobby April & returners like Terrence McGee & Roscoe Parrish, we may be talking a different tune. We had a Pro Bowl punter in Moorman, and gunners that just annihilated opponent return teams. We created turnovers on ST, returned kicks & punts for TDs, and had fantastic all-around play to compliment good defense. If we had that level or play NOW with our defense, we might have a better chance to overcome the crummy offense.

We're going to hear the same excuses we do every year: 1) Look who he's throwing to! *Note: They also said that about Losman, Edwards, Orton, Fitzpatrick, Holcomb, EJ, etc. 2) Our OC/HC isn't calling the right plays! *Note: They also said that about Hackett, Lynn, Roman, Gailey, AVP, etc. 3) The O-line can't block! *That's just a half-truth that has been said every year since Bledsoe 4) But all the injuries! *Every team has them, it's inevitable, yet somehow others prevail while the Bills falter 5) He doesn't turn the ball over! *Considering how little he's on the field with all the 3 & outs, it's not saying much. Edwards also didn't throw many interceptions... 6) Yards don't matter! *Yards are a byproduct of a successful passing game. They don't magically appear on the stat sheet. If it weren't for guys like Shady often making big YAC, Tyrod's passing yards would look even more pedestrian. He doesn't get those yards because drives are usually dead within a minute & a half of the offense taking the field. They don't mean EVERYTHING, but look at Dalton today. He moved their offense successfully time & time again. His two turnovers were from a tipped pass and a perfect pass right through the hands of one of the best WR's in the League. The fumble was on a nice completed pass jarred loose by a great hit by Alexander. Dalton however wasn't fazed, and persevered through the end, and had the yards to show for it. 7) The dropped balls! *Again, everybody deals with dropped balls. The Bengals had a TON of them today, sometimes in succession. It happens to everyone, but good QB's are accurate enough to overcome that by hitting the next guy up. 8) He's got a high completion percentage! *True, he usually does. But completion percentage is only part of the picture. When that number is inflated by checkdowns (and it is, Shady is our leader in receptions this year with 27, behind our TE with 20....the next closest is Jordan Matthews with 10 receptions) it doesn't mean as much in-game. 9) He's 10th in Yards per Attempt at 7.52! *Not anymore. However, it doesn't mean much anyway..He was right in the middle of a large pack, with only tenths of a yard separating him from anyone. Carson Palmer is 21st with 7.01 while Cam Newton is 6th with 7.88. After this game however, Taylor is at 6.69 Yards per Attempt, placing him at 25th, just behind Eli Manning at 6.71. But like I said, not that a significant stat - people like Aaron Rodgers, Derek Carr, Russell Wilson, Drew Brees, etc. were all below him, and their on-field play FAR surpasses Tyrod. People like Case Keenum, Kirk Cousins, Jared Goff, Kevin Hogan, etc. are all at the top, but are not the same caliber QBs. 10) He keeps plays alive! * He's also tied for second most sacks in the league with Matthew Stafford. His mobility has helped get him out of bad situations, but it's often put him in those situations too. Either A) He hangs on to the ball too long like he did on our final drive today, or B) He gets happy feet too quickly, feeling pressure that isn't there yet, and takes off running (often times right into an opposing linemen). All in all, he's still probably our best chance to win games this year. Given our history at developing rookie QB's, it's unlikely Peterman would be any more successful once in-game. We'd likely try to run an even more conservative offense, limit his chances to turn the ball over, and ultimately end up making our play-calling as predictable as the Jauron days. We'll run on 1st, run on 2nd, pass/checkdown on 3rd. Rinse & repeat. I don't think he's bad, but he has a lot of flaws that people want to pass off on anyone & everyone else. He's a game manager, and only a DECENT one at that. I'd take 2014 Kyle Orton over Tyrod any day though.
-
Shhhhhh! We all know it's not his fault! The open WR's should've thrown the ball to themselves! People say Tyrod not seeing open receivers and over throwing open receivers isn't true! Doesn't matter what you see with your own eyes! At least we can be happy Zay Jones is continuing to average 1 catch & 1 drop a game. The dude is on fire! He was only targeted 6 times, so he's also keeping that 20% reception average way up there!
-
On that last drive, he took a sack after great pass protection and not seeing the open WR on the hook route! He has guys to throw to, has open people he doesn't see, or simply overthrows his target far too often. When that doesn't happen, QB's get yards added to their stats. People say "yards don't matter," but they ignore that the yards are a result of competent QB play! Think about that drive one more time, we know we NEED to get a 1st down with the game on the line. Tyrod takes an unecessary sack, ok...so obviously the next play is crucial to be successful. What does he do? Dump pass to the RB who's behind the line of scrimmage........ Guys, that is not ok with the game on the line! No urgency whatsoever! Whether the pick happened or not, you could clearly see where that drive was going - nowhere. The entire second half we only had drives extended via penalties from the Bengals! Late in the 4th we had only managed 34 yards at one point! After an amazing kick return + a personal foul penalty tacked on, we go backwards a couple plays, followed by a dump pass. We had every opportunity to score, but nope. We botched 100% of our offensive possessions. Even if we manage a winning record this season, it's clearly in spite of our offense. Stop ignoring pertinent data, relevant statistics, and what you see with your own eyes just because of our W/L record. Coaches don't! They point out the areas they need to improve, they see the flaws and try to address them. The fans however latch on to a single player and blindly ride into battle to defend them no matter what. Doesn't matter who that QB is, they will always have their loyal supporters who blame everyone else. We've seen it with EJ Manuel, JP Losman, Kelly Holcomb, Trent Edwards, Kyle Orton, Matt Cassell, Tyrod Taylor, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jeff Tuel, hell...even Brian Brohm! We as fans should definitely be supportive of our team and each other, but there's no reason to lie about these guys. Failing to address their issues makes no sense.
-
Happens to everyone. Look at Dalton! His 2 interceptions were from his own guys not catching well thrown passes! He had tons of WRs drop balls today, yet still managed to move the ball perfectly fine.

Read through the mid part of this thread. People actually were comparing him to Drew Brees in terms of his ability to will a team to victory/come from behind wins. They ignored the countless come from behind wins Brees has had throughout his career just to speak about the last couple. Anything to defend Tyrod from facts. Tyrod is now 2-16 in games we trail at any point during the 4th quarter. Yay. Crazy Dak Prescott has more wins than him already.
