Then he also gets the criticism for not being able to evaluate QB talent, electing to pass on Mahomes & Watson, and thinking Nathan Peterman was a capable enough QB to not only draft, but to name as the starter heading into the season. He also traded away a 3rd round pick for Kelvin Benjamin, but glad he at least tried with that one. But yes, defensively he's been great. Offensively, not so much.

What do you on on Bills bye week?
BigDingus replied to BritBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Watch any good matchups I can, pay a bit more attention to Fantasy teams, and usually checkout how our future competition is doing (though this year that isn't much). Otherwise just eat, s*** and sleep. -
How does the XFL draft even work? All the teams are owned by the league, so is Vince going to give pseudo control to other people for each team, then allow them to legitimately compete against each other? Or will it be all for looks like the WWE when they have Smackdown vs Raw drafts? How do trades work? Does the league just decide "we need this team to be more competitive" and yank players from team A & move them to team B? Seems kind of weird when there's just one owner of all the teams.

Have to run, passing is futile at this point against them. They're talking about it right now on the post game, the Pats defense is playing at historically great levels and is on pace to go down as the top defense of ALL TIME. Our offense has no chance passing against them, so better get that run game going...It's our only shot.

Early Week 7 Line: Bills -15.5 over Dolphins
BigDingus replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Though I think we have the capability of winning by that much, unless the defense gets some points off turnovers, I don't see us winning by over 2 TD's. This team plays more like the Bills of old, where they'll play up or down to the competition. They'll step up & play good teams close, or they'll play poorly, and let bad teams stay in games. Even if the Dolphins are a dumpster fire, there's always a couple games each year where the 0 - X team comes out & beats the favorite, so I'm not expecting a complete blowout. -
Definitely, which is pretty amazing considering how good he was when he was with us. I remember many people saying it he wasn't worth the kind of money he was wanting, but he's been one of those rare players who lived up to every penny of their contracts & then some. Pats definitely got their money's worth.

As much as the Cowboys SB losses hurt, I was still pretty young & couldn't take them as heavily as I do now. As for my most painful adult-life Cowboys loss, that one still hurts. The first MNF game in Buffalo in like 13 years, the Cowboys undefeated, Bills 1-3 with the most injuries in the league at that point, it was supposed to be a blowout Cowobys win. But after 6 Tony Romo turnovers, the Bills were up 24-13 heading into the 4th and there was hope for a massive upset. The Cowboys score an early 4th quarter FG, then proceed to march down the field & score a TD with 20 seconds left, recover an onside kick, get a deep pass to TO on the sidelines, kick a 50+ yard FG (twice because we tried to ice the kicker), and win at the end. No game in modern memory has made me more mad as a Bills fan. I'm still waiting for legit payback for that game. The next time we played them was one of those seasons we started off with a quick 5 wins, making people think we were legit, only to collapse later on (Cowboys blew us out 44 to 7). Then last time, we beat their 3rd string QB in a meaningless game when both teams were well out of contention. Here's hoping this Thanksgiving we can send the Cowboys packing with similarly depressing memories for years to come

Zay Jones traded to Raiders for 5th rounder

Considering what was invested to get him, it's the least he could do. Don't worry, Allen will throw us out of a lot of games against good opponents, he's got you covered. -
Bills 14, Titans 7 Game Balls!!
BigDingus replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Game ball should go to another opposing kicker who can't hit a FG against us. In a close game, missing 4 FG's is surefire way to ensure you don't win. -
Next Gen Stats says Bills' pass blocking is NFL's second-best
BigDingus replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's really not hard to see that. The only people who would argue otherwise are people that are trying to WILL Josh Allen into being the QB they want him to be by blaming everyone else for every offensive struggle he has. But much of the time Allen starts running before there's even any pressure, or he locks onto his 1st read the entire duration of a play hoping to see them get open before passing instead of passing based on timing, then takes a sack or throws a pick instead of getting rid of the ball. When the only people with lower Passer Ratings are Josh Rosen & Ryan Fitzpatrick (who are just screwed playing for the Dolphins) and Big Ben who's been injured, it's pretty clear much of the responsibility is on you. And in terms of INT's, only Jared Goff has more (by 1), but he also has 7 passing TD's to go with 7 INT's, so at least he's breaking even. In terms of starting QB's who have played all 4 games, only Kirk Cousins has fewer passing TD's (but he also has a positive TD/INT ratio too). Allen is seriously struggling to show he's a capable PASSER, even with a revamped O-line and much improved additions at the skill positions. He's even getting a boost from defense & ST, consistently giving him good field position to start drives from. The O-line is not the problem. Outside of needing to reel in the holding & false start penalties, they've been significantly better than any time in recent years. -
Allen clears protocol and expected to play Vs Titans
BigDingus replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Glad he's ok, but still think it's a mistake to play him. As we all know, concussions are easier to reoccur after already having one, and does anyone think Allen's just going to start playing significantly different to be safer? We also have seen over 16 games that Allen plays the same, reacts the same, and makes the same decisions, good or bad, every time he's facing a certain scenario. He'll make the same awful plays you just saw him do the last time he faced that situation, and you'll see him punish a team running just like the last time the defense gave him that look. If we're in need of a 1st, especially if we're behind on the scoreboard (and definitely if Allen is the primary reason for that deficit), I expect him to run straight into those defenders trying to get the extra couple yards...EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. His health is important, and Barkley is a smart guy that has had even more time in this offense to learn the ins & outs. He's more than capable of winning this game, possibly more than Josh at this point, and should start in his stead. Giving Allen 2 extra weeks would be better to help him get a fresh start after that awful game anyway. -
Jets await test on Sam Darnold's spleen
BigDingus replied to Over 29 years of fanhood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Didn't Phil Sims' son have to retire because of a ruptured spleen? I could just Google his name, but feeling too lazy to care. Just remember he was the QB for the Bucs, lead them to the playoffs one year, then had a spleen injury that KO'd him from the season. Kevin? Chris? Matt? Something like that. Pretty sure he's an NFL analyst on some network now. -
Have You Started To Lose Faith in Josh Allen?
BigDingus replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All I've been doing since the moment he was drafted is try to find evidence that everyone was wrong about him & he's not the QB I saw in college. I've hoped & prayed our coaching staff could pull off a miracle & turn him into a player worthy of passing on Patrick Mahomes & Deshaun Watson in order to stock up on picks for the following year, but he doesn't ever seem to learn from his mistakes. He still has yet to put together one great game, still has yet to play 4 straight quarters of good football this season, is one of the worst deep ball passers in the league (which was the one thing he was supposed to be good at), and hasn't played well against any good team he's faced. Last season when we were coming off the Bye, I posted a thread pointing out that we were about to go on a stretch against the weakest strength of schedule out of anyone in the entire league, so don't get too excited when we inevitably beat some of those teams. We went 3-3...people acted like barely beating the 3-8 Jaguars (by 3 points), 5-9 Lions (by 1 point) and blowing out the 7-8 Dolphins meant he's arrived! In that stretch we also lost to the 3-9 Jets at home (though we had just blown them out 3 weeks earlier on the road with Barkley), the 5-6 Dolphins and of course the Patriots (forgiven on that). Fast forward to 2019 and it takes the currently 0-4 Jets kicker to miss an XP & a FG, the defense to hold the Jets to 0 points off 4 Josh Allen turnovers, and a comeback, 1 point win to convince people he's good. We follow that up with a good 1st half against the currently 2-2 Giants (0-2 with Eli), then disappear again until later in the 4th quarter after allowing them back in the game. Then we fight tooth & nail to hang on for dear life against the 0-4 Bengals, barely escaping with the win after once again disappearing for a half, eventually putting together a game-winning drive capped off by a Frank Gore TD to squeak by. But then we play our first good team, the defense shows up to dominate, and Allen looks like he always has, making the same mistakes over & over until eventually getting injured. We were still in a position that we could've won, but had we had any half way competent game manager at the position, we'd almost certainly have won. So here I sit, trying to envision a future in which Josh Allen is still a part of this team in 2 years, and turns himself into just an average starting QB yet still finding it incredibly difficult. I want him to succeed more than anything, but sadly I think it'll eventually cost McDermott, a very good coach, his job. Their futures are tied together, and if Allen keeps playing like this, McDermott likely won't get a chance to try again for another QB. I'll enjoy the wins we get the rest of the season, even if they are against lousy opponents, but until I see him either A) put together a complete good 4 quarters several times or B) not completely nose dive against quality competition, I have little hope he'll ever become the franchise guy. -
We need Josh Allen to be Tyrod Taylor for 3 quarters
BigDingus replied to Strethor's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's making the EXACT same mistakes as last year. Last season, even in our final stretch where we had the EASIEST strength of schedule left in the entire league, all the way through this year where we again have had a cake walk schedule until the Patriots, Allen has shown he's a bottom tier passer in the league. This article following the end last season still describes Allen TODAY - https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/25518645/nfl-rookie-quarterback-progress-reports-2018-draft-picks-shown-far "As a passer, though, it's difficult to see any signs of improvement from Allen. His numbers are horrific -- he ranks last among qualifying signal-callers in passer rating (62.8) and QBR on pass attempts (26.8) -- and don't bear any resemblance to the quarterback Allen was supposed to be coming out of college. His deep balls have been scattershot at best; on throws 16 or more yards downfield, his passer rating is 36.2, which is nearly 20 points worse than any other qualifying passer. His Total QBR on those throws is also last in the league." "...so far, the Bills have witnessed ... a less impressive version of Taylor. The same frustrated fans who were sick of Taylor failing to hit 200 passing yards in a game have seen Allen average 181.6 passing yards in his eight full starts. He is completing just 52.4 percent of his passes while throwing his average pass 10.5 yards in the air. (Over his three years in Buffalo, Taylor completed 62.6 percent of his passes while throwing them an average of 9.0 yards in the air.) Allen has added an unwanted propensity for interceptions, given that his nine picks are nearly as many as the 10 Taylor threw over his final two seasons in Buffalo combined." "For every throw Allen makes that arrives on time and with velocity, there's another where his footwork gets jumbled and he sails a throw to an open receiver. Allen does a good job of reading defenders' leverage both as a scrambler and in setting up screens, but he has missed on simple checkdowns and dump-offs. Watching Allen play, you never seem to get a sense of whether a ball is going to be delivered to the right spot. Sometimes, I wonder whether Allen knows, too." Can't hit deep balls, turns it over too much, inconsistent, still making the same mistakes. Don't worry, I'm sure we'll get to pretend he's good when we win a few games against some winless teams like the Dolphins x 2, the Redskins, and the Broncos, but against halfway competent teams I'm sure we'll see the same old Allen. And I'm sure people will still ignore the obvious patterns of his performances against those competent teams, and pretend he's a good QB because he managed to rally us to victory, despite the turnovers, behind an elite defensive performance yet again. -
We need Josh Allen to be Tyrod Taylor for 3 quarters
BigDingus replied to Strethor's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, the could have been game has definitely benefited Allen. For every dropped pass, there are FAR more thrown way the hell of target. You don't go an entire half completing only 3 passes on nearly 20 attempts because someone dropped a ball that one time. A dropped pass is nowhere near as detrimental as actually turning the ball over, and there have been at least 3 dropped INT's that could've been added to his tally. And speaking of "catchable low balls," there are FAR more passes that have sailed over open WR's, been thrown well behind them, or just not even seen at all... guys that have their man beat downfield, and Allen just can't do the one thing he's supposed to be good at, throwing deep! And 1/3 of Allen's passing TD's this season have come from a shovel pass 1 foot in front of him, then the runner doing all the work from there. Sure, other QB's have those plays, but other QB's also have many other passing TD's they were actually responsible for to make those plays but a footnote. Allen's more likely to get rushing TD's than passing TD's, and when has that ever been a good sign for a QB? -
Josh Allen - Accuracy on the Long Ball
BigDingus replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are mis-remembering. Statistically he was actually DEAD LAST in deep ball accuracy last year. Nobody was worse. He's just continuing that this year, only this time it's more noticeable because there's quite a few times our WR's are open downfield & he's still missing them (just as often under throwing them as over throwing them). Even worse is all the times he didn't even see the open man down field. Those plays where there's a likely TD or at worst, a giant gain, and Allen's back there running around locked on to his 1st read, then taking a sack or just throwing a low percentage pass. -
I don't see any reason why it'd be easier to shut down Barkley than it would be to shut down Allen. Put any kind of pressure on Allen & cover his first read, and he starts running around almost without fail. DB's will be chomping at the bit to look good & pad their stats and will be looking for easy picks all day. Sure, Allen CAN make a few runs & extend plays, but he's just as likely to take a dumb sack or lob it into 3 defenders instead of throwing the ball away, just because he panics. Teams really haven't had trouble stopping Allen from rushing this year. He's good for a couple good runs a game, but nothing insane. He's averaging 7 rushes & 32 yards a game, good for just over 4 yards a carry this season. Sure, that's more than some QB's, but it's nothing spectacular, as teams have pretty much figured out it's worth being aggressive against him as he'll rarely punish you unless there's actual broken coverage downfield. Again, he CAN do some good things extending plays, but someone like Barkley is more likely to make you pay being that aggressive, as he knows how to read a defense & can adjust presnap to coming pressure. Just look at last year for example, Barkley was picked up off the streets, had barely any time to get up to speed with the playbook, had no chemistry with anyone and put out our best offensive performance of the year, destroying the Jets 41-10 on the road. Only 3 games later we got the 3-9 Jets at home, and Allen struggled to do anything, resorting to playing RB all game & just hoping for the best when passing. Made it EASIER for the Jets to deal with him since they knew he couldn't do much through the air.

We need Josh Allen to be Tyrod Taylor for 3 quarters
BigDingus replied to Strethor's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem is these aren't just the occasional INTs trying to take a chance, they're panic, hope & a prayer lobs thrown just in any direction he's facing at the time. Doesn't matter if there are 4 defenders to 1 Bills player, he still chucks it up without any common sense. It's not great coverage or bad routes, it's not a WR slipping or end of half Hail Mary's, it's hold the ball for 3+ seconds, decide to run around, get into a bad situation, then throw off the back foot just wherever he can. Even worse is his deep ball passes lack any kind of precision or power, they're often wobbly, and UNDER thrown where the WR has no chance to come down with the ball. If these were just bad timing mistakes or getting hit from behind while throwing (and not after having held onto the ball for far too long) it'd be a little more forgivable. On top of that, there easily could've been even MORE INT"s this season if the DBs didn't drop freebie picks. Fumbles could've costed us more as well, but great heads up plays by our team have mitigated the damage done from those too. People keep throwing out the term "hero ball" to try to give an impression he's a gunslinger like Brett Favre. Sadly, that's just not the case. When your wins are mostly based on how much the defense can mitigate the damage you do on offense, then see if you can dig yourself out of the whole YOU made (either by just disappearing for a couple quarters or overcoming your turnovers), you can't even be compared to those types of players, even if you manage to do something right & put together a good drive at the end of the game. -
We need Josh Allen to be Tyrod Taylor for 3 quarters
BigDingus replied to Strethor's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hate to say it, but you're right. Tyrod was mediocre, but at least he wasn't turning the ball over left & right. Any half decent game manger QB, Tyrod included, would've won the game against the Patriots last week. If we can't beat Brady & Co. at their absolute worst, there's zero chance we beat them at their best. The defense played brilliantly, and aside from a blocked punt, the special teams has been great. Averaging 30+ yards returning the ball is top 3 in the league, and coupled with the defense gave us plenty of opportunities to start in good field position. Yet time & time again Allen was there to make the same mistakes over & over & over again. Taking dumb sacks that knocked us out of FG range costing us points, turning it over costing us points, and being Nathan Peterman levels of awful in the first half. Josh has yet to put together a complete 4 quarters of good QB play this season, and has barely managed to beat some of the crappiest teams in the league. The only reason he's even able to help with those comeback wins is due to the defense playing out of their minds to overcompensate for our awful offensive performances and Allen's turnovers. But yay, he helps dig us out of the whole he created to escape with wins. 3 passing TD's (where 1 was just a glorified handoff), 6 INT's, 3 fumbles (where thankfully 2 were recovered by our team) and a 38.6 QBR, even worse than last year, does NOT signal a "good" or even average QB by any means. And the one thing he's supposed to be good at, throwing deep, he's awful at... Worst in the league last year, and bottom of the league this year. Even worse is the amount of times he had open guys with a few steps on their guy and he didn't even see them. At least the ones he either completely wobbles short or launches 5-10 yards past the open man shows he saw them, but just outright being unaware they're even open just hurts even more. His lack of awareness in so many situations is killing us. It's ok to make mistakes, but making the same ones repeatedly, and in every situation they come up, is most concerning. It shows an inability to learn, and that he goes off pure instinct...instinct that is poorly suited for the NFL combined with his lack of awareness. I've hoped I was wrong about him since we drafted him, but there has been nothing shown on the field that points to him being any other than exactly what he was in college. Still hoping McDermott & Co. can pull off a miracle & do what nobody else coaching him has been able to do, but considering their ability to gauge QB talent, it doesn't seem likely unless they bring in someone from the outside to turn things around. -
