This whole DC thing presents a good example of the intellectual bankruptcy of the MAGA movement. The claim is that the Feds are moving into DC because the crime is so bad. If one wanted to evaluate this plan, they would ask, "Is DC the most dangerous city in the US?" in order to determine if the action is justified. The answer is a clear no. Not only is DC not the most dangerous city, the violent crime rate has declined to a 30 year low. If one was willing to give Trump the benefit of the doubt, they could say "well, the Feds can't deploy in other cities like they can in DC. Maybe this can prove to be the a model for supporting local law enforcement and other cities will see this and ask for assistance." If that was the case, one would expect to see the Fed deployments to focus on the areas of DC with high crime rates, patrolling the streets in dangerous neighborhoods to deter crime, allowing the local police force to focus on bringing criminals to justice. The deployment would be focused on getting criminals into custody. But the deployment has mostly ignored the dangerous areas in favor of wealthy and high profile areas like Georgetown and the Federal Mall. And they are arresting people without criminal records. Those they do arrest often face trumped up charges. A guy who throws a sandwich at a cop is arrested and charged with several crimes (Say what you will about a cop being hurt by bread, you don't throw things at cop if you don't want to be arrested), but then the feds later bring in a camera crew to record themselves breaking into his home to charge him with additional crimes, something they could have done with paperwork. They wanted the theatrics. So if they aren't going into the most dangerous cities, and they aren't focusing on people with criminal records, and they aren't patrolling high crime areas, and they are using their actions for theatrics, what the hell are they doing there? You can break the MAGA understanding of this into three buckets: The Ignorant: Most people don't follow news closely. They see the Feds are coming in to combat crime and assume that is the truth The Stupid: People who follow politics closely, know the Feds are focusing more on high visibility spaces instead of the high crime areas and somehow believe this is effective The Authoritarian: People who know this isn't about stopping crime in the traditional sense, but punishing those who they view as equal to criminals simply for disagreeing or opposing their ideology. When they say they are fighting crime, they mean fighting libs. You cannot support this action as fighting crime unless you believe not being MAGA is the equivalent to a crime.

Greg Olsen is solid as a commentator. Walking through the facemask penalty was better than we usually get from the booth -

Well, if all of the Bills starters and most of the backups get knocked out for the season, I’m going to be a bit concerned -

I would not overreact to a Super Bowl contender playing mostly backups and vanilla plays losing to a mediocre team with a new head coach and young QB trying to find their footing in the preseason. The Bills will be fine. -

Completely agree. I really dislike domes for cold weather teams. The Arlington site is way too good an option to pass up (the story behind it becoming available is nuts) and while I want them to stay downtown, it makes much more financial sense to move out there. But I still wish there weren’t going for a dome -

It’s one of the smallest capacity stadiums in the NFL despite being the largest market with only one team. You can fit like 10-12k more people at the Ralph. It was pretty empty for the 2022 game since it was so cold. Brought a flag with the white standing buffalo on a red field and was able to get close to field level and wave it as the guys were coming off the field. -

I’m in Chicago, but I’m not paying $100 for a preseason game. I was at the frozen Christmas Eve game in 2022. That was quite the experience. -

I was thinking of going but ticket prices were ridiculous. When the Bills came to Chicago for the preseason in 2021, we got United Club tickets for like $80. Nosebleeds for today were more expensive than that. -

Yeah, keep it simple for him, create space for him to get it in there. I think Ben Johnson has a chance to shake up the NFC north -

Not worried about the backups allowing that drive but I will say that I was pretty impressed with the Bears offensive design there. Getting guys open for Caleb. -
There's an easy answer as to why the GOP is working hard to bury Trump's relationship with Epstein and why it is teeming with pedos (while the Dem party, for all its faults, has far, far, fewer examples). It is the GOP that pushes the notion of a "traditional" household where the husband is in charge. They generally support a patriarchal society where the husband works and makes the decisions, while the wife stays home to raise the kids and cook dinner. This naturally flows into a mindset that views girls primarily as future mothers, whose purpose is to bring forth more children. That's why whenever you see a crazy story about people trying to lower age of consent or age of marriage laws, it's almost always a Republican movement. It's why you have the current Secretary of Defense supporting religious leaders who preach that women must be submissive to their husbands and that an ideal society would have one vote per household, cast by the father. While many of us are concerned about low birth rates, the GOP quickly dismisses the easiest solutions (immigration, better healthcare, affordable childcare) in favor of policies to push there preferred demographic into having more kids, intentionally or not. An environment where women are submissive, and their purpose is solely to bring forth more children, is the dream environment for a pedo who wants to control women from very young ages. It's something so outlandish that you reject it when you first hear it, and you continue to reject it for a while, but when the evidence continues to pile up, the whole thing becomes a bit more clear.

“4. No syncretistic faith can withstand analytical criticism. The critical spirit makes distinctions, and to distinguish is a sign of modernism. In modern culture the scientific community praises disagreement as a way to improve knowledge. For [MAGA], disagreement is treason.“

“We can unilaterally release files about MLK, Clinton, whoever, but we have no ability to release Epstein files and therefore, Congress is now closed.” I mean, even if you didn’t think there was something there in the Epstein thing before, you have to think there is at this point.
-
Looks like they can release the MLK files and the Hillary Clinton files but for some weird reason, they can’t release the Epstein files… Anyone have a guess as to why that might be?
-
There’s a really easy solution to this for the party in power: just put it on the floor for an up or down vote. Weird how it seems they will do anything to avoid that…

ITT: Self-proclaimed free speech warriors / anti cancel culture people excited that someone whose speech they disagree with is being canceled almost certainly to facilitate a corporate merger. I can’t remember the last time I watched Colbert but dear lord you’re all telling on yourselves here.

The MAGA lie here is that they have a plan to transition these programs to the states. They don't. They're just getting rid of the people who ensure that the programs are meeting kids' needs and letting it all fall to the wind. Sure, some states may step in to close the gaps, but many can't or won't. And the kids in those states will suffer because of it. They could have proposed a plan to transition programs, to ensure there won't be negative externalities, but they didn't. Because they don't care. "Let's see how the states do" is just "I don't give a damn about other people's kids as long as I get mine." Interesting idea that this all "Seemed to work well enough prior to the feds unsuccessfully attempting to save the day" when the point of the Feds coming in is that states were violating students civil rights and not providing help of those in need. The bottom line is that they have zero solutions. Anything they don't like, they'll burn to the ground and let other people sort out, no matter the consequences.
