  1. Great post. You hit the target dead center.
  2. I totally agree with your entire post. If Batten, Easley and Wang pan out this year, this could turn out to be among the very best back-to-back drafts in Bills history. The Bills are being remade before our eyes into what has the promise of being a ferocious defense.
  3. Because they're a little thin at that position, because the kid played receiver quite well, because he is a good returner and because Buddy said the Bills would be looking at RB later in the draft.
  4. I can't remember the last time the Bills had this satisfying of a draft. Buddy, yer gittin' it done!
  5.
  6. You nailed it. For those of you in blue collar Buffalo so worried about the "poor" owners, remember, for example, that Ralph Wilson spent $50,000 for the Bills franchise (about $700,000 in today's sad excuse for the dollar) and his heirs will sell it for a figure approaching a billion dollars. Pass the hat.
  7. Make it so, Number One.
  8. Please reveal the name of this magical QB who will be available Thursday. (There better be two magical QBs because if such a creature exists in this year's draft, there would be no doubt whatsoever who Carolina would take with the #1 overall pick).
  9. Any player picked in the top ten (and getting the kind of money that comes with that ranking) is expected to start in their first season, QBs included. In the case of Gabbert and Newton, every respectable critique I've heard says that neither one is ready to start, that they both need a year or twoto "train them up" to NFL standards. And even then there are no guarantees that they'll succeed. Considering the Bills situation, I don't think Nixley can wait a couple of years to see if maybe a Newton or a Gabbert pan out, especially if Dareus or Miller is there for the taking.
  10. My feeling is that the Bills have Dareus #1 and Miller #2. If either one is available at 3, they take him. If both are gone, then I think the Bills will be open to trading down. The Skins would be ideal because there will still be several really good D players available at #10, in particular, Cam Jordan, who I think (trying to parse Nixley's statements here) the Bills hold in high regard. Picking Jordan at 3 (if Dareus and Miller were gone) would bring a world of criticism, I believe (and a quite high contract). But at 10, it would be much more acceptable. Plus the Bills would pick up another slot in this draft, and perhaps another high one next year.
  11. Sure, it would be ideal to pick a franchise QB. But once again I have to ask, where is this mythical creature to be found in this year's draft? You do know that there is a difference between wanting a unicorn and there actually being unicorns, right. On the other hand, the Bills have an adequate Qb in place but have huge holes in the defense. And wonder of wonder! There is a surplus of D players available this year. Real live ones, not make-believe ones like that "franchise QB" that supposedly exists.
  12. The assumption in these situations is that the guy is always at fault. Based on this report, could it be that she's been the loony all along?
  13. Possibly the best, ready-to-play-right-now Qb in the draft is Ryan Mallet. Would anybody here recommend taking him third overall? If you say No, then you have to question why you'd take Newton at that spot. After all, not only is Newton not ready to play from day one, he, too has some serious character questions.
  14. In Mayock's latest rankings, he has Gabbert as the 5th best player overall, and Cam Newton at 14th. Here's the link: http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/09000d5d81f19e10/article/defense-still-rules-top-32-but-with-a-few-fresh-faces-included BTW, Dareus now is #1 overall, followed by Miller and Peterson. Most interesting change is Cameron Jordan moved up to #11, followed immediately by J. J. Watt. Nick Fairley is at 8.
  15. Baldwin's mother is a Bills fan. I'm not sure exactly where she lives but it's upstate. On one of the talk shows last year, maybe on Letterman, he was asked why he doesn't move his mother to Los Angeles and out of the cold winter weather. To which Baldwin explained that he's tried that. But his mother refuses because she can't give up Wegman's. Then Baldwin went on to explain about Wegman's (favorably) which led to him doing a commercial for the store this past Christmas time.
  16. The two main problems with the Bills defense, according to Nix, are rushing the passer and stuffing the run. If (in my opinion, a big If) they take Miller, it will be precisely to rush the passer. And that means he plays OLB.
  17. The reason that all signs pointed to Spiller last year was because Nix clearly stated what he was looking for, a "water spider" running back. This year he's been harping on defense, in particular getting a run-stuffer. How you conclude that means the Bills are going to draft Gabbert is beyond me.
  18. This thread is like something out of FOX News, where the "reporters" take a fairly uncontroversial remark out of a much larger conversation that states the exact opposite then make that innocuous remark the entire point. Please, go and watch the entire interview with Nix and Modrak. Please. Yes, it was said that #3 was an ideal place to pick a QB. But it was clear that they weren't at all convinced that there was a QB in this draft worthy of that pick. And they made it as clear as could be that it was much more important to stop the run(Nix, I believe it was, went so far as to say that even a pass rusher was secondary to a run stuffer).
  19. Do Kyle Willims and Torrell Troup not count as NTs? Williams might be undersized for the traditional NT and Troup is only going into his second year. But to my mind, that's one position (WR would be another) that is far down the Must Fix NOW list. If the Bills take another NT, my guess is it will come far later in the draft.
  20. I fully agree with your assessment. I would add that an improvement in the defense will mean the opponent's offense spends less time on the field and scores fewer points, giving the Bills offense more time on the field and the chance to score more points. It's pretty much Fottball 10 but that change alone should dramatically raise the number of wins and competitive losses and lead to "experts" at ESPN and the NFL network being "amazed" by the "improvement" in Fitz. Of course, it will be the same Fitz of last year, just with more scoring opportunities for the Bills and less for the opponents. But the "experts" will be shocked none the less.
  21. I felt he did a good job on the Notre Dame games last season.
  22. Whatever the offense's flaws are, the fastest way to improve it is through...a better defense. There are only 60 minutes in a game and when your D gives up third down conversion after third down conversion, the Time Of Possession for your offense becomes shorter and shorter. If a better defense can force more three-and-outs, it gives your offense more opportunities to score while cutting into your opponents opportunities to put points on the board. You can draft the greatest QB that ever lived but if the D can't get him on the field, it becomes an exercise in futility.
  23. Here's my suggestion: If you really, really want to know what King meant, ask him. Send him an email. He's responded to me before and I'm sure, if you told him this was driving some people around here nuts, that he'd clear it up for you.
