2018 Veteran QBs - the Mega Poll
transplantbillsfan replied to The Frankish Reich's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tyrod because I don't want a veteran QB. I want to draft a QB high in the 1st, period. I think Taylor's more likely to still be in Buffalo next year with our 1st round pick than any of those other choices. As it says in the poll, Taylor's under contract. -
Hypothetical - If Peterman won the game
transplantbillsfan replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Peterman sucks. I'm sorry, but he does. His weak a$$ arm is the sole reason that ball was intercepted when it should have been a completed pass. But yes, given a concussion to Taylor, Peterman would have started next week. -
And 3/6 predict that it's Nate Peterman. http://www.espn.com/blog/buffalo-bills/post/_/id/30895/where-will-tyrod-taylor-play-in-2018-nfl-insiders-predict Good God! I hope not. Yet again, today I saw the reason I really didn't like Peterman at all in the offseason. That ball that was intercepted would've been a completed pass for anyone with an NFL arm. Peterman doesn't have the arm strength to be the starting QB in Buffalo. Anticipation is great, but he better throw his sideline out patterns as he's getting off the team bus to make sure it's not intercepted. I kid... I kid... Believe me, as soon as Taylor got knocked out of the game, I was screaming and rooting for Peterman as he ran for that first down and praying that he would win the game and lead us to some miracles. I did the same thing when he started against the Chargers. The other leaders in the ESPN insider clubhouse include Sam Bradford and Alex Smith. Really? They think this regime would prefer an aging vet??? One who's had how many healthy seasons in the NFL??? I guess these guys can't think outside the box and see that we're going to be going really hard at drafting a rookie QB, can they? My way to early prediction…? The top 4 picks include Cleveland twice, who neither Donald nor Rosen have reported wanting to play for and there's reported interest in Mayfield. The Colts, who don't need a quarterback. And the Giants, and Gettleman almost sounds like he might move forward with Eli for a couple more years. I think we are very likely prepared to give up our two first round draft choices along with our second round draft choice and probably next years 1st or maybe 2nd round draft choice to go up and get either Darnold or Rosen. Based on reports, sounds like Darnold, who I prefer based on the little I know, though he's a QB I realize we're likely to take some serious lumps with. I think Sam Darnold is our 2018 game 1 starter. That's my waaaAAAAAAAyyyyy too early prediction. Yours?

And I'll thank you for the complement, as well. But may I suggest going back and reading the very first 2 full paragraphs of the OP? You're grossly exaggerating what I'm saying about Taylor. Seems to be a common mistake on a sports message board, though, so by no means are you the only guilty party. I know I have been guilty of doing it, myself.

I really agree with you a lot more than you think I disagree with you. In fact, I almost entirely agree with you. But as for your 220 average passing yard benchmark, Taylor averaged 217 per game in 2015, so it's not like he's incapable of doing that with an outside threat and an OC who calls games that cater to Taylor's strengths. Dennison isn't that guy and he's not going anywhere, so Taylor just isn't the QB this team should bank on for more than next year.

I gotta say, I love the links! Are you able to just ask questions to pro football reference and it searches and compiles the data for you? Good stuff! So, it isn't the "vast majority of QBs," I was wrong there. But it's not all that anomalous. Over 20 starting caliber QBs have had multiple sub 40 Passer Rating games since 2007 and a handful of starting caliber QBs have done the same. I see you included a link to the passing yards too, which wasn't part of that discussion. Why did you choose 180? Plenty of QBs, including a league MVP and a handful of other Franchise QBs have averaged at least 3 sub 180 yard passing games a year over the last 3 years. Again, great find!

Dear Lord, Shady! You ask what target is moving and follow it up immediately by acknowledging that you moved your target. And then, in the very same post, you move your target yet again. It's unbelievable! At what point were we talking about "locked in the top 10 QBs?" Sheesh, I think anytime in the future you ever ask for proof of anything that involves legwork and looking up data, anyone and everyone should disregard because you're just going to constantly change your argument and move your target.
-
The vast majority of NFL QBs I guarantee you could find games with passer rating is in the 30s. I won't waste my time looking; you're just going to move your target again. They do? Proof? One thing that's sure working against you is that, ya know, we're 9-7 and in the playoffs this year and the guy you're condemning is 23-20 in the NFL over the last 3 years as a starter. I would list all those QBs with that "razzle dazzle" that we so desperately needed and that apparently correlates with wins who actually have worst records then Taylor over the last three years, but then some dummy would accuse me of saying Taylor's better than those guys.

No. 5 picks in a half happened 3 times in 25 years, according to you. And Fitz threw all his in the 2nd half. Peterman didn't see the field in the 2nd half. Who knows how many picks he might have thrown, especially considering he was lucky he didn't get another pick 6 and a lost fumble on a snap he wasn't ready for. There's a reason that was labeled as the worst performance by a QB since the AFL/NFL merger. Peterman was NOT ready. This insistent defense of Peterman is just strange. He's not as bad as that game... But he's not our Franchise QB... do some of you just love him so much because he's the "other" on a team with Tyrod Taylor under center?

The 32 QBs, all of who started most of their games (Hundley instead of Rodgers / Savage instead of Watson / Siemian instead of Osweiler or Lynch) averaged 30.8% of their passing attempts when they were leading. That's all QBs. Obviously there are going to be QBs who win a ton and have the lead a whole bunch whose percentages will be higher and you'll have utterly crappy teams like the Browns who almost never have the lead, which is why only 6.1% of Deshone Kizer's passes come when his team was leading. I'm almost surprised there were any in that case. But there were 17 teams who finished with records between 7-9 & 11-5. Not so utterly crappy they never have a lead. Not so dominant they always have it. The QBs for those 17 teams averaged 33.3% of their passing attempts with those teams leading. Please, feel free to check those calculations to make sure they're correct. You'll find them easily in the "situational stats" portion of the stats for each player on NFL.com. Conclusion: On average the Bills threw the ball significantly less than other teams in the NFL with a lead.

We've played this game before. I think at least a couple of us have given you a number of QBs and given reasoning, you just don't seem to listen. Clearly you don't agree, and that's fine. But that doesn't mean you are right. What a GM would do is not the same as whether the QB is better. Bunching those two questions together, which are two very separate things, is a really stupid and dirty way for you to just try and change the argument. Guess you like making moving targets, too. You're probably right

This, very simply, is "the world in reality" , and we have some flexibility in making certainly we don't downgrade and/or we can get some value for Taylor as opposed to just cutting him, which is a possibility but a lot less likely than many here seem to think. You're being naive if you think $16m isn't a modest contract for a top 20 veteran QB. Do us all a favor if Taylor is the starter here in 2018... it's something that seems nearly impossible for you: admit you were very wrong
-
No, you're just doing your typical you and making a bull crap moving target, like you always do. Remember last year when Taylor was fantastic in the red zone and you still complained constantly about him? If it's what happens in the RZ that counts, then why weren't you a Taylorite (is that really the moronic new name you're using?) last offseason? Hey look! Another moving target! Sorry but I have a life. What time I spend on here I want to spend in focused discussion, not discussion that's CONSTANTLY being shifted because a poster is all friggin over the place.
