But he is now. Of course the relative value of contracts changes over the years. Not arguing that. They are still paying the maximum right now though. There's no point in re-signing your own players or being a good team with a chance at a ring if you're just going to pay the same amount as a bad team team would for the same player on the open market. Good player, bad value. Your parents named you Uille?

I won't argue that he's at least as good if not better than those players, but other teams overspending on mediocre TE's should not have an outsized impact on our approach. It's a weird time for TE's because you have some top 10 talents playing on rookie deals. Meanwhile you have guys like Ertz and Waller who are better than Knox and making significantly less money.
-
I really don't like it. Knox is a fine player, but he's far from an elite talent based on what he's shown so far. I think he's closer to top 10 than top 5. A team that's a league favorite shouldn't have to overpay for mediocrity the same way we did when we were in the drought. If he wanted top 5 money, i would have rather drafted a replacement and signed a guy like Gesicki to mid term.

When do you typically get big game, game day anxiety?
BullBuchanan replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall
Sure, but that's nothing to be nervous about. It's something to be excited about. They could get blown out 48-0 and it won't effect my feelings about our year at all if they bounce back the next week. -
They didn't. Josh Allen did. You can have all "the process" you want but Case Keenum, Matt Barkley, Davis Webb and Tyrod Taylor aren't making you SB contenders, even with the rest of the team. There was a lot of talent here before before Beane even walked in the door including White and our vaunted Safety duo in Poyer and Hyde. He drafted some nice complimentary pieces, traded for Diggs and signed Miller. That's all great, but without Allen none of it matters. If he had the #1 pick in the draft is Beane taking Allen, the raw prospect with spoty accuracy and football that never won a thing in one of the worst conferences in D1? I'm sure he'd tell you yes, but if he was that sure that Allen was going to be as great as he was, he should have been a lot more concerned he wouldn't be there by the time our pick rolled around. That's not to say that both buys haven't done their jobs very well. A good process ensures you have as many opportunities to have probability favor you as possible. The way the cap has been handled, the way they've brought in competition for positions of need are all good things. Some of these high end draft picks other than Allen need to start producing before I'm ready to give too much credit to Beane. It is clear that McDermott has had a meaningful positive, and has shown he can have a team be competitive even without a marquee QB. Then again, so did Rex Ryan - he just didn't have the Bengals to help him get to the playoffs.

I don't see this as a big game. Yea, they're last year's Super Bowl winner, but it's a new season, and they don't crown champions in September. -
I was over it 15 minutes after it happened. It wasn't my first Bills game.

Help me understand an OBJ trade
BullBuchanan replied to Behindenemylines's topic in The Stadium Wall
Prior to his potential SB MVP, he had 300 yards over 8 games. Can he ball out for a game? Sure, but lots of guys can, Crowder included. I'm not definitively saying Crowder is better right now, but he has outperformed him the last 3 years which is a long time in a WR's life. -

BullBuchanan replied to Behindenemylines's topic in The Stadium Wall
He'll be 30 in a few months coming off a major injury and 4 years removed from a 1000 yard season. OBJ's days of commanding a big contract are over unless some GM is desperate enough to give it to him. He'll be a lesser version of late-career TO at this point bouncing from team to team on 1-2 year deals at a couple million a stop. I'd love OBJ, but not as anything more than a 4th WR at this stage of his career. I'm not 100% convinced he's an upgrade over Crowder. -
Is Boston Media finally starting to sour on Bilicheat?
BullBuchanan replied to muppy's topic in The Stadium Wall
If not for Belichick, Tom Brady is working in Admissions at U of M instead of being the GOAT married to a super model richer than he is. He never would have played a down in the NFL. Probably wouldn't have even been invited to a camp. He's the greatest coach the game has ever seen and it's not even close. -
How Much Is an Order of Chicken Wings Where You At?
BullBuchanan replied to Gugny's topic in Off the Wall
The standard in Austin for wings is either 5 or 6 wings for $10-$12. This was pre-pandemic too. One place used to do a $0.75 wing night prior to the pandemic but they stopped and to my knowledge haven't resumed. As a result I don't eat wings much as there are better values, especially considering that the quality of wings down here isn't great to begin with. -
Matt Araiza accused of rape, served with a lawsuit.
BullBuchanan replied to bill8164's topic in Off the Wall
When you aren't making active efforts to fix systemic problems, it's indeed easy to make progress, because all options are open to you. You haven't run out of options yet, because you haven't tried anything. With respect to the untested rape kits, "nothing" is literally what's being done with respect to the untested ones. According to a 2015 report from the Atlantic, Houston had untested kits going back nearly 30 years. https://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2015/02/how-many-crimes-could-clearing-the-rape-kit-backlog-stop/385943/ I'm not "ascribing a simple solution to something", I'm saying that in order for any progress to be made at all, work needs to be done. Laziness is doing nothing and expecting things to improve. We hear people bemoaning all the increased violence that's "plaguing our cities" and yet when people say "hey, here's something to make it better" they cry about tax dollars, personal liberties, or about how it won't completely eradicate the problem, so we shoot it down and choose to do nothing instead. As someone that's basically a professional problem solver, it's maddening. With respect to your concerns about morality, I throw all of that right out the window as subjective nonsense. Your morality is your personal business, but it's not anyone else's morality and "debauchery" is a again, allowing personal perception and bias to cloud an actual tangible problem. Kids had raging parties 30, 50, 70, 200 years ago etc, and it's always been the past their prime generations that like to blame all the ills of the world on "kids these days". There's no amount of debauchery possible to excuse or justify someone of being raped. It's not Sanskrit, so no reason to translate. Just read it and do your best to comprehend. If you need help, drop me a line. -

Oh I'm aware of that. Seems like a great argument for increased wages, publicly funded higher education, and diversification of police budgets away from meter maids, bouncers, cars and gun to investigators and scientists. But I dunno, prolly talking out of my ass again. -

I didn't say that it will solve "everything", but yes, faster processing of rape kits will contribute to more charges, convictions less rapists on the streets. Their value is known and has been proven in arrests that are made years after the fact when it would be otherwise impossible to do so. What we're effectively doing in this country is throwing smoking gun evidence into the back of a storage facility and letting it languish for months or years. Are there cases where it won't lead to a conviction? Sure, but that doesn't mean you do literally nothing for all the rest of the cases where it will. Train and hire more of them if that's the issue. Pretty straightforward. -

BullBuchanan replied to bill8164's topic in Off the Wall
Everything that could be wrong with a statement on sexual assault is in your statement. He's really absolved of nothing except that it's possible he didn't know she was underage. It's still possible that he knew, as well as it's possible that he's guilty of everything else on top of it. Unfortunately your statements are pretty common in the way people approach these incidents and It's probably why there's so little prevention and so little justice. -

Oh for sure. I'm sure you find some interesting takes in PPP too. -

BullBuchanan replied to bill8164's topic in Off the Wall
I imagine if we as a society put in a sliver as much effort to trying to solve sexual assault cases as some people do in trying to find any possible way to discredit a rape victim, there probably wouldn't be 100s of thousands of unprocessed rape kits in this country and thousands->millions of sexual predators walking around our streets. It's a shame we have no control over that. A damn shame. -
Belichick presser - Surprise visitor

Same. He's a football icon as far as I'm concerned and it really doesn't have much to do with the Bills. -
2022 updated depth chart after cuts
BullBuchanan replied to CorkScrewHill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Benford shouldn't play that much. You have Elam, Jackson, and Johnson as your top 3 and I'd expect Neal to mix in if needed. Jackson is a competent #2 and I think Elam will be a beast right away. I'm not worried about DB. I'm glad they didn't sign a guy like Joe Haden that just takes snaps away from the guys that need them. I think we should fully expect to win the division at this point, so if young DBs have to take some lumps over the first few weeks against Cooper Kupp and Tyreek hill that's fine. If they rise tot he challenge, even better. If they struggle enough to the point where it's determined they will be a liability down the stretch, go and get Haden or somebody else at that point.
