  1. There are a lot of reopenXX state Facebook groups that have popped up this past week. People lasted longer than I thought they would in lock down.
  2. Michigan: Gov. Gretchen Whitmer facing lawsuit over stay at home order "We need the courts to step in and say this is not okay.” A lawsuit was filed against Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Tuesday over her stay at home order, which has kept Michiganders at home except for completing tasks necessary to sustain life. The orders have been put into place to help curb the spread of COVID-19. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court in Detroit by David C. Helm of Helm Law; it names five plaintiffs who are seeking damages, but primarily want to get the order lifted or revised. The main argument is that the fundamental rights of each of those involved were violated by the executive order. </snip> This legal action against Whitmer makes it clear that it is not contending the decision to issue the executive orders or if they were within her authority to issue. "This suit accepts as fact that Governor Whitmer took action for a public purpose," the lawsuit says. But it argues that the plaintiffs' constitutional rights were violated by mandating them to stay home. The primary argument being made by Helm is that the executive order are illegally taking people's property without compensation, which violates the fifth amendment takings clause. The lawsuit says that because Martinko was not allowed to access his company property under the order and because Contender's Tree and Lawn Specialists was not allowed to operate, his rights were infringed upon. </snip> While only a couple weeks remain on the existing order, Helm said it's unlikely they'll be able to get it overturned before it expires. But he said the main goal in filing the lawsuit was to ensure that moving forward, this doesn't lay the groundwork for any governor to take sweeping actions. He argues the state should create a targeted approach to rein in the virus, saying "they can't use a sledge hammer to kill an ant." A jury trial was requested for this case. </snip>
  3. There is a rumor that WaPo sat (is sitting) on a story confirming that the Wuhan Virus was indeed manufactured in the lab, and then escaped via an animal sale in the local wet market ... you know, the original story people heard that was quickly put down to a "conspiracy theory." ?‍♂️ Wouldn't shock me to find out that rumor is true. In light of this story today, I wonder if we will see that rumored story in the future? Assuming it exists, of course.
  4. Trump: will not pressure any state to reopen.
  5. The WHO investigation will be 60-90 days.
  6. He wants to get sports back. (I agree!) Sounds like a separate call. I'm not sure if he's yapping about who he has had conversations with, or who he intends to have conversations with. I think I lost the plot. New calls. He just clarified. Religious people too so they can get churches reopened. Some states can open very soon... almost immediately. He just mentioned "end of April" for some, or sooner. Others will take a longer time.
  7. The list of people for that reopening task force will be available tomorrow. They will meet by video (phone?). He's naming some now: a lot of food, farms, agricultural, banking, construction, unions, builders, contractors, defense contractors, energy... Sounds like a united nations of companies/industries across the United States.
  8. FDA has now authorized the first saliva test (from Rutgers) . They will be processing 10K daily.. Cheerleading for the economy. Plans for reopening are close. He's gonna be speaking to all 50 governors, and authorizing each of them (individually) to reopen their state as most appropriate. Close... maybe before the date of May 1st. Says 20 states are in good shape. The federal government will be watching closely when they reopen, and will be there to help. We will hold the governors accountable, but we will be working closely with them.
  9. Adam (somebody) working on a program to allow hospitals to lend ventilators when needed. He's naming some big places (like Cleveland clinic, mayo clinic). This is a virtual reserve, along with the federal reserve, will ensure no American who needs a ventilator is without one. Trump: met with leaders of hospitals and hospital associations. Partnering for the ventilator reserve (what the Adam-guy did). Dynamic Ventilator Reserve Program He's got some big name heads of hospitals up there now.
  10. The "political correctness, over lives," when he talked about closing flights to China when the rest of the world delayed, is gonna leave a mark. There are 10K ventilators in the federal stockpile ready to go if there is a surge.
  11. America and the world has chosen to rely on the WHO for accurate and timely reporting. If we cannot rely on them, we will have bo choice but to look elsewhere for (something). So much death has been caused by their (WHO) mistakes. All of the aid we send will be discussed with influential medical and political people. We will be discussing with other countries. Maybe WHO will reform? Maybe they won't?
  12. WHO failed in the basic duty to tell the truth. They failed to investigate Wuhan sources that conflicted with China. WHO parroted and endorsed that there was not human-to-human transfer. WHO did not get scientific samples from China. The world received all sorts of false info from WHO. The doctors that disappeared in China is very concerning. Had the WHO done its job to get (something) into China, it could have saved thousands of lives, and prevented economic damage. They took China at face value. (Note: all this is paraphrased, he's reading off notes and so going fast)
  13. Trump up Mnuchin reached an agreement with the major airlines for a payroll support program. Instructing his administration to halt funding to WHO! Sounds like they are gonna look into WHO for full accountability. He's hammering WHO on how they responded to the coronavirus and listened to China. WHO was not timely, accurate, or transparent.
  14. Yeeeaaaaah, I'm out. You have a good day.
  15. I am not a Conservative. I hold two (firm) positions that bar me from ever having that appellation. ? I am a political mutt. Whether or not I agree with the 9-black-robed wonders being the final say, legislative and executive branches have ceded that power to them. Again, the act you are complaining about granting the president a ***** ton of powers in a time of national disaster was affirmed by the SC this past July. Until Congress can get together and form a veto proof majority to have those acts repealed, they are here to stay.
  16. Why not start a thread and ask that? ?
  17. This is interesting reporting from NPR (they have some audio). Bloomberg News Killed Investigation, Fired Reporter, Then Sought To Silence His Wife </snip> Six years ago, Bloomberg News killed an investigation into the wealth of Communist Party elites in China, fearful of repercussions by the Chinese government. The company successfully silenced the reporters involved. And it sought to keep the spouse of one of the reporters quiet, too. "They assumed that because I was the wife of their employee, I was the wife," the author and journalist Leta Hong Fincher tells NPR. "I was just an appendage of their employee. I was not a human being." Fincher is married to the journalist Mike Forsythe, a former Beijing correspondent for Bloomberg News who now works at The New York Times. In 2012, Forsythe was part of a Bloomberg team behind an award-winning investigation into the accumulation of wealth by China's ruling classes. The Chinese ambassador warned Bloomberg executives against publishing the investigation. But Bloomberg News published the story anyway. Afterward, Forsythe received what he and Fincher considered death threats relayed through other journalists. He and Fincher moved their family to Hong Kong, believing it to be safer. Even so, the reporting team pursued the next chapter, focusing on Chinese leaders' ties to the country's richest man, Wang Jianlin. Among those in the reporters' sights: the family of new Chinese President Xi Jinping. The story gained steam throughout 2013. In emails sent back to Bloomberg's journalists in China seen by Fincher, senior news editors in New York City expressed excitement. And then: radio silence from headquarters. That story never ran. "Mike and some of the other reporters and editors who had been working on this story just were asking for answers about ... why was this story killed?" Fincher says. </snip>
  18. I have no idea why you are shooting the messenger (me). You clearly have no idea what I stand behind, what I think of this entire situation, etc as your assertions indicate. I am bringing information forward as to why President Trump says he has the final say (because he does). This is not a power bestowed onto Trump alone, this is a power Congress bestowed upon any President. If you don't like it, consult your Congress-critter or go back in time to the 70s and 80s when those acts were written, and have them changed.
  19. If anyone ever wants to witness extreme cases of TDS, simply read the comments under the article. Incredible.
  20. Yeah, Biden is a GREAT alternative to Trump. Oh, more on why he has the final say (I wrote this in a different thread): National Emergencies Act. Stafford Act. Presidential Emergency Actions Documents. Look them up... well, as far as you can. Apparently, some powers are classified. (Isn't that scary?) What the president has the ability to do, and what he eventually does may well be two different things. But, there is no question that these acts give him the final say when a disaster is national.
  21. </snip> Today, the Department filed a Statement of Interest in support of a church in Mississippi that allegedly sought to hold parking lot worship services, in which congregants listened to their pastor preach over their car radios, while sitting in their cars in the church parking lot with their windows rolled up. The City of Greenville fined congregants $500 per person for attending these parking lot services – while permitting citizens to attend nearby drive-in restaurants, even with their windows open.[1] The City appears to have thereby singled churches out as the only essential service (as designated by the state of Mississippi) that may not operate despite following all CDC and state recommendations regarding social distancing. </snip>
