Yes, this was a formality. Everyone has known since the CBA was ratified that the league secured the right to expand the regular season to 17 games, and that they were highly likely to exercise that option. Nevertheless, today it was announced that they definitely WILL be exercising that option, beginning in 2021. Personally, I HATE that this is happening. I don't see any reason for it other than money. I get that the NFL is a business, but they're doing JUST FINE, thank you very much. There are many other ways to continue to increase revenue without lengthening the regular season. There were even polls done in recent years by PFT and other outlets asking if fans were in favor of expanding the regular season, and the majority of fans voted that they WERE NOT in favor of it. Yet here we are. Ugh. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/03/28/yes-the-nfl-will-expand-to-17-regular-season-games-this-week/ "Maybe it’s just a slow news day. Whatever the case, a report from ESPN that the NFL’s owners are expected to add a 17th regular-season game this week is not news. Anyone who has been paying any attention to the NFL over the past few months knew that it wasn’t just “expected” to happen, but that it is happening. The only question left is whether the NFL will reduce the preseason to three games or to two. The owners are expected (am I doing that right?) to reduce the preseason to three games."

With the 18th pick in the 2021 TSW Mock Draft, the Miami Dolphins select EDGE Gregory Rousseau, Miami Our GM watched our team lose a season ending win-and-in game to the Buffalo Bills in which we gave up 56 points. FIFTY-SIX! Stopping the elite Buffalo passing offense is a priority for us. We like our cornerback room, but if we're going to beat the Bills and claim the AFC East crown, we need to make Josh Allen uncomfortable. We like Andrew Van Ginkel and Emmanuel Ogbah, but let's be honest: that's not exactly a murderer's row attacking off the edges. We need more juice, more explosiveness. at 6'7" and 265 lbs, and with speed and bend, Gregory Rousseau offers exactly that. You simply can't teach the size and athleticism that this man possesses. While Rousseau opted out of the 2020 college season, he posted an eye-popping 15.5 sacks in 2019. He is raw and can fairly be called a boom-or-bust prospect. Luckily, Rousseau played in our own backyard at Miami U. Our scouts had the chance to watch him up close and personal on multiple occasions, and we feel comfortable with the risk. We feel quite confident that we are adding the best pure pass rusher in this class. Running back and wide receiver are still needs for us, but we believe strongly in positional value in the first round, and we believe in taking the best player available. At pick 18, both of those beliefs align in the form of Gregory Rousseau. @whatdrought and the Washington Football Snyders are on the clock.

@section122 It didn't seem like the tag worked there.

Yep. The Bills front office is pretty tight-lipped, it’s true. But the notion that no one could possibly have any idea of who they like in upcoming drafts is silly. Several prominent media personalities knew they wanted Allen. It was well known that they wanted Ed Oliver. They do a great job keeping most things under wraps, but they’re not an impenetrable steel trap of secrets. Enough with that silliness.

@Virgil Regarding the 1st page draft results — I’m probably literally the only one who cares whatsoever, but the OCD part of me demands that I point this out: There is no Michael Parsons. It’s Micah Parsons. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

I agree with this wholeheartedly, though that may just be the "Dolphins GM" part of me that wanted Chase. I can at least see the logic for giving Joe Burrow a receiver with whom he has instant chemistry and proven success. Chase will be a really good player, I think. People seem to think Penei Sewell is a home run at tackle. I've heard him compared to Johnathan Ogden. I saw Bengals fans holding up a "Penei for your thoughts" sign during one of their games this past season. I think a lot of Bengals fans are hoping he's the pick. Fair point, but I'm not sure I think Jonah Williams can be a long term left tackle in this league. Drafting Sewell and kicking Jonah Williams in to LG would be my wish as a Bengals fan. Their o-line was absolutely ABYSMAL last season. Like really, really bad. Williams at LT was part of that, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure that just adding Reiff moves the needle much. Then again, I'm just an armchair QB sitting on my couch talking crap, so what do I know?

With the sixth pick in the 2021 TSW Mock Draft, the Miami Dolphins select OT Penei Sewell, Oregon Our top priority as an organization is to surround Tua Tagovailoa with protection and weapons, so that we can see if he is “the guy” as soon as possible. We were evaluating wide receiver prospects at this spot. We frankly did not expect a player of Penei Sewell’s caliber to be available at six. We feel he is a generational talent at offensive tackle, with the potential to be a perennial All-Pro and the best tackle in the league. Respectfully, we also wonder who is going to keep Joe Burrow upright next season in Cincinnatti... While we just drafted Austin Jackson and Robert Hunt last season, Sewell was truly the Best Player Available here, and we simply could not pass on adding him to our team. We believe that Robert Hunt, a thickly built player at 324 lbs, can slide into the right guard spot, and that Jackson and Sewell can be bookend tackles for years to come. By adding Sewell at tackle and sliding Robert Hunt to guard, we feel we’re improving two positions at once. Additionally, since our quarterback is left-handed, it is very important to have a high quality right tackle. We will let competition and camp reps decide who plays on the left and who plays on the right between Jackson and Sewell. Both pass catchers that we would have considered here were already selected, and we didn't feel there were any others worthy of the sixth pick. Linebacker Micah Parsons was also considered here, but again, the value screamed Sewell's name. At the end of the day, we simply went with the best player available on our draft board. @Watkins101and the Detroit Lions are now on the clock Nope. Sucked big ones. Was gonna go Chase. Gotta stick with the draft board though, and its hard to turn down a franchise tackle.

It’s nice to not give a ***** this time of year
Logic replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can remember so many seasons where the Bills were essentially out of the playoff race by Halloween or, if things were going really well, by Thanksgiving. Instead, this year I had the distinctly weird experience of reading about teams' end-of-season pressers, fired coaches, new coach hires, and released players, all while still watching the Bills play football three playoff weekends in a row. It was WEIRD. Also, having the Bills season end in the AFCCG has made this offseason/run-up to the draft seem much shorter than usual. Instead of studying draftable players since the fall, I only just started in the first week of March. What lunacy! I admit that it took some adjustment to go from "the offseason is the most fun part of football!" to "the actual FOOTBALL is the most fun part of football", but here we are. I hope to continue to be "bored" by the offseason for the next 20 years. -
As far as their allotted official 30 visits: In 2018, Bills did not meet with Edmunds. In 2019, Bills did not meet with Ford. In 2020, Bills did not meet with Epenesa (but: COVID). As far as chatting with them in passing or at the combine....that may be a different story and is harder to track.

Thanks as always for putting this together. It’s always a fun few threads as we wait for the real draft. Seems like you already have a solid team of helpers, but if you need any more help or last minute subs or anything, don’t hesitate to ask!

FA RB/return specialist Tyler Ervin visiting Bills

I guess they really plan to have s legit competition at returner. -
Dolphins, Jets, Patriots please 😬

If only we lived in a world where Star’s dead cap hit wouldn’t be prohibitive and the Bills had some money to spend, Reed would be an awesome add. Since we DON’T live in such a world, it’ll likely be the Star and Harry show in 2021.
-
Tis the season for bottom-of-roster vet minimum deals that don’t affect the cap. Teams bring 90 players to camp and Bills have around 24 roster spots available currently.
-
Again I’ll say... For being fans of a team whose franchise QB was their entire running game in the playoffs last year, Bills Mafia sure is hostile to the idea of adding a potentially elite RB. I get the argument. “Poor value in the 1st”, “it’s the blocking”, etc, etc... I’m just saying that there are worse things than getting elite running back play on a rookie deal (and for five years, too, since you get the fifth round option on 1st rounders). You’d think not having our star QB have to double as our RB1 would be a GOOD thing!
-
Fair. What intrigues me about Harris is the speed and pass game ability he has at his size. He’s not JUST a power back, IMO. He has the speed to get to the edge and he’s smooth in the passing game. Again: I’m not passionate about it one way or the other. But if they want a potentially Pro Bowl level RB on a rookie contract for five years, I’m not gonna freak out. It’s not as if we didn’t all just watch our franchise QB be our ENTIRE running game in the playoffs.

There’s a good chance Penei Sewell is there at six. No way they could pass up on drafting him to give them bookend tackles (with Austin Jackson) for Tua.
-
All the tight end fear is silly to me. Last year, with both LBs battling injury all year, the Bills stunk at defending tight ends. This is true. In 2019, however, the Bills defense allowed the third fewest yards to tight end of any team in the league. Defending TEs was a major STRENGTH. So if the Phins take Kyle Pitts.....big deal! I hope they DO spend the 6th overall pick in a TE!
-
I guess we'll see. If no one makes a good offer, I absolutely believe they'll hang on to him for the season. If someone comes knocking with a 3rd round draft pick, though? The 49ers would be wise to start to recoup some of the draft capital they just gave up in this trade, and getting a decent pick back for a guy that's not in their long term plans is smart business.
-
Funny thing is, one of the few people who DID see it coming was Benjamin Albright, who just so happens to be the same guy saying the Bills are looking RB at 30. Also, I agree that Harris is the perfect fit for the Bills. Power backs go much better with spread offenses than speed backs. Come out in 10 or 11 personnel and the defense comes out in nickel or dime. Then you have a guy like Najee Harris back there and, well....the opposing defenders are gonna have to make some business decisions.
