TSW Mock Draft 2.0 Poll - Who should the Bills take at 25?
Logic replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’m normally Team “trade back!”, but Wilson is too good to pass up here. If he falls to 25, it’s a no brainer IMO. -
The right pick, no doubt.
-
He dropped a lot of passes in 2020, but not last year. He wasn’t even in the top 20 in dropped passes in 2021. Stefon Diggs was, though. https://scores.nbcsports.com/fb/leaders.asp?type=Receiving&range=NFL&rank=232

Smith and Olave is about as dreamy and silky a route running duo as one could imagine. Good pick.

With as bad as the Patriots have been at drafting WRs in real life, it seems like adding a guy coming off of a 100 catch, 1100 yard, 8 TD season for just a 2nd round pick would be a win for them.
-
The player needs a new contract, which always factors into these things. I tend to think it might be more like a 2nd and a conditional 5th that could become a 4th in real life, but for the purposes of this draft, there was no sense in talking late round picks. Others can feel free to weigh in, but I don’t think Johnson would fetch a 1st — particularly with his being in need of a new contract.

How dare you offer a respectful rebuttal based on contrary opinions provided by professionals other than the ones I listed! That's now how this works. You're supposed to arrogantly dismiss my comments, post a belittling emoji face, and claim that I don't watch enough football. Do better.

With the 21st pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select Nakobe Dean, LB, Georgia When we last saw Bill Belichick's defense, it looked like the Patriots players were stuck in mud against the Buffalo Bills. For years, New England employed big, strong, thumping linebackers weighing a minimum of 250 lbs. Multiple staff members in Patriots land have recently made it known that change is coming, because the direction of the league demands it. The Patriots need to find a way to keep up with division mates Buffalo and Miami, who both employ speed and athleticism that the Patriots defensive front seven currently can not match. Said Co defensive coordinator Jerod Mayo: "“We’re definitely going to look to get faster, look to get more explosive and look to put more playmakers on the field”. Patriots personnel man Matt Groh: “There’s not as many of those big linebackers. They just — they don’t exist...colleges want them smaller because they’ve got to be able to adapt to the college game...So, you can’t just create these guys out of thin air and so it’s with all the positions, it’s what the college game provides us. We have to just take what they are going to give us from year to year." In Dean, Belichick gets the new quarterback of his defense, whose speed and athleticism continue the sea change at linebacker that recently began with the acquisitions of Mack Wilson and of LB/S hybrids Jabril Peppers and Adrian Phillips. Dean has met several times with the Patriots, saying of his extensive conversations with them “I definitely enjoyed talking ball with them...Everything that they do is kind of from under the same tree [as Georgia]...They kind of run the same system as far as defense." The New England Patriots have also traded the 54th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to Pittsburgh in exchange for WR Diontae Johnson. The Patriots were eager to add a playmaker at wide receiver to help Mac Jones. They were approached by the Steelers when Diontae Johnson made it known to the team that he would be staying away from organized team activities until he got a new contract. The Steelers, who did not want to meet Johnson's contract demands, are not shy about drafting and developing WRs, nor are they shy about trading away young WRs (Santonio Holmes, Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant) or letting them walk (Emmanuel Sanders, Plaxico Burress) when their contract demands are too high. The Patriots -- who are absolutely, beyond-the-pale terrible at drafting WRs -- saw that Diontae Johnson spent the offseason training with Mac Jones in Tampa, recognized the degree to which his dynamic skillset would help their offense, and were thus happy to part with the 54th pick in exchange for his services. Having addressed two of our biggest needs with a dynamic leader and tone-setter on defense and a proven commodity at WR on offense, the Patriots move on to the third round looking at interior offensive linemen and corners. @H2o and the Philadelphia Eagles are now on the clock.

To be fair to Hall, his scouting report from Lance Zierlein on NFL.com says this: Strengths - Has the size of a high-volume back. - Touchdown monster from all ranges. - Finished career with five touchdown runs of 75 or more yards. - Gets around the field with good bend and balance. - Recognizes lane development before it happens. - Changes foot cadence for unpredictable burst point. - Sets up second-level tacklers to fail. - Patient behind lead blockers, steering them into defenders. - Makes rhythmic cuts with no loss of speed to beat open-field tacklers. - Powerful base absorbs contact and stays on his feet. - Drops pads and hammers through tacklers while falling forward. - Set of skills to become an above-average third-down option. and his scouting report from Dane Brugler, whose draft analysis I really respect, says this: "Drops his pads and finishes with contact balance, not making it easy on tacklers".

The New England Patriots are interested in moving down to accumulate more draft picks. With some prime WR talent (Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson), quality CB, EDGE, and LB prospects remaining on the board...if anyone would like to jump up to 21 to ensure they get their guy, now's the time. @H2o @Bill from NYC @Just Joshin' @GunnerBill @CNY Bills Fan @frostbitmic (Don't worry. I won't hold everyone up too long. If I don't get any offers here in the next little while, I'll just make the pick) Diontae Johnson is in the last year of his contract, is looking for a payday, and didn't show up to OTAs for the first time ever.

The question that I have -- and I don't know the answer, I'm just asking -- is: Is Breece Hall as good as, say, Jonathan Taylor? Because if he is, in my opinion, the whole "1st round RB is a bad value" argument goes out the window. To me, there's no denying that adding a Jonathan Taylor level running back talent to this offense would be the single best/fastest way to upgrade it, more so than adding a WR3/WR4. When opposing teams start going two-high all day long against the Bills next year, a dynamic running back will help a lot more than a slot receiver. We can all argue until we're blue in the face about analytics, contracts, and draft value, but if the question "what helps the Bills offense the most?" is asked, then "running back" might be a more realistic answer than WR3/WR4. And for what it's worth, Brandon Beane has plainly stated that he doesn't subscribe to the idea of "never take a running back in the 1st round", and that if the Bills ever view a running back as the BPA in round one, they won't hesitate to draft him. I'm just pointing this out because so many in the draft community are anti 1st round RB, but our GM doesn't seem to be one of these people. That's notable. Oh, and one more thing: Breece Hall is just 20 years old. Brandon Beane loves drafting young players with his 1sts.

NFL Gamepass is live for non-US subscribers. -
Personally, I think that with the depth of WR in this class, compared with the relatively unlikely prospect of getting an impact pass rusher beyond round 1....it's entirely possible the Chiefs would use their highest 1st round pick (or trade up) to select a pass rusher. I think Veach is a smart team builder, and it's entirely feasible that he could feel that a legitimate pass rush combined with a 2nd round receiver is more likely to get his team back to the promised land than staying pat at 29 and 30 and taking whatever falls. Yes the Chiefs will take a WR at some point early in this draft, but I think the idea that it's definitely going to be in the 1st round or via trade-up is misguided. I think they want a pass rusher as badly as a wideout.

For years now it's been possible to get an NFL Gamepass subscription -- all NFL games live as they happen, no blackouts, NFL Network, Red Zone, All-22 tape, archive of games going back five years and every Super Bowl ever -- for $200 per year. Then it's just a matter of broadcasting your computer screen to your TV either wirelessly or with an HDMI cable and BOOM, you have the same thing as DirectTV, but without the satellite subscription. I'll be interested to see if there's a new agreement for NFL Sunday Ticket with Apple and all, but it's not as if we can't get everything that Sunday Ticket includes, right now, and have been able to do so for years now. -
I read that teams are allowed to attempt two forward passes behind the line of scrimmage. I haven't seen any teams get creative with that rule yet. Seems like a waste of an opportunity not to use it.
-
Totally agree with this. Efficient offenses keep the clock moving. Bad offenses with tons of 3-and-outs and incomplete passes make the game drag on forever.
-
The games seem so much longer when the quality of play on the field is poorer. Like….there’s three more quarters of this?!
-
I like that Houston went hurry-up spread. QB play subpar for both teams, as expected .

Who's in the inner circle for Draft Day discussions?

I have never seen such an absurd love affair for a friggin punter. As others have pointed out, he’s not even the best punter coming out in the draft! He has the strongest leg, but does not actually, ya know, PUNT as effectively as others. I don’t know if it’s residual Brian Moorman fetishism or what, but Bills fans should get past the punter obsession, and past the idea of overspending on Araiza. If Beane drafts a punter in round four, I’ll eat my hat. Jordan Stout, from Pegula’s alma mater, and who was a better college punter than Araiza, has a much better chance of being a Bill…likely sometime between round 6 and UDFA.
