What We Must Believe to Believe Biden Won
oldmanfan replied to Unforgiven's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Here's what you have to believe to believe that Biden won: He got 306 Electoral College votes in a legal election. (Mic drop) -
The future for both parties and realignment
oldmanfan replied to Big Blitz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I’m all for some of the stuff listed towards the end of the OP. But what the Republican Party needs to embrace is actual Republican principals instead of bowing down to the man-child sitting in the White House for a few more weeks. When Republicans stand for things like fiscal conservatism again they’ll have a functional party. It’s also time to just ignore the lunatics on the fringes of both parties. The vast majority of people in this country are in the center; time for them to take charge. -
If Trump loses and refuses to leave

The vote count is accurate and is certified. Any errors are minuscule and are being found. You want something north of perfection. Andcerrors aren’t just found if someone questions. They normally are found by auditing and are then corrected. -

We have better hospital facilities. We’ve made advances in treatment. -

All states do some form of auditing before certifying votes. You want the vote to be correct them complain when the procedures used to ensure that actually work. What are you looking for? What would solve whatever problem you have? -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
oldmanfan replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Masks don’t work when people don’t wear them. Europe’s rates are going up because they slacked off their protections. Check Sweden -not doing so well. People don’t make the airborne virus; they spread the virus into the air, spreading that is mitigated by distancing and masking, which too many people ignore. I assume people opposing things like distancing and masks are the problem because they are more likely to contract and then spread the virus. Simple stuff. -

Because mail in ballots were counted after. And those came from more Democratic counties and cities. -

What is the difference between this election and those in the past, even closer elections in both the popular vote and the Electoral college? One person. One child really who sits in the White House spewing out nonsensical tweets about how he won an election he clearly lost. I have not asked anyone to surrender his rights - if this child wants to continue to act like a child and waste all the money that suckers (real suckers, not the ones he claimed served our country with honor) send to him more power to him. But it is time for the ascertainment function to proceed so the incoming administration can get up to speed. It is time for the Republicans to state this, as they would under opposite circumstances if it were a Democratic child throwing a tantrum. It is time for an orderly transition of government to begin so the new administration is fully ready to face the domestic and foreign challenges it will face on January 20th. If, through some bizarre upheaval of the space-time continuum and/or theft of the election, the current child maintains office, no harm will have been done by letting the process start now. -

I believe your premise is that Trump has a lot of good lawyers on his team. It would appear many have backed out, and I would seriously question any description of Giuliani as a good lawyer at this point., -

Those folks should be voted out. To all still continuing to question masks and Covid responses and on and on: How many more deaths will convince you? How many people dying are you OK with? How many more reports of hospitals being close to the breaking point will convince you? -

But he has had a number of lawyers and firms back out, I believe. And he put Giuliani in charge. Those are just facts. -

The process is playing out. All the states will certify their votes, they will show that the President-elect is in fact the President-elect. The process that is not, in fact, process, is the losing candidate filing lawsuit after lawsuit with no justification, and not allowing the President-elect access to information he needs to ensure proper hand off of government. It is time for all, including the most ardent Trump supporter, to realize that what they are doing is the equivalent of coddling a misbehaving child, Rather than trying to reason with a spoiled brat, you tell him the way things are going to be. We are where we are right now because we have a spoiled brat instead of a functioning adult in the white House for a few more weeks. -

Assuming your contention is correct, which I challenge, it would likely have to do with more legal mail in ballots sent by Democrats because they were concerned about the Coronavirus. -
A free press is the bastion of democracy. Without it you fall into totalitarianism. That said, it is laughable how so many towards the right always want to lean on media outlets like CNN. As if Fox and now OAN and Newsmax are somehow the guardians of honest, non-biased reporting. The issue is not whether the press tells the truth or not, the issue is that the reader has already made up his or her mind about what they want to believe and refuse to let actual data sway their view. And that goes for either extreme of the political spectrum.

If Trump loses and refuses to leave
oldmanfan replied to Kemp's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
In every election there is a smattering of human error that affects a few votes. Note: a few votes. There has never been, nor would I say there will ever be, mistakes that result in a problem with tens of thousands of ballots in multiple states. Unless it is deliberate. And only one party in this election seems to want to use illegal tactics to throw the election. Oh , and a recount in Georgia found a few votes that favor Trump. So there goes you theory that they only work in Biden's favor. -

You realize the Georgia Secretary of State and his wife have received death threats for him upholding a legal election, right? -

If the state legislatures did something like is being described it would disenfranchise the voters, which is antithetical to a democratic form of government. -

I found the Richards thing intriguing, and it caused me to think about MacArthur. I think the MacArthur parallel is more to the point than you. The degree of adoration in Trump supporters is reminiscent of MacArthur. This election is over, much like MacArthur’s command, but each of their supporters went through bouts of extreme hyperbole and denial. I know you keep asking why he should not be allowed to address things through the legal system, but he has. A number of times. And to absolutely no avail. Back during the Korean conflict it was critical that the idea of one Commander in Chief be upheld. The same now. We need to have an orderly transmission to the duly elected next Commander in Chief to assure the proper functioning of government. -
Anyone else wake up still feeling very optimistic?

Wouldn’t surprise me to see Yeldon replace Motor for a game just to see. -
I am independent. You are the partisan here. Why is it that to those in your universe that only those that trend to the left are partisan, but those like you that only watch Fox New or the other right wing alternatives are not? You lose the ability of the press to question government, you have a dictatorship. But that's what you wanted with Trump, wasn't it? Did he not say that under Article 2 he could do whatever he wanted? I voted for Biden not because I'm a fan of many of his policies, but because he wants to maintain our system of government and not turn our country into a dictatorship. So my question for you is simple: why did you want to have a dictator run our country?

The late bye works well for the Bills. I think anyone would have taken 7-3 at this juncture, and now we get guys healthy for the stretch run.

We have the inside track and the Fish are winning games with special teams plays and D. Tua hasn't been all that impressive, and as teams get film on him they'll slow him down even further. I remain optimistic about us winning the division.
