I understand that. Unfortunately there are too many morons relying on idiots they see on Facebook for their information. Here are just a few of the dumb things you see there: 1. The vaccine magnetized you 2. There are chips in them so Bill Gates can control you. 3. The vaccine gives you Covid And on and on. The amount of abject stupidity over this, all driven by political nonsense, is killing people or causing long term illness in folks who never should have gotten sick. Darwin is smiling in heaven.

Businesses and such should decide their policies on mandatory vaccines. Governments stay out of it at this point, because when they do like in Florida or Texas their political beliefs mandate them to kill you and your children if they think it will get them a vote.

Yes he is. And he is responsible for educating people. Which he is doing. And people are ignoring that education because they’d rather believe in conspiracy theories. You ever hear of the adage You can lead a horse to water...? Vaccinations are up. Vaccinated people have little if any risk of dying. Kids will be back in schools. So yes, he’s doing better.

What should he do? Should he mandate all Americans be vaccinated? That would be the best way to beat this thing but we know what you and others would say, and have said, to that idea. This country now has a Covid issue because of the willful stupidity of people that has been driven by insane political nonsense.

No. Wrong. Let’s say you’re a 70 year old individual with mild COPD that is being managed successfully. Or a Type 2 diabetic being managed with meds and diet/exercise. But then they get Covid, a virus that attacks the lining of their lungs as well as causing pathological changes in blood vessels. Now the pre-existing conditions you have are no longer able to be managed. Gas exchange in your lungs is severely affected, you start to develop blood clots. And the damage becomes so severe you die. Now the Covid did not cause your mild COPD or diabetes, but it killed you. Before vaccines it sure as hell killed you.

I got it that winter despite being vaccinated. If I recall the vaccine wasn’t as effective against that year’s strain. Regardless that was as sick as I’ve ever been. Only time in my life I ever collapsed.

Looking at the CDC data there was about 31k deaths in the US in 2016-17. It did jump to around 61k in 2018-19 in a year where the vaccine was not as effective. I can’t find any year in the last decade where there were 90k deaths in a year.

Yes, they were outside. There is a dispute between the health department and the Phillipin President over wearing shields outside. That information is in the articles I read. The ones you apparently did not. So the Secretary representing our country apparently went with the advice of the consulate and wore face protection. Trying to avoid causing a conflict with an ally in the region. But that’s wrong of course.

I posted an article from June of 2021 with the President of the Philippines saying shields will still be mandatory. The US consulate has it in their materials. A number of press agencies have pointed this out. But they’re all wrong and you’re right. Sure.

No he’s not. Apparently the requirements for the shields are indoors. So are you now saying you would have been fine if the Secretary wore a mask and not a shield? For those saying he projected fear, that’s just ridiculous.

Another potential example of blindly posting things with no understanding of context. First , this is what I posted in response to the picture of Secretary Austin. As you can see, the word ignorant is not used anywhere. So you don’t know what you’re talking about there. Second, there are a number of sources including the US Embassy in the Phillipines who have indicated the Health Department there requires masks and shields, and that there is confusion over it because Duarte is wanting policies changed. You can look that information up as easily as I did. I have no problem with our Secretary of Defense following recommendations from the embassy in the country he is visiting, which is apparently what happened here. Then what was? This started with BMan yet again blindly posting something he gets from some far right website without understanding. The Secretary apparently followed policies of the host country.

I looked up articles on Philippine regulations which indicated a requirement. Try again. I read it as our SecDef recognizing the Phillipine government is very sensitive to Covid regulations.

I looked at the American Association of Pediatrics website; they have a document on state rates of infection which I tried to copy here but it wouldn’t load from my phone for some reason. The data as I read it indicates higher infection rates in children over the past month or two. Whether that is going to translate to higher morbidity and mortality rates we’ll have to see. Let’s hope not.

My reading says the Phillipines requires face coverings. I would rather the representatives of our government respect the rules of the country they visit vs. not, even if it seems like overkill. I think the Phillipines should not require such extremes for vaccinated people.

I believe the American Academy of Pediatrics supports my contention. I also have heard physicians interviewed who indicate they have a higher number of younger people being hospitalized. You are correct that it is a higher percentage. The data as I understand it is that the delta variant is more infectious, and given that children under 12 are not able to be vaccinated yet the math would indicate the percentage of children infected rises, as you suggest. I would disagree with that not meaning the whole number would change. What we can all hope is that, while the delta variant seems to be more infectious, it may not have as serious effects on infected individuals. We’ll have to see how that shakes out.
