Agreed. It’s a long off-season. Just got the heck of it I googled for articles comparing combine results and on field performance in the NFL, and the results generally show none to weak correlations for the things tested at the combine and success in the league.

Had the fastest gauntlet drill of anyone for the year of his combine and the previous year. So what does that mean in terms of on the field performance? And let’s do a little math. A guy that runs a 4.2 covers 9.5 yards/second. A guy that runs a 4.6 covers 8.7 yards/second. A difference of about 2.4 feet/second. What does this really mean in terms of on the field performance? Coleman was not drafted to be a speed merchant. He was drafted to give the team a big, physical presence at WR. What he can work on ins using strength and such to get off the line better. He can work on route running. And so on. All such things can be improved upon with practice and coaching. So you see how much he develops his second year. The assumption he can’t improve is simplistic at best. I would remind folks here that after his rookie year there was a QB who was said to be inaccurate, and that he could never improve upon that and thus his future was limited. His name is Josh Allen. All the guys on that list are bums. Right?

We just spent a week with a thread beeyatching about Kincaid. Looks like this week it will be Coleman. Then I guess it’ll switch back to Kincaid. This is really simple with respect to Coleman. He was playing fairly well for a rookie before his injury, and given the nature of the offense and his role in it. Then he got hurt, and didn’t come back from that well. Beane pointed out that he needs to step it up, and not one person here has a clue how he responds to that. So you can either assume a glass empty position or glass half full. I take the latter as the kid is young, and that it is quite reasonable to think a young player improves with experience. As for comparisons to other rookies, I don’t place much emphasis on it, because you can play that game with any players at any position for any team. Teams deficient at corner wish they had taken Benford. We can say we should have taken McConkey but he fills a different role than Coleman does, and the Bills wanted a bigger guy. So we’ll see. I think Coleman steps up but if not it doesn’t mean Beane is terrible or whatever. It means a young player didn’t work out, and you move on. Moore is the more explosive guy, Palmer ranks high in separation ability. To me this addressed your concerns.

Think you nailed it. Young players need to show improvement year to year. Coleman is no exception. I just don’t understand the idea that he can’t improve.

My younger daughter has never been to a game at Rich, and we want to get to one this year. Is the best bet to wait for now and let things settle out before buying?

Coleman needs to improve, as most rookies do going into their second year. Beane has said this especially with respect to his play after coming back from injury. Why assume he won’t?

Third and long to whom? Yes? WRs? Who? The fact remains you demand objective data from anyone who challenges your arguments but then cast your subjective opinions when you feel fit. Just seems hypocritical. We’ll all know soon enough how the offense looks. Given the success the offense had last year I think we’ll be just fine. And if that means I have rose colored glasses on fine by me. All the more reason to go heavy on defense in the draft.

The chatter this off-season has been very interesting. If I can summarize: 1. Threads about our poor WRs put forth by folks, ignoring all other receiving options including RBs and TEs, until it is convenient to all of a sudden include TEs and RBs with WRs when it is convenient 2. Demanding objective data from those with whom you disagree on a topic, while offering up subjective opinions in other cases about players from other teams, and feeling insulted when asked to meet the same standard for one’s subjective assessments. 3. Bemoaning the lack of separation and speed in the WR corps, but when players are added to address each (Palmer, Moore) dismiss the efforts as insignificant. 4. Ignoring injuries that may have affected players (Kincaid, Coleman) 5. Claiming guys are busts (Example: Coleman, Bishop) without accounting for the fact that there can actually be improvement in young players as they gain experience in the league 6. Assuming that our offense cannot be as good as last year (or that the defense cannot improve) while indicating how other teams’ offenses and defenses will undoubtedly be improved All very amusing. Training camp can’t come soon enough.

Nope. You claim there are mediocre TEs that have their way and show absolutely no supporting data, but demand such when someone has a differing view of Kincaid than yours. Can’t have it both ways.

Above you said mediocre TEs do well against the Bills. A subjective opinion. But when it comes to Kincaid and someone offers a subjective opinion you demand data. Can you explain why?

Every year teams that are supposed to be good aren’t and vice versa.

Here’s the thing. They gave Josh two new weapons in Palmer and Moore. You not liking their choices is not the same as the team not giving him any new weapons.

If I knew how to put you on ignore I would. My point is Brady’s offense is perhaps more suited to Palmer because we spread the ball around more. Period. Because you don’t like a point doesn’t mean there isn’t one. My last ever response to you. Wallow in your negativity.

I hope you are satisfied at this point. Going into this off-season the concern voiced by many is the lack of separation and a guy that can stretch the field. Palmer ranks high in separation ability and Moore gives the speed guy (I’d also suggest a healthy Samuel can get down the field). It seems clear to me that Brady believes in his everybody eats philosophy. As of today you have 5 WRs, 2TEs and 3 RBs that can all get out there and get the ball from Josh. You have a strong O line and a complementary running game. And based on last year this offensive philosophy works pretty well.
