    You're right that's an outlier but that's what we are capable of as an NFL offense. Kelvin Benjamin was dominant at FSU. He hasn't gotten worse, he just plays against NFL talent now. You're going to send him out against a college defense that has no NFL conditioning. Chris Ivory is going to run at them over and over and over. You don't think they'll be dead tired by the end of the first drive?

    We put up 27 on the Vikings. I mean if you're saying we would stop trying after a half, sure. Maybe that's what the Vegas oddsmaker was thinking when he set that line. I was always assuming the question was how much could we win by, and the correct answer is at least 50. We made Kirk Cousins fumble twice. The first person Jerry Hughes knocks down would drop the ball and exit the game.

    Former NFL guard Geoff Schwartz says Bills would cover the spread by halftime:

     

     

    “This is No. 1 question I asked, and I give the same answer every time. In college I played against two defensive ends who played in the NFL. And some of them didn’t even play long in the NFL. The rest of the schedule was filled with good, average, or below-average college players. You could play less than 100% and still win those battles. But when you’re in the NFL, everyone is a pro. You don’t give 100% for a rep, or use good technique, you’re getting beat. So the idea that any college team could beat the worst pro team is asinine.”



     

    “The Bills might cover the 28.5 by halftime. My words can’t do justice to the difference in speed, violence and physicality between the levels of football. Think about two people pedaling their bikes into each other, compared to two semi trucks barreling into each other at 55 mph. So the Bills would have the advantage in the trenches and tackling. They would have the advantage in speed and size. And yes, they would cover the spread.”

    No in hindsight they didn't need to. But of course we didn't know that last year. This regime decided right away they'd be going all out for a QB in 2019 and every move they made was in service of that plan. All their dead cap is off the books next year. This is the last year where they have fair excuses for losing. And sure if they had made every move exactly right we would be in a better spot right now. But I don't blame them for passing on a QB last year or casting away players to gather draft picks. I blame them for the receiver situation and that's about it. A lot of their moves have been great. I'm okay with a couple stinkers and a bad rebuilding year. Next year they'll have to prove their plan is working.

    So who do you fire for passing on Mahomes and Watson? The defensive minded head coach who was here for all of 3 months before that draft? Or the GM that hadn't been hired yet? There was zero chance we were drafting a QB high last year. Call it bad timing. Blame Pegula if you want for not having a more stable situation in place. But McDermott and Beane can't be held accountable for that.

    I'm talking about the trades of Sammy and Darby which were done to get the best draft picks possible out of players they didn't see as having a long term future in Buffalo. They have been gearing up to get a QB since last offseason. Unlike other regimes they didn't want to sit on their hands and wait to see what happened. They identified a strong QB class and did what they could to put themselves in position to draft one early. And now they have Allen and we're all waiting to find out if they're right about him.
