But John, looking at Allen’s career as whole, in college or the pros, he has struggled being accurate

In the short game you're right. I don't think he will ever be a 68% completion passer on a consistent basis for that reason. But when he's throwing downfield it looks to me like he can be as accurate as anyone in the league. That's what you're going to get with him. Instead of throwing 2 perfect strikes for 10 yards, he'll throw one perfect strike for 20 yards and then miss his next pass. Same result, just a different process. That's simplifying things and either way he has a long way to go but the potential is there.

  2. The bomb to Foster was one of the most impressive plays I've ever seen on a physical level. The other throw to Foster was more impressive on a mental level and those are the throws he'll need to make consistently to move the chains. So I get what you're saying but the bomb was still the best throw of the game. Good chance it will end up being one of the best throws of his career when all is said and done.

  3. He is now good enough to catch passes that hit him in the hands when he has at least a yard of separation, which is an upgrade from last year. He runs good routes and he is a capable blocker. He still isn't good enough to be a true #2. He doesn't have great speed or separation, or the ability to win contested catches. Wouldn't be a bad 2nd round pick except we traded up for him and that clearly wasn't worth it.

This author helps us check our QB enthusiasm from an outsider's (also known as a d@#che's) perspective. I mean, Canadians, amiright?!

Just joking about the Northern Neighbors dig. I was married to a Canadian once.

Kryk, in the article, being kind: "The most impressive positive: Allen had a scintillating first-half pass completion, the best of his young career. He hung in there in a fast-collapsing pocket and, just before getting clobbered, launched a rocket to undrafted rookie Robert Foster, streaking deep behind Jags safety Barry Church. Foster caught it in stride and scored on a 75-yard play. Allen’s cannon arm is for real.

Those were the exceptions." You can see the segue here to being...less...kind.

The opening of that article is terribly written. Something tells me he wrote that headline before the game.

I never wanted Darnold. He was bad under pressure at USC against bad Pac12 defenses. He will probably be a capable QB but I dont think he will be a star. He doesn't have the arm of Stafford nor the accuracy of Wilson or Brady. Maybe he is a Rivers type but probably more like Dalton.

Ryan Tannehill with more turnovers. You know who looks like Dalton right now is Josh Rosen.

Really good player. I have seen most every game of his. He would be a nice #1 pick and WR. He's got good game speed for a huge guy.

Yep I was all about Marquise Brown but Foster looks to be developing nicely, so the biggest thing this team needs is a tough catcher with length who can win jump balls. No question Harry can be that guy.

    Here's a good draft profile:

He would be better on KC, but he certainly wouldn't be Mahomes

Well right now probably not, but a year from now? It's possible. You have to remember Pat Mahomes himself wasn't Pat Mahomes last year. He played the final game of the season against a Broncos team that didn't care, and completed 22 of 35 passes for 284 yards 0 TDs and 1 INT. His passer rating was only 76.4 in that game. After a full offseason of development he's blowing up the score sheet. My point is it's too early to ask if Allen could do what Mahomes is doing, of course it is unlikely but so is what Mahomes has done.

Well that’s not true, even though I totally agree with you that Allen shows way more than we have seen from EJ.  People forget EJ showed some promising things and even a couple

    impressive wins as a rookie.

But again, I fully agree that Allen has tons more potential than EJ ever had and to me is showing it on the field better than EJ showed overall his rookie year.  But to say EJ didn’t make one throw that was a throw a gear QB would make is an exaggeration.  He had some bright spots his rookie year, unfortunately most the bright spots ONLY happened in his rookie year.

He showed some bright spots. For a couple games in his rookie year he showed promise of a competent QB. But he never made one great throw that separated him from other QBs, that's what I mean. He had games where he strung some completions together but nothing eye popping. IMO the only rookie QBs that have done that so far this year are Mayfield and Allen. Darnold and Rosen are in the same boat as EJ was, they've made competent plays at times but nothing that has separated them.

Isn’t Josh Allen essentially Lamar Jackson?

This is honestly lazy thinking. Not all mobile QBs are the same. Cam Newton, Russell Wilson, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson are all mobile QBs, but they are very different passers. Allen can do things as a passer that Lamar can't, and vice versa for Lamar's running.

One Jags team went to the AFC championship game and the other is 3-8.  They are entirely different teams.  But that is wildly beside the point.

They are definitely not entirely different teams. They are comprised of pretty much the exact same players on defense. The big difference is they lost two starting receivers and Bortles somehow is playing even worse than last year. But that has nothing to do with Allen's performance against a defense that has been top 5 this year, in his first game back from injury, with a bunch of no-name receivers and a poor offensive line. It was impressive any way you slice it. Elite, no, but he showed signs that he could be a great QB in the future.

It was a very emotional game with the penalties and fight; two things that you know McDermott doesn't stand for.  It's a tough spot to be in as a coach because the fight brought the team together and sparked the victory.  My hope is, he's proud of them for the win, praises the effort, but everyone knows they need to run some laps and we need to find a way to be better next week.  We aren't that team, but ***** just happened this week.  As a parent, you want your kids to take the high road, but sometimes you have to punch the bully in the mouth.

Excellent breakdown as usual. This was my favorite game of the season bar none. I was happy to see us shut Ramsey up. No matter how good you are as a player you should never be giving your opponent free bulletin board material. As we saw in this game that kind of thing matters.

Jacksonville looked like a team that could contend for a Super Bowl if they had even average QB play. If they had average QB play today we might have been blown out of the water. But I'll take it. I just want to see Allen develop this season and considering how he played I wasn't going to be disappointed regardless of the final score. Admittedly after the fight I was very invested in seeing us win and I'n happy we pulled it out.

With regards to the part I quoted, McDermott said in his post-game presser he will not discipline Shaq Lawson for the fight because he wants his players to defend themselves. I think the whole choir boy narrative is overblown. McDermott doesn't want perfect human beings, he just wants players that are committed to the team. He walked away from the fight with blood on his clothes. I don't think he's upset with anyone on the team about how that played out.

Week in and week out I see big name AND no name wr’s make contested catches for their qb’s. “Area code” catches rewarding their qb for trusting them.  It consistently happens every week all around the nfl..... and then there’s buffalo.

    Very frustrating

Yeah the classic Randy Moss hug a CB while making the catch has become a regular staple of NFL offenses. It isn't even that big a deal anymore. Robert Foster, amazingly, has had the best catches of the year so far. Everyone else needs the ball to hit them right in the hands with at least a full yard of separation or else there is no chance they'll catch the ball. IMO it's the biggest thing this offense is lacking on a regular basis, even more so than good blocking.
