  1. If you get over a 9.0 RAS score while actually running all of the drills, you're an elite athlete IMO.
  2. He is an elite athlete. But he looks clumsy on the field because he isn't a natural football player. Never quite figured out NFL caliber leverage or spacing, etc. I would bet a lot of those focus drops come down to him thinking too much on the field. The NFL is littered with elite athletes that are reduced to being just role players because they lack the intangibles, nothing unusual about that archetype. Over the last year or two of his time with the Bills I'd like to keep his role simple. Basic blocking assignments, quick designed throws in the red zone, check down routes, that sort of thing. Let him use his natural athleticism without thinking too much and you have yourself a nice, albeit overpaid, complementary player.
  3. Did I? There was a thread last week with a poll about which available vet WR would be the best signing and MVS was my choice in that poll. Then again I'm sure two months ago I felt very different. When you've struck out at the bar for four hours everybody sudddenly looks hotter.
  4. What sucks if that unless Beane makes another move, "eventually" isn't soon enough. The way we've built this roster, Coleman and Hollins are the only two guys you look at as true outside WRs (and not everybody agrees that Coleman is one). So he's going to be forced into a big role before he has a chance to refine his skillset. As someone that loved the prospect before the Bills took him and had him as my #1 Bills target after the top three, even I know he needs time to refine his skillset. I love who he has the potential to become, not who he is on day one. The expectations are going to be too high because the fanbase is looking at him as Diggs' replacement and that's really just not fair to him.
  5. Alright man. I think you lost the plot of what "field stretching WR" means. I'm aware that literally any WR can run vertical routes. That doesn't mean that say Cole Beasley is a field stretcher. Anyways... Hopefully MVS if nothing else can take on the Gabe Davis decoy "draw coverage downfield" role and still come away with like 400-500 yards. For close to the vet minimum (presumably) this would be a good signing.
  6. Right, like I said the Bills don't have a field stretching WR on the roster.
  7. Come to think of it maybe this entire offseason is just Beane trolling the jersey makers. Marquez Valdes-Scantling Sedrick Van Pran-Granger Re'Mahn Walter Zhamar Jamar Davis
  8. I'd be okay with this. We don't have a field stretching WR on the roster. He gives us a baseline for that role, albeit a low baseline.
  9. Waiting until the trade deadline certainly makes sense. Perhaps the plan is to see if Claypool or Hamler can turn their careers around and negate the need for a trade. Of course that's an unlikely outcome but the plan makes sense if we absolutely have to wait until further into the season to be able to afford a new WR. Might as well take a flyer while still knowing in the back of our mind that the season doesn't hinge on one of those flyers working out. I just find it really unlikely Plan A is Mack Hollins as the #2 outside WR, or Coleman as the presumed #1 for that matter, for the entire season. Hollins was seen as a Trent Sherfield caliber signing. Coleman is a rookie and the team historically never goes into a season with the rookie penciled in as the surefire starter. The lack of investment at the position makes me more confident an investment is coming, if not right away then at some point in the season.
  10. It's possible. I think the new regime in Tennessee will want to evaluate Levis though before holding a fire sale. The reason I think Metcalf makes sense is Seattle already knows they need a new QB in 2025. This is just a transition year for them. They need to do what the Bills did in 2017 and set themselves up as well as possible to get a QB next year.
  11. Right now we have probably just enough cap space to cover our draft picks. That still leaves us with $10.2M after June 1. I don't remember exactly how much Beane has typically entered the season with but I believe it's usually around $2M to $3M.
  12. What do you think the plan is for Tre's $10.2M? That is what makes me think a trade is coming.
  13. It feels like a trade HAS to be coming. We have $10.2M more in cap space coming up after June 1. I know Beane likes to have a small cushion for in-season moves but he is not going to leave that much available cap space. And Beane has been seemingly deliberate with how blatantly he's ignored the #2 outside WR. If I've said it once I've said it 100 times - Mack Hollins will not be our #2 outside WR. I just don't believe Beane would let that happen. So reading the tea leaves I believe a plan is already in place and will come to fruition at the right time. Of the available names, Metcalf makes the most sense for someone we could trade for and have the trading team retain some of the cap hit so we could get him on the roster and then immediately extend him. Hopkins probably won't be available until the trade deadline. Aiyuk I believe we would not be able to afford to even place him on the roster to then extend him because his 5th year option is fully guaranteed.
  14. @CJ_Caggiano on Twitter. He hasn't posted any leaks yet, usually the day of he will post what he hears.
  15. Not sure if this exactly counts because he's a rookie but I'll go with Javon Solomon as a sleeper that could end up with a lot more production than anyone expects. Like Bernard his path to seeing a lot of playing time is pretty easy to envision. His skill set meshes well with Rousseau on the other side. I could see him kind of coming out of nowhere and ending up with like 8 sacks on the season.
  16. I'd want to see one more source on this but those details are insane if true.
  17. I love the way he effortlessly plucks the ball out of the air. A big focus of our past two offseasons has been adding pass catchers that, well, catch passes.
  18. Legal troubles aside, the league's personal conduct policy doesn't care how the he said/she said narrative turns out. He's at a club in the wee hours of Monday morning getting into an altercation that turns into a police report, just weeks after causing a multi-car accident while drag racing. Honestly wouldn't be totally surprised if the league makes an example out of him and slaps him with like a 10 game suspension. Maybe more. There have been too many recent occurrences of NFL players involved in high speed incidents and this latest legal problem of his is the cherry on top.
  19. The coaching is what changed the most since then IMO. No reason they shouldn't have won the Super Bowl that year. They still had Tyreek Hill and the league hadn't caught up to the revolutionary offense spearheaded by a QB doing things no one had ever done before. They just needed their defense to not get dominated and they simply couldn't do it. Since then they have had their one cornerstone player in Chris Jones. Everyone else has been a rotating cast of different characters. The one constant from then to now is Steve Spagnuolo. Pretty clearly the best defensive coach in the league IMO and has a knack for taking his unit to another level in the playoffs. Honestly he might have been more responsible for their Super Bowl win last year than Andy Reid was.
  20. Yeah they fired their DC Bob Sutton after a string of embarrassing defensive losses that year culminating in that AFCCG loss. Since Spagnuolo took over they have had at the very least an above average defense which always raises its level in the playoffs, and of course was elite this past season. That's my point though. They changed the defensive coach and saw an immediate turnaround. Elite coaching staffs make the GM look smarter by default. It's the newest iteration of the dynasty Patriots, unfortunately.
  21. I've never once watched a Chiefs game and felt like Karlaftis popped off the screen. Solid player but him getting double digit sacks is more a function of coaching IMO (and being next to the best DT in the league doesn't hurt). Similarly I don't expect L'Jarius Sneed to continue being an all-pro caliber CB in Tennessee. It's hard for me to know for sure if Veach is just inherently better at drafting defensive talent than Beane, or if their defensive coaching just does a much better job getting the most out of that talent.
  22. Nick Korte at OTC figured out why we and the 49ers lost out on a 3rd round comp pick: Kind of a confusing article but basically the NFL considered restructured contracts to be new contracts for the purposes of calculating comp picks. Nick points out that this doesn't really make any sense but that's what happened. He also used this additional info to update the projected comp pick formula for next year and there are no changes. So the current projection is still that we will get a 4th and a 5th round comp pick next year.
  23. I'm not giving up on Elam yet. He has had game changing interceptions in three games despite very limited playing time - one against the Chiefs in the regular season, and two in the playoffs against the Steelers and Dolphins. So he arguably has more game changing plays in the playoffs than any other defensive player on the roster, which is kind of sad, but in any case I don't want to give up on that kind of talent. I suspect with John Butler moving on and no major CB investments that the coaching staff is planning to give him a real shot at winning a starting job. At worst he is likely to be our #3 IMO.
