  1. I just moved from that area - my kids were born in the hospital in Grass Valley. Named so because it was one of the first green, "Grassy Valleys" settlers saw after they cleared the Sierra Nevada Mts through Donner Pass. No shortage of the other type of grass there, too. Nevada City sits side by side with Grass Valley. They were boom towns in the gold rush, lots of neat things to see and do there. Two very new age, progressive, touristy, artsy type of towns (NC more so than GV) in the middle of fairly conservative surroundings (agricultural/ranching).
  2. All good advice. It's not that hard, just takes a little practice to get good (and fast), which you don't have to be - plaster covers a lot of errors. Measure twice, cut once. A metal T-square, box cutter (and blades, sheetrock dulls them fast), pencil, chalk line (angles), hammer and nails is about all you need to get started. But 6000 sq ft may be more than you want to try your first time out. My brother and I would hang a 2000-3000 sq ft house over 3-4 days; it would take you quite a while longer. Here's how to cut the length of a 4x8 sheet cleanly: All the sheets should be staged on their side leaning against a wall (hopefully, the last one you plan on covering.) With the board on it's side, hold the top of the T-square on the top of the board with the right side of the verticle at your measurement. Use your toe to keep the bottom of the T in place, and use your knee to keep the middle against the board. There's a notch on the right side of the T-square - that's so you can take the knife and cut across the top of the board, then run the knife along the side down past your knee. Then turn the knife and start at the bottom of the T-square and cut up. Move the T-square out of the way. Lean the board out away from the others so you can grab the board with both hands, left one on the cut, right one far enought to the right to snap the board forward at the cut so that it breaks to a 90 degree angle - which will hold it up when you set it down. Keep a hand on top of the board. Step around back, and run the knife top down and bottom up on the backside of the cut to get all the way through. Snap the board back toward the stack of boards. Should be a clean cut and a clean break every time. You can't do that on small cuts, less than a couple inches, or you'll break the cut uneven. Lotta bad memories of doing this starting at 11 years old through Buffalo winters. Chalk dust so heavy you tasted it, and fingers that would get too numb to grab more nails out of the pouch (unfinished houses having no heat.) Which reminds me, 6000 sq ft, the hell with hammer and nails, get a good drywall screw gun, that holds the screw steady. A cheap one will do - your shoulder/elbow will thank you later.
  3. Take a visit to the Quatloos! website for a description of tax scams and some of the more successful salesmen of such.
  4. I don't know, but if I could attend the next tailgate I'd bring a folding table and stack it with pie tins filled with whip cream. Roll tape...
  5. Worth bumping back up. Good job of schedule review. No reason to be overly optimistic, but I don't give up while it's still possible. Goes against my nature.
  6. BOOO! BOOOOOOOO! Never give in. Never, never, never, never! Even if you're down 32 points! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! ... Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer...
  7. I don't know about typical of anyone - but I know I haven't seen another Bills CB or Safety make those plays. The second effort on the two I saw were awesome (the first of the three IIRC was a speed rush around end). Too many times I've watched blitzes get stuffed, and the D suffer the consequences. To get through when he did were great plays. Can't say enough about his game.
  8. None of the above. JP should start when the coaches think he give the team a better chance to win than Drew. If/when we're eliminated from the playoffs, whenever they feel like it.
  9. Unlikely, yeah. But maybe not a TON of help. Mickey listed the schedules for the competition here, and it's not impossible. Keep hope alive!
  10. I get it. I mean, I'm not happy with the offense unless they score every time they get the ball. I'm not happy with the defense unless they prevent a score every time they're on the field. Same goes for special teams. I want to see this team win every home game, and at least split their away games - standard playoff team goal stuff. I don't think you could ask more of the defense or special teams. The offense did not do as well as they should have, but the rest of the team played so well (here you go, here's the ball on the 5 yard line, and a punt return for a touchdown), that it wasn't close - which was great! On the other hand, receivers really helped Drew out - they worked to catch a couple passes that could've been picked/knocked down, and knocked down a couple more that could've been picked (especially one to Moulds - prob his most important play of the game). But that's part of their job description, too - isn't it? Drew really didn't look better to me today. I thought two of the TD passes were very well thrown, but one was a prayer that Campbell had to work for. He didn't overthrow/bounce his dump off passes, which has been driving me crazy, uh, forever. So, I thought his play was really about the same, and his receivers' play was a lot better. No blinders on. Happy with a win. Understand and appreciate your criticisms on the offense. Have at it.
  11. I can still hear Chris Berman's voice - "Oh, those Bills special teams" - man, that used to hurt. I was to the point where I would cringe when it was time for any special teams play, I had so little faith in them. It's fun to watch them again. Keep it up, boys!
  12. I can't recall if I've ever seen someone that big move that fast. I bet Sam could play any position on either side of the line.
  13. You gotta give credit where credit is due. They're getting a lot of grief about their decisions about one player, but their TEAM just stomped the living hell out of the Rams. Every unit contributed to this win. Now they need to get this show working on the road.
  14. I can't tell. He looks slow to me when he's running, even when he's outrunning the defense. Then I see Travis run, and I realize how much faster Willis is. Then Willis runs, and he looks slow, even though he's outrunning someone on defense. I need a radar gun.
  15. According to one article I read, the stadium announcer reported "Detroit Pistons fan on the field" when that happened.
  16. Lawyer Milloy had three sacks on blitzes. One was timed pretty well, but he had to race like hell around the tackle to reach the QB; one where the (guard?) looked like he met him well at the line, but Milloy spins towards the middle then proceeds upfield to make the sack (!), and another where he reaches through TWO players who got a piece of him to grab the QB and pull him down. What a player. I've seen a lot of blitzers who would've got lost in the second and third attempts - they were really nice plays. The Terrence McGee sack looked like he had short zone coverage on his side of the field. Bulger was flushed out of the pocket, and began to run to that side of the field; McGee came up to make the stop for -1 yards. I see from the stats the other DB sack was Greer. Can't remember that one.
  17. You appear assured of your own intellectual superiority (apparently recently aquired when you moved from GA to NY), yet you seem to be lacking in the ability to communicate your brilliance into a logical argument.
  18. Impressive argument. Obnoxious, KzooMike, unneccessarily vulgar. Can't understand why you can't get everyone to agree with you.
  19. The red-blue gulf most certainly does exist. However, the span of the color spectrum in between, which makes up a third or more of the country, is varying shades of purple.
  20. I saw a series of interviews with Drew Brees and Marty Schottenheimer (sp?) about their success this year. Marty mentioned Marcellus Wiley as one of the players that they let go, and are more successful playing someone with less talent at the postion.
  21. Ok, so the Democrats ran everything for a couple generations - and now they're the minority party in every way. But they didn't lose, so don't change anything - just keep calling everyone on the other side stooopid - that'll win 'em over.
  22. Grow a pair? I need a wheelbarrow to carry around the ones I got now! Why should (Democrats) care what I think? Because they want my vote. Calling (Republican) voters every name in the book is not a particularly useful way of winning them over. Getting drunk in a parking lot is one of the better ideas I've heard today.
  23. Who am I, like name and address?? Not a chance. I just think when you get beat at something, then rant about how stupid your opponent is, then get beat again, and continue to rant about how stupid your opponent is, it doesn't reflect on you very well. Anyway, my last couple posts were getting personal. I apologize. (Wouldn't want anyone challenging me to a spearing contest in the parking lot or anything.)
